Thats my mum Margaret O'Donnell (Gilligan) and granny Delia O'Donnell at 1:14 :) Thankyou so much for making this video to show me my family history. My names Joseph Gilligan and I love Arranmore, hopefully going to visit this summer. Also as most of you watching this video are probably distant family could you help me by clicking on my youtube channel and watching my videos :) everyone in Arranmore take care and hopefully see you this summer!
Wonderful! My Irish grandmother hadn't heard this in years. I am so happy to have found this wonderful version. The photos remind me of our own family.
ASYLUM SEEKERS COST IRELAND €1.275 BILLION - DOES NOT INCLUDE ILLEGAL IMMIGRANTS OR CRIME OR COSTS FROM OTHER TYPES OF IMMIGRANTS.
The Reception and Integration Agency (RIA) heard that the total amount spent by Government on asylum seekers in the past five years totals €1.275 billion, of which €423 million was spent on direct provision.
The attire of the people in the video is so like the one worn in Newfoundland in that time and place.Really in tune with song .Great blend of time and tune.
A benchmark for anyone thinking of posting a video of their homeland...This is how it's done..Great song with flowing pictures. All the Arran ones should follow this example and air their history.
From Nov 09 to March 2010, out of 19 council houses, allocated by Tralee council 11 went to immigrants. Many Irish people are on the housing waiting list, some waiting for 7yrs, and the houses are going to foreigners.
Kerryman 14/4/10
This at a time when Irish children in care are being moved around in different care homes and B&B's. Some of these kids have been abused and committed suicide - they would greatly benefit from a secure council house.
This song an the pics .Where made for each other ...And I reckon Aranmore Island is the best kept secret on the holiday market ....Beautiifulll Scenery Beautifull place with stunning views back to the Irish Mainland ......
Great post! The photos and the song are made for each other. Used to go to Donegal for summer holidays around Leitir and visit the old grand aunts and uncle around Glenties. Have not been in over 10 years, it is a beautiful place. Have to get back soon.
I can see that there was time, effort, and love went into the making of this video, well done Mo Chara, I wandered down my own boreens while i watched , time has flown Slan.
This got my Irish hear racing --- I was brought up in Co Galway and as a child these are my vivid memories --could have been "Me Granny and Grandad" aunts and uncles ---- I did shed a few tears
i know what ya mean, and i live in ireland, just the old photos in this vid reminds me of my aunts and uncles that are now passed and i miss them a lot, they always used to listen to johnny!
Hello I'm a girl from Belgium and I search for a man. His name is Marc McEvoy. When he was young he came to Belgium To a gastfamily. when there was trouble in North Ireland. Can you help me. Thanks
Just following up on something that DonegalRaymie201 said 'West Donegal has a landscape that's unique in Ireland; granite rock , heather and sea. Nowhere else in Ireland looks like it! It's a geologigal landscape that Ireland only has in Donegal!' actually county Mayo also looks very similar to West Donegal and Western Highlands.
Allow me to qualify this all, West Donegal has a landscape that's unique in Ireland; granite rock , heather and sea. Nowhere else in Ireland looks like it! It's a geologigal landscape that Ireland only has in Donegal! It looks exactly like the Western Highlands of Scotland, to which it is related! The Scots have literally shit loads of that landscape, 1000's of square miles of it, but you can't build on it, because it's protected in Scotland! Why don't we care in Ireland?
Lovely pictures and song, just wished they hadn't allowed so much bloody vandal house building in the County. I barely recognised places last summer when I went back. How many holiday homes can the county support?
I know I criticise the Scots, but there's no way Scots would allow the amount of development in Skye or some such beautiful place that Donegal has had!
Johnny I love your music,Paul Brady,Tom McHaile,Joséf Locke,Frank McCaffrey(Warrenpoint Townhall .circa 1982 with me Da).....great memories God Bless yous all !
Im a Dublin lad thru n thru. Me Mam from Donegal. Ive been goin 2 r 3 times a year since i was born. Altho im a city lad, its the most beautiful place in the world!
One of the best postings i've seen on youtube. Can't stop looking at it. The music fits the photos so well. Everytime I view it, memories of summer holidays in Arran come back again. Well done Kilcoyne
I love this song. I remember the first time I heard it was on the Walton's Sponsored Programme on Radio Eireann and the singer was Charlie McGee. I know Donegal well. Grand county ---too fond of the drink!!!
This is a great collection of pics, set to one of the best songs known to man! I could see my own relatives in each person in the photos. I swear we had that same dog at our home near Ballintra, Co. Donegal. Thanks for a trip down "GREAT" memory lane!

Very nostalgic viewing, recognised quite a few faces - especially Maggie Condy, Maire Mackey, Hannah Kilcoyne and family. I was in tears at the end.
Thank you!
