  • I think you shouldn't have allowed comments.

  • I own a Ridgeback - they do a good job doing the job they were meant for. Mine has treed four Black Bears and warned me of the close aproach of a Cougar. She is absolutely fearless - and she responds exactly in this manner when she confronts Bear or Cougar Ridgebacks aren't bred to attack, but rather to "bay" - whereby they hold or tree the animal they are hunting.

To allow one's pet to act in this manner towards another person (without a good reason) is irresponsible in the extreme.

  • there's no doubt this owner doesn't have control of her dogs...its illogical to conclude that all Ridgebacks are dangerous based on this encounter. My Ridgeback cross Kelpie (Kelpie is a sheep herding dog) lets my two year old (terrible twos) niece sit astride him like a horse, she hits him and pulls his tail and not once has he even looked like responding in anger. Temperament and control are strongly influenced by the owners attitude to training. Watch Best In Show if you don't agree with me:)

  • Their tails are wagging, 'nuff said.

  • @astron741 Apparently, not enough learned. Tail wagging is not a sign they are playing or something. Dogs wag their tail, angry or happy. It doesn't matter.

  • @votumseparatum1 Not true. They wag their tail if they are dealing with the level of fear or anxiety at a satisfactory level. A low tail means they are fearful or threatened and thus more likely to attack. These dogs were alert, but with a wagging tail there was no chance of an attack.

  • @DancinJim Attention!! a wagging tail it's NOT a ensurance that the dog won't attack!

A dog can wag his tail and still attack! Of course if his tail is wagging there are less chances to attack, but that doesn't give you 100% ensurance....in fact, there are plenty of cases of dogs attacking (and sometimes killing) with his tail wagging, so....

  • @RubasJLeone Twat. Re-read my comment. Essentially you re-wrote what I said in a slightly different way/slant, to get your agenda across.

  • @DancinJim no, you said "with a wagging tail there was no chance of an attack"...twat

  • @RubasJLeone Yes, so in this context, I am right. Twat.

  • @DancinJim you know what...that's ok...(facepalm)

  • I saw the original feed on this video. I own and love Ridgebacks, but am a responsible pet owner. These dogs should not be off leash. You can hear a female calling to them as well, and they do not respond and are not voice trained.

Whoever owns these dogs does neither them nor the breed any service.

  • Comment 2 of 2: I own four 'pit bulls' and NONE of my dogs would ever do this! These dogs are lucky this man didn't have a gun because he would have EVERY right to shoot both these animals in the head. (Unless, of course, he is in their yard which DOESN'T seem like the case.) Their owner should be ashamed and keep their dogs UNDER CONTROL.

  • @MPolewka That's because your dogs do not possess the skills or inbred instincts that ridgebacks possess. Your dogs are bred simply to fight. The man would have had no right to shoot them, as they are not harming anything or anyone. Until they bite him (which clearly was never going to happen), they are not doing anything wrong. They are simply being true to their breed's nature.

  • What would make you think these dogs AREN'T dangerous??? If this is a public park (god forbid this man's own yard!), WHY are these aggressive dogs off leash??? They are a huge liability and danger to society! What if that was a little kid that tried to run from these dogs? They would have attacked! The only reason why these aggressive dogs DIDN'T attack this man was because they are actually wimps and won't attack someone head on. If he had run, the poor man would have been attacked.

  • ridgebacks in fact are not mean dogs at all. They are very nice if treated with respect and loved and cared for, and yes all dogs are but these ones are nice to coudl with

  • I read the original thread. I think the uploader said he was in his own garden. True or not I don't know.

  • Of course the RR is a dangerous dog, all dogs are. Especially big ones. Dangerous doesn't necessarily mean bad, just that it's capable of hurting a human being. Which it is.

  • @slaskvask a plank of wood is dangerous and capable of hurting a human. Every fricking animal by your line of reasoning is capable of hurting humans. Anyway these dogs are not being aggressive, that much is sure. I've had a ridgeback and I can tell you that if a Ridgebacks intent was to attack you this is not how they would be reacting.

  • very inteligent dogs

  • was this taken in croxteth country park
