  • I feel like these are impossible to find. Do you know a website where I can find one?

  • @The50Bricks Nope, they are really hard to find these days.

  • Eric, just wanted to say thank you for the awesome videos. Just bought my first new engine and cant wait to run it. But, also thank you for the review on this engine. The wife loves it and I believe it will be the next purchase.

  • i know MTH is making one with a passenger car i belive it is

  • @SIMPLEPLANROCKS22 It's suppose to hit hobby shops sometime in Febuary.

  • @MrNemesis63 i know i cant wait

  • hay were can i find that train i have look every wear

  • Still believe this is the best engine ever made? I still do....

  • @Broncort1 Yep, I think it's the best 3-Rail O-Scale engine every made. I have to specify "O-Scale" or else I'll get it from the HO guys. Hehe.

  • @esiegel76 what is the worst 3 rail O- scale engine ever made? as far as graphics and operation?

  • @wampaAWESOMEsauce I really don't know. I guess it's probably partially a matter of opinion. My guess would probably be something during Lionel's MPC era in the 70's and early 80's.

  • @esiegel76 i have an old 90 something coast guard train and a 2003 great northern freight train and they have really bad sound graphics but good hand graphics and operation. but the Great northern one is really noisy when it runs.

  • Hey I love the colors. I see in your video that you also have a norfolk southern heritage. I just got one my self and was wondering if the fans on that one work as well and if you could do a video on it to help me under stand all the options.

  • @Eaglelandscaping I already did a review of the NS Heritage SD70. You can find it on my channel. No, the fans do not spin on the SD70's.

  • will this fit on my Athearn HO 83 track?

  • @shedimat No, this is O-scale, not HO

  • @esiegel76 ok, do you know if they make an ho model?

  • @shedimat Lionel only makes O scale. Intermountain makes some in HO.

  • Helllo Eric,

do you used the ledacy system remote with lionel trains or DCS.and vice versa.

  • wow! great looking locomotive, they keep raising the bar !

  • hey eric, for us newbies in the group, when you do product intros...would it be possible to tell mfg.and the product number to reference to order from

  • @nickthegodly They've made a bunch of them now. There's UP, BNSF and KCS now.

  • man, i never knew the roof acme off! :D

  • @aeroguy86 it is 875.00

  • very nice those lights are crazy does the poroto so that? and how much is a unit like this coast?

  • How do you access the start up sequence/dialogue for this using the legacy remote? I don't know if I missed it in the instructions or what, I just cant seem to get that figured out.

  • @SirSebaztian Press and hold the start button and it triggers the start up sequence.

  • @esiegel76 Mystery solved, thank you!

  • The vibrant hose is not a hose... it is an electrical cord (wire). That's how multiple-units communicate with each other when lashed together. That electric cord works in concert with the MU hoses that you mentioned earlier. When the cord is not used, it is stowed in the position you see it on your model. On the prototype- where the cord comes out is "hot." The other side is a stowage port & the end of the cord is stowed in that stowage port in the position you see it on the model.

  • @BNSF5675 Cool

  • Which engine of yours can pull the most cars?

  • @bradstrains I've never done a comparison between all my engines, but I would guess that most of my 2-motor diesels can pull about the same. I've never tested the upper limits, but a typical 2-motor diesel will easily pull 30 cars. Probably the most powerful puller I have is my MTH Norfolk Southern A-B-B-A diesel set, simply because it has 4 motors.

  • Did you notice that the battery charge lights change their direction when you apply the brake or slow it down?

  • How many and what product lines does Lionel have?

  • If you were to make a top ten favorite O scale locomotive list, which 10 locomotives would be your favorite?

  • @trainguy111 I really don't know. That's sorta like asking a parent to pick their favorite child. :)

  • @esiegel76 In other words, you sort of love them all. Welcome to my world! :)

  • imagine this in n scale lol

  • How much is this engine? And does it work With regular Lionel TMCC? My Grandpa has a very large layout and I want to give him something with my work money for Christmas! Thanks for the vid. Eric!

  • @Hobbyinator The GE hybrid sold for around $875. You probably can't find one now, however. Lionel is continuing to make these engines in other roadnames, however, and you can get those for about $700.

  • Where can I still get one of these I cant find any hobby shop anywhere that has tehm in stock. Thanks in advanced.

  • @LoganisTrainBoy1 You're going to have a really hard time finding one now. They sold out quite a while ago.

