Halfthrottle, your name is so descriptive. Listen guy, take my advice: first, remove this video; it's embarassing! Second, take some off-road riding lessons or at the very least, spend some time watching how it's done in motocross races or other videos. Watch how it's done! Get of your buttocks, on the pegs, and throttle a bit more to get you through the puddles. It helps to have knobbies too! C'mon man, upload another video to redeem yourself. Where's the pride?!!
hi there.for sure our man doesn't deal very well abt offroad riding.but the real problem is that gs1200(i own it)got a bad front suspension for dirt use.if you pay attention some seconds before the crash you will see how the front wheel jumps on the rock.
got the some problem on the RUTA 40 in Patagonia.my wife rided a gs 100 pd.traditional front fork.no problem at all!bye bye ps:sorry for my english!
@elego49 I agree but i say go get another bike! BMW's have no place on a road like that! this dude can't ride you gotta start with some speed and stay steady in your throttle but i guess the fact that he drives a BMW off-road says it ALL!!!!
What the bloody hell did he stop for?? Gotta be a newbie novice rider; everybody knows when you come to water....river or mud you get up on the pegs, blip the throttle and moto on through. A classic example of someone who buys a GS and thinks he knows how to ride it. There are more low mileage GS's for sale than any other because once they get on it they quickly find out its way too much motorcycle for them and simply can't handle it. This video is an embarrasses you and you should delete it
Amazing how many people are prepared to make negative comments about someone who is courageous enough to show their falls. It must make them feel bigger or more important. Hope you continue to enjoy your BMW!
Right on Ozzibrown. Don't stop in a creek and then panic. No chain and the strongest bike in the world. From the darkness of a beautiful Afrcian night to the
Aurora, Gs all the way. j
you crazy guys, be safe or youre kill youself. Buy a KTM because it will break before the Gs. By the way, learn to ride, j
Agree with the technique comments and I'm guessing halfthottle has figured all this out by now so it's more for other riders. When you feel the front wheel slipping instead of braking it's better to hold the handles hard to control your front wheel, counter weight to the left on this case and actually increase the the gas for the bike to pull you out. It's a heavy bike and it will take stregnth to handle it. I also wish to thank halfthottle for sharing.
It's not the bike, it's the rider. Notice how when he hit's the hole, his body falls forward pushing the right handlebar forward, this then causes the bike to fall over on the right.
Learning how to keep your feet on the pegs and grabbing the bike with your knees is something we all could improve on.
@docwong you 're right but if he had a more proper off-road bike he wouldn't feel that apprehensive in the first place. I did have the GS both regular and ADV and what I can say is that the front suspension sucks offroad. That being said my KTM adv would have made this crossing much easier even to a novice...
I'm a BMW guy my self.I own 3 BMW'S M ROADSTER.540 I.135I but on cars I'M sure BMW Motorcycle has a great quality.I have 5 motorcycles dirt bikes japanese.but I notice the BMW bikes are not the best on handle cause the are so heavy every single video ON YOUTUBE from BMW bike'S crash .that river will be just nothing on any of my bikes I do it all the time sometimes is little slippery but just balance it.or maybe the rider??no offence
I would ride mt R1 through that river and not crash! You should be standing on the pegs, butt slightly off the seat, 1st gear. That bike is far too beautiful to be taking a drink of water through the airbox
Why? Why stop in the middle? You know not to cross obstacles with your feet down and stop in the middle, right? Get a car and stop thinking you should be around motorcycles, much less make videos of yourself.
Please buy small enduro first, and when you learn hot do drive off road with skill and technik, drive whatever you like wherever you like. But you are still really unexperienced for a GS off road. No offence
cant see why people keep saying "get a wr, get a crf..get a proper enduro bike
we're not stupid, let me see you load up your wrf 450 with two weeks worth of supplies./satnav/water,spares &tools. Then ride the 600 miles on the roads at 70 to 85 mph. you cant..and wont. because they're not designed for it, the gs is designed to be a road biased trailie with offroad capabilities, and in that sense , it works..lets face it most peope who own a gs have enough spare cash to own a small enduro bike.
Don't you worry my friend. I had the exact same experience with my F650GS. I forgot that pebbles get slipery under the water. I couldn't stop laughing!!!!!

