The add was there because this was a commercial quickly put together. He probably did it between shooting takes on the Beachcombers.
If you noticed, he's reading a cheat sheet below him on the desk.
It was possibly an organization that was close to his heart.

LOL... that was the logo of Variety Club. It was a Circus Ringmaster cracking a whip. Pretty random, never understood the connection myself...