  • So much trains, so little space for play :D

  • I see a ring on your finger- I'm surprised you're still wearing it after buying this engine.

  • when i seen this in the catalog i wasnt sure if i would like it im one of those pepole that wait some time and to see how well it dose for a year or so but after seening this vid i would most likely buy one down the line but i still think lionel is over chargeing us for our trains now being made in china since the year 2000

  • What paint job is on the NS SD70m behind the GE EVO hybrid?

  • @epistte That's one of the NS Heritage SD70's that Lionel has been putting out for the last few years.

  • how strong is it i need to switch

  • what curves do you think are most popular for O gauge track

  • @1macgeorge

it depends on what you have in ur collection. Not all trains can run on same sized track. For example, the lionel Amtrak HHP-8 can run on O-36, but the GE Hybrid can run on minimum O-54. It's pretty much like how you want to balance between quality and quantity. Such as would you sacrifice quality so that ur train can run on tight O-31 curves? or would you sacrifice minimum curves for the best detailing?

  • The red hose thing is called an MU 27 pins cable.

  • You think there's a chance of getting the Vision Line 700e Hudson?

  • @726berkshire I've ordered one.

  • @esiegel76 Wow. Nice!!! ;)

  • hey, I got one of these for Christmas, and I am loving it so far!

  • this is a really great train. how much did it cost

  • hey eric- will this engine run on 0-42 curves?

  • @daybeers I believe Lionel states the minimum curve is O-54.

  • great informative video, great job!

  • wow, thank you for making this video, great engine. Yes I would like one, but I have the MTH system. Excellent job with the video also. thank you

  • you know what would be cool, if the coupler cut bar really did open the coupler.

  • I agery with you that this is the best o scale Diesel ever made!

  • wow Refinement !! Good :D

  • Can the battery charge lights be turned off? and whats the point of having a battery in it if it has power from the track?

  • @spartan0738 Yes, they can be turned off. It's not actually charging a battery in the model. Those battery charge lights are on the real-life engine and they light up when the engine's battery bank is being charged. The lights were something GE did for the first demonstrator Hybrid ES44 to show off it's hybrid features.

  • @esiegel76 Hi.. Where can I you buy it? Thanks :)

  • I found your Page by accident.

I'm an HO/OO Scaler. I commend your Demonstration!

    Brilliant and Clear explanation! Kudos!

  • The lights under the engine look like something from a dance floor. Very cool! Sure hope a 1:20.3 scale model of the engine has it. It makes the engine look magical, like something that belongs in Disney's Electrical Parade.

  • I hope the Boy Scouts of America ES44ac in the Lionel 2010 Vol.II catalog has all the same details as this locomotive does.....

  • @DJW701 It looks like it has everything except the blinking battery charge lights along the bottom.

  • can you run the engine on a MTH system???

  • @alexandernicholas123 Yes and no. the MTH system by itself will not control this engine. However, if you buy a Lionel TMCC Command Base and connect it to the MTH system you can control the engine with the MTH remote...but you won't be able to access any of the engine's advanced features. I would highly recommend getting the Legacy system to control this engine.

  • @esiegel76 Thank you so much!!!

  • @esiegel76 Would i need a full lionel system???

  • @alexandernicholas123 If you're going to spend the money to buy an engine like this, I would go ahead and get the whole Legacy system so that you can use all the cool features on the engine.

  • @esiegel76 Thank you so much!!! Will do!

  • You're very well spoken - that's refreshing; and somewhat unusual in this venue;-)

  • how much did this cost????????????????

  • @josh4157 They retail for about $800

  • man i doubted vision line. now i dont. THAT IS AMAZING!!!!! WELCOME BACK LIONEL! i still hate that i installed 0-31 stupid curves than 0-72.

  • Does the EVILUTION HYBRID has the same 4,400 horsepower?Or does it have more?

  • @BigBoyO56 I believe it the same 4,400 HP, but don't quote me on that.

  • @esiegel76 OK.

  • This if my favorite ES44AC diesal engine out of all of GE Beautifall Eric. Beautifull.I like how lional went with the hybrid act. I have theO scale MTH ES44AC GE Demonstrator.

  • Will it turn on O-36?

  • @disneylandguy10 I don't think so.

  • I can tell you are not too big of a fan of MTH....

