  • did they die?

  • Chuck Norris has a shock wave like :23 when he takes a crap

  • The total system weighed 4.4 MILLION pounds on takeoff, routinely went almost to mach three straight up, fully into space after just a few minutes after liftoff. How any could NOT be impressed by the sheer power of it baffles me...

  • that shit just broke the sound barrier

  • At around 1:19 you can see the bottom of the External Tank (the aft dome) with a charred area that is growing outward.

  • why would you dislike this video? anyone???

  • wooooooww see the sonic booms at 24 sec omfg love this vid ty . god blees the shuttles

  • @ 0:17 awesome sound

  • if your 800ft away the shuttle the sound can kill you

  • @TheMtaTeam Chuck Norris stands on the pad

  • Awesome video

  • Wow

  • I miss it already ;)

  • @MichaelCox Yeah, it's left me a bit sad inside knowing that these are finished....

  • At 1:13 you'll see the shock waves coming off the orbiter as it goes supersonic. Perfect quality.

  • amizin' video

  • shocking...

  • Must be one of the best shuttle launches ive seen well done

  • any idea which mission this is?

  • Most beautiful footage of the shuttle I've seen. And that's counting IMAX.

  • Cool video!!

  • For ALL Mankind. :-)

  • beautiful shockwaves lookslike ripples of glass

  • Nice vid, the sound really adds to it.

  • Now that's America.

  • superb. one of the best videos i've seen

  • this is really the most incredible launch vid i'v ever seen!

  • The closeup shots around 1:00 are brilliant!

  • A technical challenge and a AmericanTtriumph that will echo in human history. regardless of it's obvious flaws-many challenges remain.

  • at 1:09 u can see the shock waves!! :D

  • 5 dislikes = angry russians who dont have space shuttles.

  • This is THE coolest STS launch video I´ve ever seen.

  • @windh I would have say the warmest one ... :p

  • man I'm so sadden to see on the iconic space shuttle's last voyage :/

It reminds me of the good old days when I played with my 4 shuttles :D

  • When you consider the Wright Brothers first flew in December 17, 1903 this is incredible. I wish I could see the next 500 yrs.

  • @Ionizap Were probally gonna have warp drives by then. I wish I could see it too.

  • @Ionizap imagine going back in time to 1903 and show this to the wright brothers!! it's like in you face!!

  • anyone know the source of this footage?

  • thumbs up if you computer cant handle 1080p HD Resolution

  • 5 haters.

  • GOD BLESS AMERICA

  • @coleKX250F07 No no no, God bless the human race.

  • Beautiful visualization of hypersonic shock waves after 1:10!

  • What happened? When i was ten the country was deeply interested in space flight and the scientific acheivments that were made. Now nobody gives a shit about anybody, and they are all rushing home to watch Dancing WIth the stars!!!! What happened to the spirit of exploration? Instead of watching a wedding on Friday I hope that all of you will be watching the next to last of the space shuttle launches. An event of importance and discovery.

  • @BIGTIMBERFILMS such a great comment, i wish people could realize the importance of space discovery and exploration and no sit there and watch tv and do fuck all, its like being stuck on one planet doing nothing, very annoying, i wish we were exploring the universe already...

  • Gravity just got his ass kicked!

  • This is some of the coolest footage I've ever seen.

  • 1:14 did you see that sonic waves? wow..

  • I saw this line. What a show

  • that sound on 0:17 is really awesome!!!

  • i love the way she takes that lil twist to the heavens

  • i love they way she takes that lil twist to the heavend

  • @SypherDupstep

Lol. I went from area 51 to this xD. And me and your aren't very different. Expect I'm 15 lol.

  • 12 MILLION horsepower

  • Can anyone tell me the number of this STS-mission?

  • I HOPE THIS VID STAYS ON THE TUBE. BEST LAUNCH

  • Pure Power!!! The most beautiful machine of the world!

  • wow, that is just awesome....what a BLAST!

  • This is up there with sex.

  • I bet the tree huggers are having kittens.

  • Having tried to film moving objects while zooming before, I think I might have been more impressed by the fact that you can actually see the engines separates, than the fact that they just launched a shuttle filled with people in it into space! Seriously what camera was this shot on??

  • @jcowle86 I'm not a photographer but I was also amazed by the camera work. Mostly I'm amazed that you're able to clearly see the shuttle. Considering it's a night launch, and the comparative brilliance of the main engines and in particular the solid rocket boosters, I find it amazing the shuttle can be tracked and filmed so clearly. I too am curious as to how that was done on a technical level.

  • play shine on you crazy diamond- pink floyd at the same time!!!!!

  • Whilst the coverage NASA gives on TV is absolutely first class, this unedited version is like looking at a modern masterpiece of human achievement.

The sound from SSME ignition to clearing the tower is spine-tingling.

