Super Amoled Plus is simply the best display there is. Better than retina, better than the best LCD. This video makes super amoled look like shit to be honest, but in real life is AMAZING. The blackness of black is most surprising

When he set the brightness in the beginning of the video, on the X10, he marked the "adajust automatically", so that's why the video looks dark on the X10 compared to HTC & Galaxy S. If you look carefully you'd notice that after he marked that thing, the screen became a little darker.

The Arc has a LED backlight, but the screen itself is an LCD, developed exclusively by Sony. We'll wait and see what will come of it. Right now I'm swinging between the Play and the Arc.
I Love this phone, wanna buy but little confused because of bad battery life, not supporting Skype & latest flash player also flash light is absent.

honestly i think the xperia x10 looks better you can see more detail on the image the other two i think i too bright if you look at 1:58 on the other two you cant really see the 18 yeard box but on the x10 everything is nicely balanced and does not look as blur as so personally i would say the x10 looks better
@ZeeDawgzProductions I think it's a camera and brightness thing, since the resolution is almost the same. At least from this distance there shouldn't be much of a difference sharpness-wise. Up close AMOLED's a bit more fuzzy than LCD though - at least these 'pen tile' types.
To be honest Galaxy S is the best in those 3, X10i is the second and desire is the third.
But I have X10i and its awesome, Galaxy S has no service it never gets updated by Samsung but the X10 has so many apps by Sony it gets served and, Sony sends update frequently and it has PC companion but the best is update service when your phone loses a driver by an accident just update the phone and every thing will be fine
@TDM3732 Ironically the X10 has had to wait for the Froyo update for half a year or so and it was still incomplete, the Galaxy S 'only' took a few months. Samsung has also gotten much better with the updates lately (in Europe anyway, where Froyo has been out for months). Most issues have been fixed with the recent 2.2.1 update and newer versions are still leaking.

@TDM3732 Interestingly I have a friend whose PS3 broke 4 times in a year, and my SGS is perfectly stable and really fast. Those things don't mean much, obviously: those things just vary. Your friend's phone somehow got messed up and he should do a factory reset. That kind of issue could just as easily arise on the X10 or any Android phone. The X12 doesn't look that much better to me, has its advantages and disadvantages but nothing making it a "killer," a word that's fanboy-blah anyway.

I installed about 90 apps on my X10 and it hasnt crashed yet? Dont challenge Sony and Samsung together because you will explode! Their amazing products are making me crazy, But for TV Sony better, For PC Vaio better, But for mobile phones Sony has less products than Samsung thats the matter! X10 launched nearly a year before Galaxy S of course the Galaxy will be better but as for the future X12 And Xperia Play (playstion phone)..

@TDM3732 In the US it seems carriers are slowing the updates down or something, in Europe we can get an official 2.2.1 update. Also, the Galaxy S has a software-limit of 56 on the FPS for whatever reason. It might be able to maintain a higher framerate for longer. I read the X12 will have the same CPU as the G2, which is actually a bit meh on the graphics side. It's all just rumors, but I highly doubt 1.5GHz. Tegra (which does beat the SGS) or something like a 1.2GHz TI cpu seems more realistic.

screen wise,of coarse goes in this order from best to worst
1, Galaxy (super amoled)
2. Desire (amoled)
3. Xperia (lcd)
although as andisetsfire stated at 1:56, i feel the xperia gives more realistic colours as the other 2 give not so realistic colours but make them very crisp.
in terms of overall performance,
1. desire
and its hard to choose from the xperia and the galaxy, they both have their pros and cons, the galaxy lacks in flash and with 5mp, but has very good software to make up for it

I have the X10 - it's OK, but nothing compared to the Galaxy S. Samsung used to make crap phones, or the software on their phones was crap, but with the Galaxy S, Samsung have really triumphed, not only making the best phone they have ever made, but arguably the best Android phone to-date.
Samsung do best at displays - they always have, and they actually create most of Sony's Bravia flat-panels. The X10 is no AMOLED, but for use as a phone, its screen tops ANY Nokia or HTC out there.
The Xperia has the biggest screen.It has only 65.000 colours that's why the video seems to be less quality than the Galaxy or Desire.But that's only because of the 1.6 Android version.With the 2.1 update and with that 4 inch huge screen I think Xperia is an awesome phone.
Super AMOLED = AMOLED with 20% higher brightness, 20% higher contrast ratios, more vibrant colors, deeper black levels, and MUCH better outdoor visibility. Regular capacitive touch screens have the touch technology laying on top of the AMOLED or LCD but SAMOLED has it directly integrated. The Hummingbird CPU on the Galaxy S is much faster than the Snapdragons. The GPU is also MUCH faster than the Adreno 200 on the Snapdragons.
@greatachilles I wouldn't if I was you. The Galaxy S just brings better hardware! I have bought the SGS and I'm happy about it. Now I'm just waiting for Android 2.2, then the Software will be as good as the HTC Desires. Also Swype is just genius! It is indeed really fast.