  • @DJW701 I'm actually a huge fan of MTH. Most of my stuff is MTH. I think MTH has gotten a little lazy lately, however, and for the time being I think Lionel is putting out a better product. With MTH's expansion into HO, I think they've sorta left their O-Scale stuff on autopilot for a while, which is unfortunate. I hope they get back into the game and start pushing the envelope again.

  • @esiegel76 MTH is supposed to come out with Protosound 3 (which is already on their HO engines) in O scale this fall. Hopefully, they keep to their promises.

  • @Bassfanatic94 I hope so too.

  • @Bassfanatic94 Hi Eric, just wanted to add a correction to what I had said earlier. MTH already has Protosound 3 in some of their O scale engines. They are only available in their European steam and diesel/electric. They are in their Volume 2 2010 catalog. I just noticed it today!

  • @Bassfanatic94 Yeah, I don't think PS 3.0 is any big change. The HO stuff has been using it. I think PS 3 is just a smaller system so if can fit inside a smaller space. I don't think it has any extra features.

  • @esiegel76 Yeah I agree with you. Protosound 3 is just smaller and eliminates the ugly cord that comes out of a steam engine tender. I think, if I heard correctly from my hobby shop guy, that they used a capacitor (whatever that means) in order to get rid of the cord. Heres a tip for you, if you use a diesel sound connector cable for your steamers it gets rid of that big ugly one that it comes with. I saw it on the Black Diamond Railway website, you can only do it for O-72 or higher I believe.

  • @DJW701

MTH isn't bad. At least they make stuff that even lionel wouldn't make, but they don't make a wider variety of sound sets like lionel has done. I remember watching the demo video of the new ALP-46. At first ,it's scald appearance was very nice, but the sound was awful. It sounded more to be a GG-1 instead of a real ALP-46. That was a big disappointment.

  • I might buy one, I have SOME O scale even though I'm HO.

  • You used the dark gray "yard" version of Brennan's ballast correct?

  • @CSXTransportation I use both. On the mainline I use the light gray, in the yard and use the black yard ballast.

  • i gotta get one they made one just like that one by lionel but it just has canadian pacific paint job instead of the hybrid painting

  • That's Eric for all the help and keep up the great work ! Can't wait for your video ! Put me down for 2

  • I think that is one of the best locomotives I've seen. I don't use O scale but that one seems really good!!

  • That sound amazing! The bad part is that a GE doesnt have a quillable horn in real life, they have a Solenoid and not a valve. The second part is that GECX 2010 (now UP 7605) has a different horn. A Nathan K5HLL horn. This one comes pretty close though.

  • that is very cool, i want one. and i don't have o scale. but now i think i might get into it.

  • that is very cool, i want one. and i don't have o scale. but now i think i might get into it.

  • that is very cool, i want one. and i don't have o scale. but now i think i might get into it.

  • Please let me know if this GE Evolution really has that much of a better sound quality and chatter ( I'm not that interested in the detail as much because of my poor eye sight) than any other MTH Premier or Lionel diesel. Before I spend close to $750.00 for the CP vision line. And which next two diesels would have the best quality total sounds under it.

    Ty

    Frank

  • @beerdispensing The sound is fantastic, but it's up to you whether or not you want to spend the money on it.

  • This is a stunning presentation, well done.

Interesting all the info about the issue with turns. Looks great when it's on the move

    I want one now.

  • They should make one in ho scale (1:87)

  • i think a realisstic horn would be better for this engine like the k5hll

  • @mjet401bnsf Yep. A K5HLL also cannot be quilled as they are blown on Solenoid valves on that specific model.

  • I wonder what would be next? what would you like to see (in therms of features)?

  • Now that you mentioned it. I checked out the new Lionel 2010 Signature Edition catalog.

The hybrid is back in a new paint scheme of the Canadian Pacific. Retail is about the same price as the origiinal GE Hybrid.

  • that is the best train ever

  • Thanks for the product review I'm getting mine in just a few more days :D paid $699.99..

I agree, this is definitely the best O-scale locomotive in the market :)

  • That engine seems great it looks very nice i like all of the detail on it and i like the flashing lights going along the bottom i also thought that its cool that it can go into sleep mode. Anb by the way your layout looks GREAT!!

  • Correction 699.99.

  • I just wanted to say thanks, your video cost me 799.99. I am looking forward to it though.

