Emil was the best of his era but I doubt he could run a 2 hour flat marathon--but I am sure he would break 2:09 with modern training and diet. His strength would be his power and grit but his body weight and speed are less than Haile G of Ethiopia.
i love zatopek and all but he could only run a 13:57, which was his pr, the world record for the 5k is 12:37 by an Ethiopian, a full minute and twenty seconds, and you are saying he could break two hours for a marathon, no way, he would not stand a chance against frank shorter, bill rodgers or alberto salazar in the marathon
Emil Zatopek was the greatest distance runner ever. He didn't even train for the 1952 Helsinki marathon, he trained for the 5K and 10K, and entered the Marathon only because Czeckoslovakia couldn't afford to send more runners. He broke the Olympic record in all three events. Show me a runner who can do that today....5K, 10K, and Marathon. He had never even run a marathon before!
to say that he could run under two hours is a bit of a stretch, to say that is to say our generation is weak, and I'll be damned to ever say that I am weak
Amazing

The best. No drugs. No help. Sheer talent and will power. He would run under 2 hours for the marathon nowadays
