Probably because jam bands aren't necessarily defined by their musicianship but rather by the way they play their music, as well as the music they choose to play. Your aformentioned bands with chops are not jam bands because they stick to a more rigid bluegrass format. These guys kind of let it all hang loose in their own way during individual breaks. I saw them recently befor the Infamous Stringdusters and they played extensive jams, were fun to listen to, and were big crowd pleasers.

ok the songs pretty catchy and all but they aren't the greatest musicians, the banjo player especially sticks out to me, just like yonder mountain string band, their banjo player is not very good at all. Idk how they get famous in the jam band scene without much talent. Real bluegrass bands like Ricky skaggs and kentucky thunder, doyle lawson and quicksilver, the bluegrass album band, j.d crowe and the new south, are unheard of in the jamband scene and they are sooooo much better! i dont get!

Saw them play a GREAT show last night at Mexicali Live, in Teaneck, NJ! Our favorite band, Railroad Earth .. from NJ) met these guys at a bluegrass festival in Michigan ......and turned them on to some festivas and venues in the east!
