  • I hope to god that she has lost her senses for a while... how does a decent artist get pulled down to something resembling a "corr's" cover???

  • omg! i totally forgot that they sang this! i aint heard this tune in a koons age!

  • 10k maniacs version minus natalie merchant..

  • mary ramsey's so cute. you gotta love her just how she is =)

  • Sound like the Corrs.

  • Who is that chick?, she is, ....oddly intriguing

  • @reg074 Mary Ramsey

  • Natalie Merchant

  • I never knew 10000 Maniacs de-did this song. Natalie Merchant is actually kind of cute. ;)

  • it's not nathalie merchant. She left 10k maniacs in 1993. This is Mary Ramsey.

  • Oh, duh! That's right. Natalie did a solo career when she left.

  • @HolyRoller478 It's not Natalie Merchant!

  • This version is wooden, hollow and bloody useless

  • Couldn't disagree with you more... so bloody sorry there mate!

  • I LOVE THIS SONG

  • Also, I think this video is truly amazing. The imagery in it is stunning. I used to sketch the various toys and statues.

  • I have to say, I love this version and the Roxy Music version both for different reasons. I think this is one of the few cases where I totally dig both versions and listen to them both frequently. People are always trying to assert that Roxy's is better, but I find that boring. I'm just thankful there are two ways to experience this masterful tune.

  • IMO one of the best songs the maniacs ever did because you didn't have self righteous natalie singing it, nor preaching about some self-righteous PC cause. pluse the new singer had a sexier voice.

  • @jimvrpaze Yeah, there is something sexy there in her voice. Now I got to go back and listen to something from Merchant and see if she had any sex appeal in her voice or not, cannot remember.

  • always liked this version of the Roxy classic. Very nicely done.

  • I was looking for this great version of the song for five years!! Thanks :)

  • This version is so much better than Roxy...wayyyyyyyyy better...this is a fasanating band....no way Roxy BOY could beat this song...

  • This is awesome!

=] Still can't believe this is Alternative Rock.

  • Beautiful version,beautiful woman..great band..what more could you ask for..well..a kiss maybe?

  • yep - truly sublime.

  • Roxy Music's version was the best, but this version is good, too.

It would be interesting though, if Natalie Merchant did a version.

  • esta versión es mas linda que la original de Blondie

  • The Maniacs gave it a good try. This is a beautiful version of this song. But for someone like me who was deeply affected by the band's earlier work, this isn't the Maniacs. The band without Natalie is still very talented, but they're not the same. How I miss them and the impact their music had upon my soul.

  • Well, I feel silly. I thought this was Merchant but in retrospect I don't know why - she does have a distinctive voice. Thank you for pointing out this is the band without her - I don't know all the backstory. etc.... but like to keep it straight.

  • the band was better without self-righteous, preachy natalie.

  • Completely forgot that 10,000 Maniacs tried to go on without Natalie! *scratches head* This one just slipped me.

  • Bonito video...en cuanto a la cancion, me quedo mil veces con la original. Pero bueno. Pasable.

  • very good.....I love this music

  • I like both, she make a good version too

    nice voice

  • un tema para no olvidar , con una banda impresionante!! de alto generosidad musical intagra

  • Brian Ferry's OWN version' s much better

  • She is like an Angel

    But more than this

    She is simply Mary Ramsey

  • this isn't 10,000 Maniacs...not without Natalie Merchant.

call this talented group something else. It's like U2 w/o Bono.

seriously - that's what it's like to fans of the real group.

  • I understand what you're saying, but the group decided to go on without her, so you can't blame Mary Ramsey for that.

I like this song, although I wonder how Natalie would have done with it, too.

  • Garbage!

This was a beauty, and a fitting testament to the late great Rob Buck RIP

  • These guys were just at my college.... played to about 10 people but they were amazing.....ate wings with them and chatted....very cool people

  • betta than da original

  • no way

  • bella canción de 1987 para mi solopara mi

  • She is really pretty. A lovely voice !

  • but the lyrics of the song are a bit scary

  • It was fun for a while.

There was no way of knowing ?

And the other lyrics can keep you guessing. It's a bit scary. I agree.

  • Mary Ramsey is an adorable singer !

  • Brian Ferry original- best version

  • "I could not find the other versions of this, so here we go"

But this version is way better! :)

I was searching for this version, thanks for sharing.

  • tu é linda.Tem uma voz maravilhosa.

  • Actually, Mary's voice sounds sweet and nice. Less nasal than Natalie, the band's lead singer till 1993.

  • hey...i never said it was a bad thing

  • so where did mary ramsey come from?

  • that is one beautiful woman

  • "More Than This" actually is a 1982 single by British art rock band Roxy Music. In 1997, a cover performed by 10000 Maniacs with Mary Ramsey on vocals became a US hit when it reached 25 on US Hot 100. They released this single from "Love Among the Ruins" Album on Geffen Records... (from wikipedia)

  • she scares me....a little....

  • Whoaa. I see what you mean.

  • i love it

  • the video was film at HOUSE ON THE ROCK located in Wisconsin !!

