Precision Division specializes in circuit-level laptop motherboard repair. Repairs are performed at a computer controlled dark infrared rework station and monitored by continuous ESD event detection. BGA glues are chemically removed prior to rework.
A thermal management solution is then implemented to help the system run cooler.
good job, i have been a component level tech most my life, i am very good at doing things i am told cant be done. people who can think for them selves wont be stifled by others telling them "it can not be done" we need more people like this guy who dont just give up cause some sales man said can't be done.. right on man..
@scaleop4 Probably Chinese in origin. Defective or low quality capacitors (85 degrees Celsius tolerance) have only half the lifespan of high quality capacitors (100+ degrees Celsius tolerance). What happens is the electrolyte evaporates inside the capacitor.
Some Taiwanese companies in the early 2000's started to use Japanese electrolyte formulas (corporate espionage) but didn't have all the additives. Hence the higher failure rates of non-Japanese capacitors. I bet this is the case here.
Hah.... I have computer from November 2001. It had defective capacitors (in 2005), i changed it and...... It's now 2011 and it still works :). Everyone who don't know, If you have problem with computer, check capacitors. It's common problem with motherboards (I think it's common).
Silkscreen looks like ASUS board used on a Compaq Presario per se.? I picked up a number of Dells and one IBM with capacitors visibly "blown", however, some damage may not be physically seen. The hardest part is getting good caps as stores don't sell the right ones for most mobos, and every mobo I've gotten uses different caps among them, making it hard to donate one to the other. I bought a bunch of Dell SX260s however, all have a few blown caps and hope to get working again! IBM has GFX slot
@MetallicBill Oh i just realized, my relative who gave me his computer replaced the motherboard but it was in a emachines case. I forgot about that. Thank you now I can upgrade the motherboard. : )