Don't you worry my friend. I had the exact same experience with my F650GS. I forgot that pebbles get slipery under the water. I couldn't stop laughing!!!!!
Buddy you need to quit fucking around and paddle footin, make that damn puddle eat shit, barge adn charge, quit trying to be dainty about it and careful to the point of falling down. And another thing, the GS is a damn lie, it is not a dual sport bike, it's a road bike of unsurpassed abilitys, the dirt isn't it's element, it's a farce. It's too damn heavy and no traction with reasonable tires. Mine sinks like a stone on soft ground, I got stuck and thought I was gonna need a wrecker.
Be up on your pegs and keep your weight back in case you find a deep spot. Don't go too fast, but you were traveling a little slow. Stopping in the middle of just about any "challenge" is seldom a good thing to do. And keep your feet on the pegs so you still have them attached to the ends of your legs. Live and learn...
DUDE. this water crosing is for kids. Next time stand up in your pegs and lean back a litlebit and gas it. Realy, i did many water crosings and this one is easy. I did once at LA-Barstow-Vegas rally that 100 ft long and 3 ft deep water cross on my BMW 650 Dakar. i was scared on that one but made it. Have a nice day man ;o)
there's a lot of vids of you crashing lol. but seriously i would buy a klr for the kind of stuff you've been doing in your vids it will be ten times easier and ten times more fun. good luck to ou in the future my man
@halfthrottle i was about to put the same thing till i seen steady2wheels already put it lol KLR's are just tanks! i was going to fast on a trail and slid off a rocky hill and as soon as my buddys helped me pull it back to the road it fired right up and i went on my way. but funny videos lol i watch you wipe out so it makes me feel better when i do it
@steady2wheels I own a KlR and, I will be the first to tell You that they are not all they are cracked up to be. Mine had major engine trouble in the first few thousand miles(luckily still under warranty) and, let's not mention the infamous DOOHICKEY. Don't get Me Wrong the KLR is a fun bike once You rebuild it from stem to stearn and work out all of the many bugs but, to compare them with a GS Adventure would be like comparing a Porsche to a chevette.
@7jocco I know I know, all i said was fo the sort of stuff he was doing, like going through over-sized puddles, i was being padantic. I in no way dislike the gs, in fact I think they are an incredible bike dont get me wrong.
I've got a feeling that after airfare and paying for the off road school, I would have been able to buy a KLR650 for the same price. But I would love to do it someday.
@halfthrottle I had a klr. The only thing I feel it has over the BMW is width (i like to sneak past barriers the BMW sometimes can't) As far as price. That's a pretty personal matter. Some people it's all they can manage to afford after years of can collecting. For others, it's a whimsical purchase made with cash when they see one in front of the dealer. If that bike had broken down off road, I would have left it there.
this is plain ridiculous. EVEN if you had to take this bike that far WHY did you stop? going forward helps a lot... I always laugh when I see BMW R1200gs Adventure off the road - it is always some adventure to pick up the thing. you do not really have to spend that bloody lot to do some workout.
I'm sorry but I have testdriven these bikes and BMW for me has something very strange. They have the best technology but somehow they don't manage to keep up with the top of the world like Jap-bikes.
This terrain isn't THAT hard... if you can't handle this. You should go back to the highway. But even there the R1200GS handles terrible.
@adcurtis The GS is one of if not the finest kinda ride ever built. Mine has 99 thousand miles on it and is still my favorite ride. I eat sport bikes in the twistys and I'm an old fart. I haven't run up on a kid on a sport bike yet that can hang with me, and I make a point of fucking with them if the road is twisty. Sure they can out run me on flat level straight roads, who cares about going straight anyway.
actually it had everything to do with the rider Im no pro but i know your not supposed to stop in the middle of a creek if I had though which I wouldnt I would of known to lean back to go over the bumby part and use my clutch throttle correctly when in doubt gas it but keep your handlebars straight especialy this person made alot of mistakes.yes his TIRES with an I not a Y where wrong for the job but had little to do with him falling.and by the way
Oops, yeah, lost all traction there. I have crap for offroad experience, but was told that keeping the speed up a bit helps. Well, thats what crash bars are for! =)