  • Thank you so much for uploading this versión, I love Mary Ramsey, her voice and skin color, the original version maybe a masterpiece but this one is my favorite.

  • you serious? thats cool. she's a cool chick

  • Natalie was my friend when i worked in NY in the city. She would come into the studio to practise.

  • can someone straighten something out for me? I love 10,000 manics but i didnt keep up with the group.

Who was the first singer and who is the latest singer.

  • The original lead singer was Natalie Merchant. The new singer is Mary Ramsey. She has the voice of an angel but she's no Natalie Merchant

  • Original was Natalie Merchant. This is Mary Ramsey.

  • i agree, i think this cover is really nice,i like her voice it's sweet,of course the original it's a CLASSIC!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • I will say she's MUCH cuter than Bryan Ferry, has a nice voice, but the original is a masterpiece. This remake is ok.

  • Are the women sining this version from Ireland? They sound Irish to me, I don't like this as much as the original by Roxy Music.

  • I agree, the original works much better. This is too mechanical.

  • It is the drums or drummer that is the problem. He is just going through the motions. You can tell no one cares about this song. [She could use some sun, too.]

  • I think it's the blue light, in regards to her complexion that is. It's making everyone look dead.

  • Still shallow compared to the original, IMHO

  • I saw her do it live in DC - she is awesome

  • it's not Natalie...Mary Lewis is singing...

  • Roxy Music's is 10000 times better.

  • Natalie looks really skinny!

  • it's not natalie...mary lewis is singing..

  • no one should be trying to do a song that bryan ferry did so well-i saw him at a cinverted roller skating palace/concert hall when i was about 13 and he was fantastic-leave some songs alone please

  • YGBFKM. Not Natalie, and Floyd isn't, without Waters. F'in posers .

  • BAAH THIS SONG REMAKE IS RAPING MY EARS

  • That's not Natalie Merchant, which surprised me. I like the song, though.

  • I like her much much better than Natalie Merchant.

  • This cover's even better than the original...

  • NOTTTT EEEVENNNN!!! This version sounds like...well... to be nice, SHITE!!

  • THAT'S NOT NATALIE!! HOW DARE YOU? Why does it say 10,000 Maniacs and list Natalie in the tags. This woman's caterwalling makes me want to stab pencils in my ears! What have you done with NATALIE MERChANT??

  • AHHHH HAAAA HAAA!!! I laughed out loud!! I could picture you doing this!! Too cool.

  • In reality those platform shoes would kill her at The House on the Rock.

  • Fantastic! Congrats to you Mary Ramsey!

  • this is so prout prout "la vie est belle et les oiseaux chantent" fuckin shit

  • No self respecting musician or artist would try to mimic another intentionally, especially one as great as Nat.

Mary is spectacular in her own right, I love her voice here and anywhere else she has sung.. Keep up the good work Mary!

  • Mary really gave goose bumps with her ethereal singing of the lyric.

Natalie is still the leading vocal for 10,000 maniacs.

But for her replacement Mary was simply the right choice for this song.

    Just love love this version.

  • 10K Maniacs had a lot of potential right after Natalie left in the mid 90's. Mary Ramsey carved out her own style within the group yet you can hear traces where she tries to mimic Natalie. The first 25 seconds of the song there are notes that sound a lot like Natalie. I did see them live in 1997 and Mary definitely tried to sound like Natalie on many of their signature songs. Not bad really.

  • when i was in jail i thought the song was "there is nothing else" and i wrote it in big fancy letters on the wall and drew an awsome mural around it...wish i could have taken a picture of it...i drew a tree and the roots were an island and a guy was fishing off the edge...the words were in the roots...

  • john lombardo is my uncle

  • dont beat mary over the head because shes not natalie! this song was as much a hit for 10000 maniacs as any others. dont get me wrong I love the work natalie did with and without this band, but this song is just beautiful (so stop hating)

  • Her voice soothes me...

  • Closest thing to Roxy Music's version. Good song.

  • bela musica. lindíssima...

  • Good version but Roxy Music version is way better.

  • Great Cover!

  • Excelent Video, Love Marys Voice

  • natalie and bryan forever...all others just a cheap imitation..

  • Great version!!

  • It ain't Roxy Music, but it ain't bad. Rock on.

  • Mary Ramsey is fantastic I love her. Listen to A Room for Everything its amazing!!!

  • Maniacs without Natalie? I had no idea.

  • pretty song, but it doesn't hold a candle to bryan ferry

  • beautiful...

  • Lovely song!

  • i love this song <3

  • ever wanted to watch this clip

  • Good 'ol Youtube! Used to be that we had to sit with our eyes glued to the TV set to catch this video or any others we wanted to see. Now we can view them whenever we want!

  • Great Cover Love this version Thanks for Sharing

  • I like this version better.

  • NINETEEN NINETY-SEVEN

  • OMG....that song only charted at#106 US billboard(wikipedia) when released in 82 by Roxy Music.Underrated Brian....

  • She has a smooth voice and was a good replacement for Natalie, but still, this song is MUCH better with Brian Ferry singing it beautifully.

