Some engines are as much as 50 to 1 mix. The problem is with 2 x stroke engines it takes such a long time for them to clear themselves out. If you get the mix wrong it can take hours and hours of running until it sorts itself out. It needs to burn off any oil that is soaked into carbon deposites inside exhaust for example. Stick the exhaust in a barbeque for a few hous so its really hot. That will do the trick.
Villiers engines are supposed to emit a certain amount of smoke,if they don't,there is trouble ahead because of the lack of oil in the "petroil" mixture. Setting the carb needle is simple,I'm sure steamwally will illustrate the procedure quite clearly in his video.
Was suprissed the exhaust port was so clear, mabey that full speed run the other day cleared it out.....good old Villiers, never wear out lol
I expect there is a lot of oil in the bottom of that exhaust, the other possibility is that it's running far too rich, have you tried re setting the mixture needle height?
@steamwally ive only ever cleaned the carb. It could be running a bit rich. How do you go about adjusting the mix?
I was surprised to see it so clean and in such good shape. I can see a little movement in the rings, so perhaps a replacement set in the future. But for now and for the little use it gets ill leave it like that.

Hi there!
Smoking alot less now,
I reckon you can get away with 32:1 mix
Also i reckon if you give it a lot of work it will clear it out

Sounds good though and not too smokey now.