  • WOW!

  • I love that it's just the roar of the engines...no voices at all..

  • 1:12 - 1:40 plasma or shockwaves of the speed of sound?

  • @XOROHN

No, that's just the camera. You can see it go through Mach 1 at approx. 0:50, look at the vapor cloud created by the vertical stab.

  • awesome!!!!!!

  • Took me a minute to realize this wasn't just a spectacular finale to a Pink Floyd concert.

  • @foxtrot789 who's that?

  • Holy fuck.

  • i almost wouln't mind blowing my speakers playing this video. awesome. the shockwave...wow. nasa is bad ass. saturn v was proof to me though. and that was a long time ago.

  • Oh, and great you tube post with just the sounds and sights or the rocketry itself. Thanks !

  • 0:25 -0:28 u can see shockwaves going up around the shuttle

  • it would have been so cool to actually see a launch when you go there for the VISIT :)

  • @ :23 Notice the massive shockwave caused by the ignition of the twin Solid rocket boosters.

  • @EpiDemic117 I've never seen those so well, absolutely amazing

  • @EpiDemic117 that was SWEEET!!!

  • @EpiDemic117 watch all the subsequent shockwaves! up untill :30 they are visible leaving the pad in all directions.

  • 35 million pounds of taxpayer thunder! Awesome!

    Nice optics, by the way.

  • oh god the shock waves are sexy

  • нереальная мощ!!

  • wow...

  • You know, his corvette probably can reach 60mph faster than the space shuttle but it can't go faster than 200mph, it can't do it going straight up and it can't do it with more than two (okay, three at a stretch) people on board. I could carry on with the Space Shuttle vs. Corvette comparison tear down but I can't be arsed.

  • Comment removed

  • y'know...for something that has like a gazillion horse power.....my corvette can probably reach 60 mph faster than it can...

  • @Ac1dlicous are you shitting me right now? Yes, your corvette can travel faster than a fucking space shuttle...dumbass

  • @Ac1dlicous Yea. You're corvette can probably do 0-mach 24 vertically upward while breaking through the atmosphere. Oh and your corvette is porbably heavier than a spaceshuttle.

  • @0Slipknot0 actually....

  • is this video free to use in a project i'm doing?

  • @gibersonniles Absolutely, go ahead and use it. Tell them I said it was OK.

  • If you look closely you can see muhammeds face in the rocket flume.I guess thats what president.... (vomit break).... Obama means by the muslims contribution to space and technology.Nasa's new asignment is to run a fruit stand in the middle east.Should that be profitable pass on info to the U.S.postal service. God help the U.S.A. or at the very least give me divine protection from these morons currently running the WORLD into the ground. The shuttle is amazing,i wonder how that came to be??????

  • Great Sound to go along with the HD camera work. If you have someone pound on your chest, it might come close to being there. Thanks!

  • Yokid37, that's pretty tough to film the suttle, huh? Specially at night. But I got tell you that the lighting, colors and heck! the suttle itself were absolutelly amazing in this film.

The close up at the engines took my words away. I fell very sorry that we don't have this in Brazil. What a shame...

    5*, bro!

    Thanks for sharing with us!

  • Honestly, with all respect, We, on earth need more than 1080p, to have enough details of this beauty

  • my earphones broke.

  • great video... you see all that power coming from the shuttle

  • awsome video !!!! great hd!!!

  • Dude, what did you do to my boxes?! Nevermind, Space Shuttle are allowed to break my boxes =D

  • just awsome !!!!

  • I have been to mars, and trust me there is no life there...all the bars close at 10:00 pm.

  • @Snotra Lol.......and martians have bad hygiene over there to..............awsome video

  • @ilikemario8

    u are retarded.

  • holy crap............. i mean wow, this is why i want to do this these types of vehicles are the most powerful things on this planet. I mean just look at the shockwaves come off the engines at full power...........amazing

  • Outsanding video. Love the shockwaves at loftoff and at 1:13 during and after Max-Q

  • What mission is this launch?

  • @bsatom If you understand how high the SPL is you would not compain. It would tear your eardrums to shreds. A rocket launch recorded this close is beyond F loud.

  • @bsod4u2 It isn't even a noise! At that range, it's a shockwave!

  • Absolutely fantastic!

  • I wonder how crispy a marshmallow would be if they hung one from the end of the shuttle as it took off. hehe.

  • that is beautiful

  • @40390576 lol

  • @40390576 Tone? What tone? Can you hear me??? lol

  • LOL... 1080p ????

  • THIS JUST TAKES MY BREATH AWAY AND MAKE ME SMILE AND WONDER LIKE A KID IN THE TOY STORE (VERY BASIC FEELINGS) THE REAL THING ---NO SEEING A MOVIE----- thats why people really do science TO BLOW BIG FUCKING THINGS FAAAAAAAAAAAR AWAY TO SPACE.... I WANT TO TRY TO DO THIS ON A HARLEY MOTO-THING-SPACE-ROCKET LOL

  • This is awesome.

