Hi Scott, I'm the jabbering speed-freak you met in the pub last night.
Been checking-out all your YouTube vids this morning and find them all uniquely impressive. It's as if, just for the few minutes each film lasts, one is drawn into a magical little parallel universe. The perfect synergistic accompaniment to Pram's sublime otherworldly soundscapes.
P.S. thanks for sharing the chips and curry sauce.
was good to meet you - thanks for the rather splendid comments! you may well end up being quoted on something....heh heh.....
will keep you posted on pram activities - in the meantime, remind me about the title of the book you contributed to, and look out for us at supersonic festival this year - we're planning a hypnogogic-state inducing sound and vision
The book was "Ketamine: Dreams and Realities" by Dr Karl Jansen.
Also, the character Davy Humpp (an allusion to the nitrous oxide researcher Sir Humphry Davy) in Iain Sinclair's novel "Landor's Tower" is based on yours truly, and I also get a brief mention in Sadie Plant's book "Writing on Drugs."
Anyway, looking forward to seeing Pram's performance at this year's Supersonic festival (always one of the musical highlights of my year) - sounds like it's going to be something really special.
Although I usually try to mix film and video, this was shot entirely with a Panasonic DVX-100 mini dv camera, using the 24fps progressive scan mode. With some clever colour-timing/grading, you can get quite a filmy look!
As for "originality", ummm.....I'm not sure we can be accused of that with this particular video ;)
(Other viewers have spotted the references to a number of other surrealistic film+television classics....)
Your movies are so captivating! The style art and themes are way cool. I'm very happy I stumbled over the ELECTRIC SEANCE movie. My soul would be crushed if you stopped making these keep it up!!!
The main reference of course would be the Avengers episode "The House That Jack Built" in which Mrs Peel gets trapped in a mechanical house by a former employee of hers who wants revenge.
By coincidence I watched that episode (again) last night and today I chance upon this..
I know they are a huge fan of the film "Carnival Of Souls" - two songs named after it, plus, the artwork for their album "Dark Island" paying homage to it: the cover like a still from the famous ballroom scene towards the end of the movie, and the inner photos of the Salt Air-like pavilion. Are there any plans for you and the band to do a video-homage to "Carnival Of Souls"? That would be incredible!
Thanks for your nice comments, pongwookie! Yeah, I think Carnival of Souls was sort-of the starting point for our collaboration back in 2003 when I did the Dark Island artwork, and we used a section of the film for multi-screen live visuals. A video based on it would be fantastic, we have plenty of run-down seaside locations in the UK... Thanks for commenting, and for Splatter Theatre!
I like how this version has got a space at the begining...

She reminds of Belphegor, the phantom of the Louvre, from the 1965 French tv series (performed by Juliette Gréco).

I was thinking more like "The Avengers" with Steed and Emma Peele.
Very nive, somewhat British with Asian influence, 60's pop and psychedelia, spy movie-ish, hallucinating starngeness! Super cool!
Peace,
