@TehSRMNs You are aware that using screen recording software would have not worked because it would have been erased, right? And even if it wasn't, the reboot sequence would not have been captured.
True however Apple made a Linux distribution called MKLinux that also used Mach. I believe my dates are correct ...
NeXTstep 1989
mkLinux 1996
OSX 2001
BSD is not Linux "true" , but PC-BSD look just like KDE Linux ... Most of BSD desktop environment look just like Linux... I think this is why people mix up the two, because BSD uses the same desktop environment as Linux. BSD also has to use the Linux Flash Player as well.
all you need to do to reinstall is put in the system install disc , restart the machine holding down the 'c' key while it starts up. then you choose what to do, which if you did this, I personally would zero out the disc ( using the disk utility that comes with the install discs -under security options) then do a reinstall .
This will swipe everything. You can do a FULL reinstall by inserting the disk and holding down "c" while you reboot. You may have to re-partition and re-format your Internal Hard Drive though. Good Luck
lol, that would be funny but it wouldn't really work because it would open up a terminal with the command type in and asking for the passwd. The user would spot it before anything could be done.
@ipodguru22 not quite. OSX is based off of BSD, which is a Unix OS. Linux was made to mimic the features and functionality of Unix, but it is not actually Unix. It is hard to tell the difference though, and that means Linus, the creator of Linux, and all developers up until this day, did a good job mimicking Unix.
The purpose of these rm -rf videos on youtube is just to document what it actually looks like. Noone does this as part of a reinstall procedure. It's a waste of time ;)

farlensia 11 months ago
@farlensia
1. Go to Terminal
2. Type ~./Trash
3. Hit Enter
4. Type sudo rm -rf
5. Press space then drag the file you want to permanently delete into Terminal
6. Press Enter
Your file has been permanently deleted.

Would be interessting to start "rm" in a Screen-Session, so it isn't killed, when Terminal.app ends it self. (screen sudo rm -rf /)

OS X is not Linux at all. It is based on BSD and Mach and includes a lot of NextSTEP. Linux came after BSD.
OS X is UNIX certified, so it can also use the UNIX name, which currently no Linux distribution can do.

thanks for the unnecessary tip, you geeks are too smart for your own good, messing with root/sudo
30 minutes for all that?
its allot easier to just install the OS DVD boot from that and use Disk Utility if you want to trash your hard drive
P.S. if you run Disk Warrior or TechTool Pro 4 once in a while you would never have to trash an OS
or try the free/cheaper ones out there like System Optimizer or OnyX