  • This is outstanding. And I only watched it on my iPhone!!

  • what camera do you guys think was used to film this?

  • these systems are now being put to rest . but while they served they were inspiring, even magical . the human mind the human will GOD SPEED!

  • If you want some audio-visual greatness try watching this with music "The Journey" from sound track of "Book of Eli". Set audio to 1 min and try to start both at same time. You may get few seconds here and there but I believe you appreciate the idea ;)

  • FUCK that's loud.

  • what an awe.....!!!!!!!!

  • Yeah! Wonderful!

  • x Thanks... Years, Incredible, Memories Unforgettable | Rodrigo Lazzarini

  • I believe I have just wet my pants.

  • Nice

  • That's the ultimate thing to witness...sounds and lights! For real.

  • Un video a dir poco fantastico.bellissimo entusiasmante unico......

  • ARANCINO SEI PARTITO A MISSILE

  • the world is so awesome with new technology etc!

  • i wish i could fly in a space shuttle once

  • @123456789sha this tech is 50 years old...

  • The best launch video I've ever seen!

  • good

  • Look at the shockwaves at 1:11, can´t believe that !!!!

  • WOW!

  • This looks realy realy nice, but two barely noticeble thinks makes you realise that this is some serious stuff: 1. blast wave from SRB ingition looks like bomb went off and this puts released power into perspective; 2. supersonic shock waves that appear at 1:13 looks like space itself bends under presure from shuttle moving through it.

  • @Armuotas

You sound like a really smart guy. I don't know many people that could point those monents out. Hell, I probably wouldn't have even noticed the shock waves if it weren't for you. Thanks!

  • @Armuotas I noticed this too but I wasn't sure whether it was a camera effect, something from the glass, or what! I figured it must have been something supersonic.

  • Shuttle is AMAZING, but its also monumentally stupid. I love it and all, but even Biden said 'Its like playing russian roulette evry time they launch'

when asked if he would fly it again though, he said 'hell yes'.

lets hope NASA can coem up with soemthing even more epic with the new setup.

    Go NASA from UK

  • I'd laugh if the rockets just took off and the space shuttle was just standing still like "wut...?"

  • powerfull video and amazing!!

  • clever end of a high quality movie.....well done!

  • Amazing detail visible at 1080 on an HD monitor. It's like standing there and watching it live. Watch for the shock waves on the left at around 23s.

  • uh-may-sing

  • The cutting edge of human endeavor. The Mozarts among us aren't writing music anymore.

  • @cincinnatuschili check out Jason becker "Air" that will shut u up

  • @cincinnatuschili

    i know its omazing.

    nice statement

  • speak 4urself

  • @cincinnatuschili but it is still art (sort of)

  • @cincinnatuschili We've taken teachers up for a ride, we should also consider taking artists of various mediums

such as composers, musicians, painters and sculptors to inspire new generations.

  • That's one of the most colossally badass things I've ever seen/heard! PHWOR!! Science, bitches :)

  • awesome jizzmypants shockwave at 0:22

  • With this picture and sound....I just about shit my pants at the liftoff!

  • That my friend, is the sound of awesome.

  • that was...a...loud^^

  • i want to be the first person in space to have a bong

  • You most likely will be. You will also most likely be the first person in space who thinks they can make re-entry without a space shuttle.

Silly person, you're not Chuck Norris.

  • Sound like you're really there with my 5.1 and 1080P WOW!!!

  • I wonder how it turns... simply by utilizing its Ailerons?

  • They aren't actually "ailerons" but "elevons" (ailerons+elevators), like on the Concorde... apart from that, the vehicle has not only elevons but the rudder too. And, apart from the aerodynamic surfaces, the nozzles of all the 5 engines (3 SSMEs + 2 SRBs) can be X-Y swiveled, giving you a thrust vectoring capability.

  • @Elhombresombra that's one hell of an achievement in flight.

  • @Firespectrum122 It will swivel the nozzles on the boosters to make the turn. The main engines also gimble, or swivel, to provide flight control during launch. The aerosurfaces on the shuttle are active and provide some control but it is mostly from nozzle swivel, also known as thrust vectoring. I hope this helps

  • the space shuttle launch in the beauty of HD! sweet!

  • WOW!

  • amazing

  • What a great video clip! Nice stuff.

  • holy sh*t this is awesome.

  • damn the shockwawes from boosters are looking awesome =)

  • wow, u can see the space shuttle in speed of sound, crazy ass high definition XD

  • I love how you can see the pressure waves at SRB ignition. Like one continuous explosion, incredible.
