  • You know I was just thinking about when I saw this video on German Satellite TV (WDR) when I was a kid and how they were both such awesome versions of the song.

I was so happy that searching for "rem the apologist" took me here. Thanks for uploading it!

  • I had never heard this one, and dang... Its a better day that I have. My hats off to you, for this gem.

  • Thanks for sharing these man, much appreciated.

  • thank you for being there for me thank - you for listening good-bye

  • the apologist is one of THE strongest songs....

  • The whole UP album is soo underrated...

UP is a masterpiece, it doesn't have the hit potential of Automatic for the People but the songs are much more refined.

  • @Adriansh3r0

Up is mysterious - as R.E.M. should be, and always have been!

  • Yeah, that's it, it's mysterious. Every album has its strong points (like Monster, it's so full of vigor and energy) ;

but UP just is so atmospheric, vulnerable and complete as an album.

Ppl always talk about Ok Computer as the masterpiece of the 90's but imo Ok should share a first place with UP ;)

  • @Adriansh3r0

    couldn't agree with you more...simply a masterpiece

  • @Adriansh3r0- Agreed! Though Automatic was hardly bursting with "hit potential" IMHO.

Don't get me wrong, it's a wonderful, emotionally affecting album - but let's be honest - for an album chock-full of slow ballads/dirges about death, mortality and the elderly, it was a commercial success almost *despite* itself.

There's some great songs on Up but I believe the glossy compressed over-production let it down, no pun intended.

  • @Adriansh3r0 I really like the Apologist...this album uses a similar palette to Radiohead's Kid A (which became huge 2 years later...just better timing I guess). R.E.M. have always been ahead of the curve (well, they set the curve, so it has to be this way) and because of that they sometimes have been lost in the noise that's in vogue.

  • r.e.m. sul tetto del mondo

  • belle belle belle!!!!
