I read a servery back around 2004 that stated that 90% of all persons that were recruited within that last 2 years joined because of financial hardship. If I find it again I'll post it. It makes sense, no one in their "right mind" joins to military in hopes that they can shoot a person in the face. Had this been a place that stood for the things that it claim to offer the world, maybe ppl would join for the love of the country once again. Damn shame - my advice, don't join AT ALL...

Secondly, this guy isn't some upstanding patriot, he said it himself, he joined for the materialistic benefits of military service. free college isn't the right reason to sign up. also, it's pretty clear when you sign up that unmarried couples don't get benefits, i can't understand why he thought they did.

If you read Joshua Key's book, you'll realize he was lied to at every step of the way, from the day he went into the recruiters offices to deploying in Iraq. All solders understand that one of the most courageous acts anyone in the Armed Forces can complete is to tell an Officer, "No Sir, I wil not". If justified, history has honored those with such courage. Many only have the respect of those they fought with, some have been jailed, some later justified. In 1998 three soldiers were awarded with medals for their intervention in the My Lai Massacre, it took 30 years!
Do you know how many soldiers don't believe that this war is a justified war yet still fight? THAT is being more of a coward than fighting for an illegal cause. If we all fight for things we don't believe in then where does that leave humanity? Just a few power hungry men get to decide whats right and whats wrong for the world. How sad.