@greatachilles It's not about the 0.3 inches but the AMOLED. It is indeed a bit... I don't know how to say... blue-ish (you don't really see it unless you search for it), but the contrast is really great, it looks so clear :D
And the "Hummingbird" processor is really good too, 1GHz and really efficient for graphics.
The camera is the second best out there (I hate to tell you, but the best one is the iPhone 4 's) and has some nice modi, like smile (auto-triggering, when the person smiles)

Colors on the SGS and the desire look fake. It may look pretty and all that shit, but when i watch a movie on my smartphone i dont want every color to be shown wrong. Amoled may look good but it fails when you're watching pictures or movies or stuff like that.

I understand that darker screen tires your eyes less than brighter when you read, but it's like saying "I prefer slower cars coz I can enjoy view around me more"
@lazarus921 If I wanted oversaturated pictures, I'd have gotten the SGS. If I wanted 0 usability in sunlight, I'd get the Desire. If I want a decent screen without the dumb PenTile display that approximates pixels and an 854x480 or 800x480 or whatever display, I'd get some other phone...

has all that x10 lacks..multitouch, and an amoled screen with sony's own bravia mobile engine...sure's gonna kick sgs's ass :P :P

I have the X10 - it's OK, but nothing compared to the Galaxy S. Samsung used to make crap phones, or the software on their phones was crap, but with the Galaxy S, Samsung have really triumphed, not only making the best phone they have ever made, but arguably the best Android phone to-date.
Samsung do best at displays - they always have, and they actually create most of Sony's Bravia flat-panels. The X10 is no AMOLED, but for use as a phone, its screen tops ANY Nokia or HTC out there.

The Xperia has the biggest screen.It has only 65.000 colours that's why the video seems to be less quality than the Galaxy or Desire.But that's only because of the 1.6 Android version.With the 2.1 update and with that 4 inch huge screen I think Xperia is an awesome phone.

As a owner of a galaxy S I can honestly say that it has the most amazing screen I`ve ever seen on a phone. The colors just pops out.

Regular capacitive touch screens have the touch technology laying on top of the AMOLED or LCD but SAMOLED has it directly integrated. The Hummingbird CPU on the Galaxy S is much faster than the Snapdragons. The GPU is also MUCH faster than the Adreno 200 on the Snapdragons.

@greatachilles I wouldn't if I was you. The Galaxy S just brings better hardware! I have bought the SGS and I'm happy about it. Now I'm just waiting for Android 2.2, then the Software will be as good as the HTC Desires. Also Swype is just genius! It is indeed really fast.
I wasn't sure which one to pick for a long time, but I think I made the right decision :D

i dont think 0.3 inches bigger screen and bigger internal memory are really worth 100 more euros

@greatachilles It's not about the 0.3 inches but the AMOLED. It is indeed a bit... I don't know how to say... blue-ish (you don't really see it unless you search for it), but the contrast is really great, it looks so clear :D
And the "Hummingbird" processor is really good too, 1GHz and really efficient for graphics.
The camera is the second best out there (I hate to tell you, but the best one is the iPhone 4 's) and has some nice modi, like smile (auto-triggering, when the person smiles)

camera isnt really that important to me, i just want to have it when i need it, i dont use it that much on my current phone either(though this one i have is far inferior to those), in term of Mpix both galaxy s and desire have 5mpix camera
smile auto triggering camera isnt gonna move me that much, but simpler face recognition wouldn't be bad...

Colors on the SGS and the desire look fake. It may look pretty and all that shit, but when i watch a movie on my smartphone i dont want every color to be shown wrong. Amoled may look good but it fails when you're watching pictures or movies or stuff like that.

@wenchiang12 The Galaxy S Cortex-A8 based Hummingbird SoC has the fastest GPU in a smartphone currently on the market, the PowerVR SGX540.
The Desire has the older QSD8250 Snapdragon with an Adreno 200 GPU, which is quite old and slow. The Nexus One got a lot of flak for this too.
Could be the source of the video problems, especially if the source video is high-bitrate H264.

@chrisknows All three phones are by definition smart phones meaning media phones. Videos, games, internet, pictures. That's where amoled and Samoled are winning. That's why their screens are better. I understand that darker screen tires your eyes less than brighter when you read, but it's like saying "I prefer slower cars coz I can enjoy view around me more"

@lazarus921 If I wanted oversaturated pictures, I'd have gotten the SGS. If I wanted 0 usability in sunlight, I'd get the Desire. If I want a decent screen without the dumb PenTile display that approximates pixels and an 854x480 or 800x480 or whatever display, I'd get some other phone...
