Growing up, I for one never consciously differentiated by race & i agree with basikaltuamuda. The culture shock in uni was huge, for the first time the differentiation was super apparent & saddening.

Unless someone is a native / aborigine of the land, they are rightly called 'pendatang' to the land, and yes the Chinese & Indians should be able to trace their ancestry to China.
Historians suggest the Malay race moved from mainland asia to what is now the peninsular & different parts of southeast asia such as parts of the island of Sumatra - Also rightly called 'pendatang'.

When I see a Malay being honoured with a Nobel Peace Prize I will change my opinion. At this point of time, the Malays in Malaysia are boosting their deflated ego by giving out to each other useless titles - Datuklah, Datinlah, Tan Sri lah dll. Not one of them has been awarded a Nobel Peace Prize!

Of course. It is understood that Bangsa Melayu is not based on DNA! That is why over 50% of the so-called 'Melayu' adalah Keturunan Pendatang dari negara2 luar sempadan Nusantara! And then you have 35% of the various (Non-Malay) ethnic groups from Indonesia (e.g. Bugis, Minang, Jawa, Bawean, Mendailing dll). Since these 'Melayu' Nusantara are from Indonesia, why is it that Malaysia has not declared Indonesia as a Negara Melayu???? Or perhaps the Indonesians do not consider themselves as Melayu?