  • Everything changes. It's nice. It won't ever be the same....so let it go. We've got plenty of the originals to watch. Be cool.

  • FRAUD - wannabes

  • I agree with the others, this is a great cover version.

  • This is all shot at The House on The Rock in Wisconsin. Cool.

  • Natalie Merchant's voice is awesome.

  • This is NOT Natalie Merchant you dumbass!!!

  • sorry rude old man. i didn't get my facts right. now i know it's mary ramsey. thanks for pointing out the mistake though.

  • Yeah no problem nutty ass!! Natalie Merchant is way better, although honestly Mary's voice isn't too bad. See ya later jerky!

  • I was wondering if the Maniacs ever did a version of this with Natalie Merchant. Mary Ramsey is decent but she sounds like she could be swapped out for any other decent singer like an interchangeable part. Natalie Merchant is a totally unique talent.

  • I mostly agree with you. With Merchant both the lyrics and music were good, now just the music is good, although Ramsey's voice is nice. Ramsey played with Maniacs for years (you can see her in the liner notes for "Unplugged") and she has done projects with the former (and back again) John Lombardo (I think Ramsey and Lombardo came as a package deal).

  • I guess you have no idea who Natalie Merchant is?Probably you are too young to know this kind of info.

  • This is making wonder how much better it would sound with Natalie. Mary has a nice, smooth voice but nothing "signature" or memorable about it.

  • good voice for cover and i think it ranks up there with brian's version....

  • I love 10000 Maniacs but I have to say I love Roxy Music's version better.

  • Not a bad cover at all. Of course, the original is still the best.

  • Natalie Merchant is great... Such a creative video! Thanks for posting it.

  • err...

    it's Mary Ramsey

  • lol

  • Greenman Look very carefully next time..LOL!!!..It's Mary Ramsey..

  • Gorgeous tiny chicken machine show is a variation on this theme

  • Glad to see I'm not the only one in the Natalie Merchant "fan club"....I didn't know you could take a Roxy Music song and make it so CRAPtackulous!

  • Bloody dreadful version. Nothing worse than a female vocalist who sings and smiles at the same time.

  • I think this song is better suited for a female singer.

  • I agree

  • Rick Pope

  • Thanks for posting the REAL 10, 000 Manicas version of this! (not the disco version the record company forced on them). Mary Ramsey is great, unlike Natalie Merchant Mary can actually sing in tune. Natalie has a unique voice but to hear that people prefer her to a much better singer is puzzling. Give her a chance. Check out The Earth Pressed Flat or any of the 4 John & Mary CDs!

  • I love this version of the Roxy Music classic song!

  • I'm happy that the Bryan Ferry version was done in the 80's, otherwise we'd of seen a mocha latte pirate circus post modernist mid 90's version which would of been craptacular. Oops.

  • While not Natalie, Mary Ramsey added much to the Maniac's sound - check out "Love Among The Ruins" released in '97.

  • sure ,she does fine

  • sorry but nothing like nataly merchant

  • if she were trying to be nataly , then i'd say than there ain't nothing like nataly , but, ever since she's got her own style I'd say mary is just as good.. don't yah think?

  • Comment removed

  • Thanks, I was confused also...what tipped me off was that Mary's voice is a high range than Natalie's...regardless, a lovely tune

  • What's the name of this singer woman ???

  • ignorante sorry

  • Mary has such a nice, sweet, beautiful and smooth voice!

  • Comment removed

  • That's not natalie Merchant, it's Mary Ramsey

  • mary ramsey! that's her name! thank you! very pleasant song! she's not natalie merchant, but then she's not trying to be natalie merchant. she has her own style of singing that is very pleasing to the ear!

  • WTF is this? I always thought this was Natalie Merchant>Please explain!

  • no, natalie went off to a solo career, and was replaced by mary ramsey (the lovely lady in this video with the sweet voice) if you look at mary, and natalie side by side you can see the obvious differences.

  • Yeah, SteevDragon. I don't know much of Mary's work, just that she's an acomplished violinist and has indeed a sweet voice.

  • 'Avalon' is good in so many ways and gets better with time.

  • You have to give credit to Roxy Music (Bryan Ferry) for this great song. Though this is a nice version I prefer the later.

  • I've loved 10,000 through the 80s and 90s and Bryan in the 80s, but your right, this is good but the older guy takes it

  • The more i hear you, the more i love you!!!

  • this cover sucks!

  • It's not a cover dumbass. Mary Ramsey was the lead singer of 10,000 Maniacs after Natalie Merchant left. Douche.

  • A cover version from Roxy Music's More Than This. Hijo de perra.

  • Go back to your Mom's basement and play some more Guitar Hero sato.

  • It is a cover "dumbass." This is a Roxy Music song from 1982. Douche.

  • The only cover here is the one that should cover your pimply, fat face. Eat some more cupcakes, gordita.

  • The only cover here is the one that should cover your pimply, fat face. Eat some more cupcakes, gordita.

  • hahahaha!!! Cómeme la polla motherfucker!
