  • how precious! I just love the babies.

  • I've had my cockatiel since he was a baby, when he was younger his father would pluck out the feathers from his crown does your male cockatiel do that too? Or was it just him?

  • RYAN BRUAN HAHA... cute little bird

  • "His yur walkin like a druken sailor"

    XDDDD!!!! LOL

  • I have a question... How old do Cockatiels have to be if you want to touch them? Because if you touch them when they're too young, I think the mother might think, ah, a smell that's not mine, and she might do something bad to the baby cockatiel.

  • @AdorableOni I think it depends on your relationship with the cockatiel parents. The nest box needs to be cleaned out so the babies don't get sick. The parents weren't totally happy about my moving the babies out and holding them at first until they realized what I was doing to help them. After the second or third cleaning, they didn't mind much at all. In fact, they would complain to me if I didn't come over to clean the box out soon enough in the morning and the evening.

  • @AdorableOni To be more specific, I started holding the second clutch of babies within 3 days of their hatching.

  • @arcanina3 Ok, thanks, and Hiss is very cute!!!

  • @AdorableOni That's actually a myth that birds reject their young if they smell human on them. A baby bird associates its mother by it being the first living thing it see's. As for the smell, birds in general actually have a very poor sense of smell. They depend on their eyes over smell

  • @AdorableOni

I have an aviary where all the cockatiels are wild & the mother has never left any of them even when they were really small & I handled them to change their paper & coo over them some.

I did find something really sweet about baby ‘hook bills’ They love to have their beak rubbed! They will be hissing & swaying & when you begin to rub their beak they will calm down & soon go to sleep.

  • @AdorableOni I work at a bird rehabilitation facility. And that is a myth, the only birds that can actually smell are vulture. so if you ever see a bird that has fallen out of the nest you are supposed to put it back. The whole "mothers will smell you" is not true.

  • @AdorableOni A lot of animals do that.

  • i have some tiels but they dont have any feathers yet just that yellow fuzz and its 14 days old...do you know why?

  • From what I remember it was about a month and a half for all the main feathers to grow in and the tail feathers to reach decent length. It's been a long time since I watched this little one grow up.

  • How long did it take for it to get all of its' feathers?

  • uwau-I wish my cockatiels would reproduce so I wouldn't have to buy eggs for breakfast lol