  • FANTÁSTICO! É uma pena que para comprar uma locomotiva dessas e traze-la aqui par o Brasil fica muito caro! A Lionel esta de parabéns!

  • that plume of smoke which the unit emits when you take it up a notch is called 'turbo lag,' from revving up the turbocharger

  • cool

  • something else to notice....the flashing lights change direction when you decelerate.

  • Yeah, there's a lot of stuff I would have liked to mention but YouTube's time limits forced me to cut a lot out. I wish they'd raise the limit to 15 minutes or something.

  • Thanks for the "honorable mention" Eric...your really coming along great as a reviewer...you must have it scripted or something, because you never stumble....lol. Hey, if you want a good laugh, watch the video with the "CC" turned on and read what you say....its hiliarious!

  • Ha, that's really funny.

  • @esiegel76 ......."I'm American Eagle and thanks for watching"......lololol

  • how much was that

  • $699

  • @esiegel76 700? i thought it was around 900

  • It lists for $900. My dealer did $700.

  • @esiegel76 thats a sweet deal man, your layout looks awesome!i watched some of your videos on your web page.

  • Great review. Have you seen Overland brass diesels?

  • Overland make nice stuff. It'd also be cool if 3rd rail would make more contemporary diesels.

  • so can you run this loco on 0-36 curves or is that to small

  • I don't have any O-36 curves to test it on, but I would think those might be a little too small. The box says the minimum curve is O-48.

  • ok thanks

  • Very professional, Eric. You've got a real talent. My only criticism is that close-up video to illustrate your speaking points would be nice(r). MVS.

  • It is by far the best Diesel on the market right now, and on my want list! I've heard MTH is releasing a hydrid just like this soon. Great video you made on it, and congrats on the purchase! PLEASE SUB ME! I would love to hear your comments on my layout.....5% the size of yours LOL

  • awsome video and keep your good work.

  • im happy that u have the engine- with a layout like urs- its a must lol for what you have it is totally worth it! take care of it- in 50yrs its gonna be worth a lot like the old blue comet sets of the '30s lol have fun!

  • Great looking and performing engine, although lionel once again confuses me horn-wise. I don't know what horn is prototypical, but that horn almost reminds me of the old Amtrak E60 P1235 horns. Still, amazing train

  • Where do you buy all your stuff and is there a website?

  • Great review Eric, I was waiting for this one!!

  • Now those are two absolutely beautiful engines and a great video. Right now Im down due to total knee replacements so Im redoing old Marx stuff from EBay. Its fun and passes the time.

  • I was wondering if the Lionel features can be controlled through the DCS system. (horn, bell, smoke, lights, fans, etc.), I want to get this model but I'm not sure if it will work on my layout. I am also looking for a price range or what I would expect to pay for this model. I think the cab features sold me. Great video.

  • You can run the engine through the DCS system. Most of the cool features will still work, though some of the sounds and so forth won't work unless you've got Legacy. The engine lists for $875 (I think), but you can get it for around $700.

  • Do you know which features won't work through.the DCS? So far I know the quillable whistle won't work, but does the horn in general still work? As far as the smoke do you know if that will work ? It seems to me that the smoke is a built in feature as well as the fans. Can you give me a price range for the Legacy system as well? Thanks.

  • I'm not sure off hand exactly which ones don't work as I haven't ran this engine through my DCS system. The horn will still work, you just can't quill it. I think the smoke, fan and light features are built into the engine. Bottom line is that you can run this with the DCS remote, but it's more fun if you've got the Legacy remote.

  • Thanks for the info. I'll probably start off running it through the DCS and then get the Legacy system later. Once again, thanks.

  • This is awesome!

  • I might get the GenSet once I widen my curves.

  • i wanna see it go around a curve!

  • I would like one.

  • NICE!!! PGHtrainfanatic will be jealous

  • Ahhhh man, Yeah I need to re-think my next engine. Thanks for posting.

  • very cool.

  • Now if that isn't awesome, I can't tell you what is.

  • Very cool, but could you do some more running of this engine? Thanks!

  • Due to YouTube time restraints, I didn't have time for a lot shots of the train in motion. Besides, when it runs it pretty much looks like any other engine out there. It's the sound and features that make it special.

  • you can post up to a 10:59min video, i have tried 11min but it would not let me, so as long as you are under 11min u are good.

  • imovie won't let me go over 10 minutes

  • I know what I want for Christmas!
