its ashame they dont rebuild it to be honest but they rather waste money on crap we dont need im born n bred in herne bay my nan use to live in 17 reculver drive and her back garden use to back of to the beach so u had a veiw of the sea 24/7 it was nice to chill to i do miss my nans house :-(
i was at herne bay last month my family lived there for 200 years! 51 charles street! and my uncle still does its graet to see the old pier! if you know the name "Bob Bill Tim Sandy or Drew, Wilkie or Gammon" please get in touch!!!
Thanks for this. Nanna (in service near pierhead) skinnydipped nearby in 1908-13. I boarded the Medway Queen from there in summer 1963, and saw the sea freeze over in the winter before. I scuba-dived the pierhead around 1990 and found a teapot dropped by cafe girls. There was a dragon in the water at the end, or so we thought.
As a boy in 1963 I was taken on the final voyage of the Medway Queen from Southend to Herne Bay and back.. There is some other footage on youtube of the pier and the Medway Queen. Search for a film called "French Dressing"
I only knew Herne Bay after the pier was wrecked. I was told they had to stop a demolition squad from using HE. after someone noticed that a 12inch rivett had been driven deep into the wall of a house on the seafront from a blast!
I pretty sure that was Margate Pier, it was deemed unsafe however to demolition firms went bust trying to destroy it and even the Army had to stop for the reason you gave.
This was Hernebay Pier ...Its a shame the two points no longer meet ..Who Knows one day they may be able to repair it ....The Wind Farm looks great though ..Some thing old for something New i guess
How beautiful this little film is. It is as triste as the town itself. It brings back memories of M.Field, French boys and French kisses behind the beach huts. Love Lionface
yea those where the daze ' off round to Vinces place for a smoke then down to the pier hotel for a skinfull

I LOATHE the wind farm. The only time I'm happy is on a misty or foggy day when you can't see the pseudo-ecological eyesore.
