Great video , I am looking to buy some RAM (Corsair 16 GB Vengeance Blue Low Profile 1600mhz PC3-12800 240-pin Dual Channel DDR3 Memory Kit 16 Dual Channel Kit). Will this be compatible with my machine (Macbook pro 2011 13'') ? Thanks in advance :]
@Minecraft2tutorials Sadly you can get that much ram on ur macbook pro, I just found this out :( the max is 8 GB!!!! This is how you find out, Click the apple logo on ur mac then go to about this mac, then go to "More Info" then click were it says memory then go to " memory Upgrade Instructions" the scroll down to "Applicable models" and the 2 macbook pro models will show you the memory specs. I hope you didn't buy ur memory already, Good luck!
I'm not sure about the 13" MacBook Pro, but the screws closest to the lid in the 15" and 17" MacBook Pro are anger... its important to remove them with the screw driver and pressure IN LINE with the angle (not 90 degrees to the back cover) or there is a chance of stripping the screws.
will this let me play Starcraft 2 on my macbook pro (i have the same one he has but refurbished). I think it started out 4 GB but starcraft needs 6.99 GB. Will this let me play it... if not does anyone know any other ways that could let me play starcraft 2 on the computer.
Very good instruction. Although I would like another angle so I can see you pushing the ram down... your hand was in the way. Apart from that sweet. Thanks.
Thanks for this - I needed a demonstration. Yes, I got ram from Crucial too. Very quickly delivered to Australia and about $90 for 8 gb. Can't wait to upgrade from 2gb to 8. And I'm running Windows 7 Ultimate 64bit.
You need to study up more on anti-static precautions. You were NOT sufficiently protected during this video. Every movement your body makes can charge you up again -- and the table and computer itself can change in charge over time, too. You need to take precautions to ensure that your body is always at the SAME charge as both the RAM and the computer, at all times. Otherwise, nice video. It helps to see the cover removal process before attempting it the first time. :D
@stuartz1985 It's recommended, but you can just touch a metal item such as a PC tower chassis. Been doing it that way for at least 8 years. You don't really need a strap.
I did this to mine, but with two 8gb ram units. It's runs as smooth as ever. I can play large detailed and large memrory(offcourse with a 400gb hardrive!) games that use alot of ram. I used to have 4gb but switched it because my Mac version of some games and programs did not work.
Just asking is it necessary to have 8gb RAM or does everything run smoothly enough with 4? Cause i am considering buying a macbook pro 13 inch with 4gb of ram. anyone should answear this and id like a little experience before i go around buying a big 8g ram pack and it just uses about 30% of that while about 30 - 50 % is totally unused. thankyou
@stuartz1985 if you read the instrucction manul you get with the mac.. the clearly say that it is safe to change ram.. they even putted a "how to change ra" section in the book
my mac has two memories of 2gb, a total of 4gb of ram. Can i replace one of those two with a 4gb so it will add up to 6gb of ram? or do both memories have to be the same?
hey man i been looking for this totorial for a while thank u so much .... i dont need to back up HD do i or will every thing be ok wen inserted new ram???????
@RubricalEye That's incorrect! Replacing the RAM on your MacBook Pro does not void your warranty as long as you don't damage anything! It is considered a "user-replaceable" component and therefore Apple does allow you to replace it and still keep your warranty intact! Apple even gives you a how-to on their website under their support section!
No, it doesn't void the warranty apple just won't work on your computer until you replace the new RAM with the ones you took out. So remember if you send in your computer to remove ALL modifications.
@RubricalEye Nop because in the booklet of your computer it even tells you how to install it. Why would they tell you how to install it if it will void your warranty. And No it doesn't ask anyone at the apple store.
