Funny how even with all of the intense convective activity right near the eyewall we think it's unlikely lightning frequently occurs in hurricanes. Didn't NASA do a study which showed many hurricanes in recent times, particularly during their intensification, had a lot of lightning much stronger than those found in average thunderstorms?
