Beautifully sung. Her performance compares quite favorably with those of Callas, Sutherland, and Sills. Unlike Netrebko, who simply butchers the role.
@Masteroftheopera...... I agree to disagree. Why? Number one June Anderson has had no formal period ( well not the way Callas and Sutherland did in music conservatories) and yet she was (and kind of is) a huge bel canto exponent. And number two her Desdemona, Gilda, and Leonora are timeless. In my mind her lack of trill is the major flaw in her renditions.
@MastersoftheOpera -- I disagree entirely, having seen her peform both Violetta and Gilda live and having found her very well suited for those roles and her singing quite "expressive." There is more than one type of "expressive" singing, as demonstrated by the list you yourself reference: Callas, Moffo, Sutherland and Sills reflected many differences in expression.
June had some great roles - Lucia, Sonnambula, Mozart's Konstanza, Marguerite in Faust, etc. Her bel canto technique was glorious. But she had no Verdi training & as such couldn't sing Violetta. This performance finds her in better shape but she really is no Violetta when you compare the expressive singing of Callas, Moffo, Sutherland & Sills. Also, that colorful almost punk outfit! She looks like Madonna in a 1986 concert
She's really one of the very fee singers in modern times that sang (sing) the coloratura LEGATO... Sutherland, Callas, and June. She did not "Inflate: her sound. So, she looses some warmth in the top G, A, Bb, but that is also why her Acuti are SPECTACULAR. It's a natural sound. I value that a great deal.
I certainly hope she doesnt run all over the stage....it's a concert performance.
Nice high Cs and Eb. I agree somewhat with ezayitas, there is an uncertainty at times in the upper-middle voice, the passagio, especially ascending the scale quickly.
Absolutely astounding. She is one of the best undoubtedly. Beautiful singing, but more than that is her expression. You can hear the emotions in her singing. It doesn't take her running around stage overacting to tell what she is feeling. Her voice however...still is the big pull. She sounds marvelous in the middle with an extraordinary top.
Don´t get me wrong, I like her voice very much but precisely the feeling in her voice or gestures is exactly what was always missing. For me the best of her voice is middle low to low and high... cause there´s something strange going on between middle C and B flat.

No one could place an Eb with such pin-point accuracy quite like Anderson.

I don't know if I consider her a DRAMATIC coloratura, but that aside, her legato, placement, pitch, and dynamic interpretation are all flawless.

One of few singers with veeeeeeeeeeeeeery good legato...and the voice so free and projecting, besides having a beautiful timbre.

Praticamente perfetta, qui e per questo pezzo (a parte i legati degli ultimi gorgheggi, per cercare il pelo nell'uovo).

Her looks make for a convincing Violetta.

This is perhaps the best version I've seen her do. Lovely.
