ma se... una band come gli Animals avesse avuto i mezzi tecnici di adesso, quali meraviglie ci avrebbe regalato, oltre a quelle che già ci hanno dato?
actually it was originally done by Jay Hawkins. Nobody has ever been able to capture the same feeling of mystery and fright as he did in the original version. Although, I do enjoy both CCR and The Animals' versions, no doubt.
@MissMinnieMoocher I'm going to check Jay's right now. You're right CCR's is probably the best; nevertheless, Marilyn Manson did it right, too. H'm... Miss Moocher? ...a Cab Calloway fan perhaps? I'd like to hear good covers of Viper Drag & Reefer Man, eh?
@XxXmysexiscursedXxX not really, i'm 23 and i've heard a thousand girls talk about being infatuated with some obscure musician that nobody else their age is going to know about.. or old school actors or athletes. its not bad. just you forming ideals about men. its like you have the safest boyfriend in the world because he's dead now or old and can never change, and then later in life you'll look for men with his characteristics and qualities.
My choice R & B band from ever. And the best I PUT PELL ON YOU version of the history. Note the instruments in a difficult polirhythm ending, and Eric wanderfull as ever.
i don't get what has justin bieber to do with this song???you don't like like justin is ok,but there are some people out there that they do and you can't do anything about it,so you better shut it and enjoy this great song!
I love the Animals, but the only cover of this I've heard by a white band that really boasts intensity even close to Screamin' Jay's frickin' voodoo is Fogerty and CCR's.
@dkaerics This one isn't too bad, but personally Tab Benoit does this one superbly! Sorry, Screamin' Jay has a style I'm not really into although it's very good!
i came on utube to just upload one of eric's song. that was3 hours ago. you just can't break away from that voice. discovered some tunes i had not heard. i haven't even taken a break for a smoke. heart, soul and some blues in his blood. what a great mix it made.
@thedollhouse10 i put a spell on you was originally done by screamin' jay hawkins, and house of the rising sun and good night irene was originally done by leadbelly.
Grea , great tune, but nothing beats the Alan Price (original keyboardist) Sets' version, no way, that is one of the alltime greatest white blues bands tune, tho this aint far behind
I just love when he says "I love you, I love you, I love you, I love you, I love you, I love you anyhow" and the end part from 2:45 to 2:54. What a great voice!!!
They were a little scary for the under 21 crowds like when they played at Baker Beach a beach venue that was kept spectacularly dark in the sixties but the venue was open to the under 21 crowd.
Alan Price released his own version days after the animals did and what a stark contrast. The animals are deep and soulful and alan was well....laurence welk without bubbles. Guess Alan really didn't fit past 1966.
'i love you, i love you, i love you, i love you, i love you, i love you oh baby how and i don't care you don't want me' i gave this to my love and i failed unfortunately :)
In the USA, this was the last track on the LP Animalization and included a later line-up than that of the early line-up shown on the clip: Barry Jenkins had replaced John Steele on drums and Dave Rowberry had replaced Alan Price on keyboards. Only the members of the early line-up received intrance into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. However, Jenkins and Rowberry played magnificently on many of the Animals' later hits and albums. The last chorus/ending on this 'Spell' version rivals anybodys.
@0live0wire0 Credence did a great cover on this song and Alan Price did a great cover and made full use of the Hammond.. The two best ever covers. Both brilliant in their own way
I love the animals. but seriously did all of hits have to be covers? they are an excellent band, the erics voice is awesome, but no original content?!?!?!
Eric Burdon is the best white blues singer ever. And sounds like a 50yr old black man at 20yrs. old. As far as white blues singers sounding black lets not forget the great Greg Allman and Steve Marriott.
How could I forget Stevie Winwood? But I knew I couldn't fit all my favorites so I picked three.I just love Eric's take on all the old blues classics the Animals did/do.
@frankty67 jim morrison. and stop if you going to get anti-pop\ mainstream with me, because if you listen morrison in Backdoor Man, you crap yourself out.

@frankty67 EXACTLY. Whether I'm listening to the Animals, The Doors, The Kinks, CCR, the Whom or the Beatles etc.. people have this strange desire to make this into a competition. Just enjoy the amazing music of the 1960's, they were all great.
Yeah thats what I say, enjoy all the great 60s music because there will never be an era so potent (in such a short amount of time) full of killer bands and musicians. Why they make a competition out of it and even start swearing and put downs is just fucked, and immature.Rock on!!!
