  • Dare I say, if the Eagles ever want to win a Super Bowl, they should absolutely plead with Goodell to finally recoginize the 1925 Pottsville Maroons as NFL champions. In essence, such would finally, after 86 years, cauterize the most vicious of injustice the NFL has ever created.

  • Interestingly, Frankford, aka Philadelphia Eagles, who helped the Cardinals win the 1925 fraudulent championship based on their "technicality" as arranged w/ Joe Carr, won the championship the next year, 1926. Funny thing, the Eagles and Cardinals have been in bed ever since. Note how the only legit championship the Cards ever won was in 1947 when they beat the Eagles. The Eagles then won it in 1948 when they beat, you guessed it, the Cards.

  • Pres Joe Carr was nothing but a fraud. It is an absolute travesty that Pottsville was striped of its championship based on a technicality. Pottsville beat the Chicago Cardinals 21-7 late December 1925 to rightfullly claim the championship w/ a 10-2 record. And then Frankford, later known as the Philadelphia Eagles, got Carr involved over territorial rights issue.

  • @andrew62

Teams were LOSING lots of money back then. What extra profits was there to enjoy? Whatever the deal, the Maroons accomplished more than you probably ever will in life.

  • Get over it. The broke the rules and that's it. I hope playing the illegal game was worth the cash they made.

  • @andrewr62 That illegal game made the NFL so much money. Award the 1925 Championship to the Pottsville Maroons!

  • @micros45 What they accomplished in terms of wins and losses can never be taken away from the players or the city. At least somebody living still cares.

  • what about the cubs and the curse of the goat, how long has that been going on?

  • Not hating. I just feel if you are part of group, adhere to the rules and regulations

of that group. All NFL teams helped the NFL become what it became. The Maroons

owner's decision did nothing to help Potsville or his teams long term interest. He rolled the dice and lost. And the rest is history as they say. Now just a forgotten

    footnote in NFL history.

  • If you belong to a league, you play by the leagues rules. The Maroons were given

fair warning not to play the game. I call there decision to play pure greed. Was the

extra money worth the risk of losing the championship? Apparently the Maroon's

thought it was. I'm sure the enjoyed the extra cash.

  • @andrewr62 The NFL IS PURE GREED! The Maroons Went For And Helped The NFL become what it is. Haters can always refer to rules. I can give you rules...Maroons lost there championship due to a "territory dispute". The Maroons played when the Chicago Bears and Chicago Cardinals played in the same town. Did they ever play on the same day?

  • i undertsand the sentiment but on my speakers the dumass with the whistle needs to be knocked out cause he ruins the sentiment :)

  • what compelled the Pottsville Maroons to play Notre Dame a college team?

  • @jay55also Back in the day college football was bigger than pro, and Notre Dame was the team to beat.

  • @jay55also Notre Dame had the "Four Horsemen". College Football was to the NFL in that era what Boxing is to Mixed Martial Arts in this one(or was)

  • Do they sell jerseys of this former team? I'm being serious.

  • There is a bar in town which sells hats I believe. Sorry I don't know the name. Might try calling the mayor.

    Thank you.

  • its called Maroons

  • ive been there that where my step moms from.

  • Well, if the NFL stripped a championship from the Maroons as punishment for breaking league rules, then why didn't they do the same with the Patriots this century?!

  • Very true.

  • and that's why the Cardinals are cursed?

  • yes.

  • Go Pottsville Maroons! The true NFL Champs of 1925!Keep on fighting the good fight!

  • Thats a shame..

  • my practice

  • my city!!!!!

  • I just finished reading Dave Fleming's "Breaker Boys". My great uncle played for the Coaldale Big Greens and enjoyed kicking the Maroons' asses as much as they enjoyed kicking his. But he would be the first in line to kick the NFL's asses for taking back Pottsville's championship

  • Maroons and Dave Fleming of ESPN ROCK! Keep up the fight!

  • my city!!
