Lizzie's father likely was molesting the girls. The older sister prob had to go away for a preg. He married to conceal it but Lizzie hated being usurped and the step's failure to stop the abuse. Lizzie wouldnt be able to marry. They would inherit. These things were not discussed but would have been reason for a jury to look away quietly.
