Thank you for another wonderful vid. This is a subject I've always had strong opinions on.I couldn't agree with you more. For myself many of the people I look to for inspiration are musicians, artists, writers, film makers.People who successfully siphon their ideas and feelings from one mind to many.Passion and integrity are ideals of mine therefore I respect those who embody those principles. The pastel banality of most celebrity is maybe a symptom of people being told what their ideals are.
:) Thanks. There's a significant difference between sharing ideas and getting inspiration and as you say the pastel banality of most celebrity (awesome phrase :)). Passion and integrity make good bedfellows.
Good point. In this day and age all it takes, apparently, is to participate on a reality show. I honestly haven't got a clue what really would make a person a celebrity "deservedly". Richard Feynman would spring to my mind as one such person, but why exactly? Not sure.
It seems that celebrity is what many seek, irrespective of whether any gift or talent is attached. It is celebrity itself that is worshipped these days, the ability to attain that status, which seems to be perceived as success.
I think you've verbalised my thoughts on this already but I like to put a comment in. A celebrity is not the icons created in the psychosis we have to endure with television(throw it away). I think it's when someone gives you the feeling he or she is a genius and is continuously inspiring you, be it in music or literature or something else. Very important they must be inspiring you, not talking to you about their money and cars.
Great thanks! Now can I ask _you_ a question? How come we(the majority of us) spend our time draining our selfestime by idolizing shallow people? Hunting for confirmation of our own political views? 20 -40 years ago television featured inspiring conversations with intellectuals(!) sharing books and views on life. Political discussions were filled with creative and real arguments. All of this is gone. So what happened? And what do we gain from this selftorture?
What follows may not be fact. In times of hardship the heart of things seem to matter more. We strive harder, learn better. We have, in the pest many years, been in a (largely false) state of ease. But also religion used to offer a highly effective form of social control. It has become less and less so. Another method was needed. Encouraging aspiration to and worship of mindless bimbos et al, and to desire only to aquire meaningkless trappings is another kind of anaesthetic. You only have(more)
to look at every single womans magazine to realise that all one is 'supposed' to be interested in is whos had a boob job, gained or lost weight, or something else of absolutely no consequence. As for hunting for confirmation of our views I think that has ever been. I wish there were more who could comprehend you become more, not less, by seeing the value in what others have to say.
I honestly don't know. For myself I don't, other than in dentists waiting rooms. I find them mindbogglingly boring. I'm not sure anyone who actually enjoys them could tell you why either. Trying to live up to expectations maybe, to fit in, work out how to be accepted?
Yes, I know. I've done it. I kept trying to post a message to my own comment board and it didn't post. Yup, I'd blocked myself too. I think we creative types can't be bothered with doing clerical stuff. At least that the rationalization I use. Btw I wasn't ducking the favorite celebrity thing, but I have a different one every day. Today for me it's Clifford Pickover and that's just because I'm reading him this morning. Most people in the UK would say Lewis Hamilton today. He seems a good choice

Most Celebrity are people who got a break, sometime having nothing to do with talent or anything else.
On the subject of talent, some people have it and some don't. Is it fair to put the one's who do above the others?
I guess I am not a follower. :-)
Even the people who have made a real difference, could they help what they did? maybe they did not have much choice, maybe it was in their character to do such things. I don't know!
:) Thanks. Glad to have you here, you make some really interesting points.
No, it isn't fair. I do think however that everyone has a talent of some kind, it's just a shame some never get to find theirs, or have ones that are less valued than others.
Glad to hear you're not a follower. Nor me.
I'm not sure about the choice thing. Some are driven to do express themselves, make a difference, others resist.
I am motivated to share my artistic endeavors with the world. I like sharing, but have no real aspirations to become famous or anything (not that any of my stuff is up to that level). All the original music I write I have available for free download for non commercial use.
Makes me happy if other people are entertained by my work, but I would still do it even if people hated it.
I completely understand. I'm exactly the same. I need to do what I need to do. I could actually do with being a bit more motivated by money. I don't even want to be noticed, but I'll take it if that's the price I have to pay for being me.

Another family I have recently is my permaculture design family ( a more holistic
version of landscape design ). I am scared of having mentors, because in a
way I did have a mentor when I was young, and he was an imaginary god (though real at the time). I guess the closest I have to heroes
are Galileo Galilei, Mohandas K. Gandhi,
Martin Luther King, and Thoreau. Sorry for long rant. Am I weird for
experiencing all this?

Both of these people do not want hero worship,
they are seeking to be normal, ordinary. So the
hard core fans respect their privacy. But everyone else goes on line "Oh you're so cute"
which is disgusting. One of the reasons I like the cast and the fans is that they are like a family. I have
been searching for families all my life as
my real one is painful emotionally.
