  • Great man!! Thanks! :-)

  • This is a GREAT video. Even my non rail fan friends and my girlfriend enjoyed it. I too am a fan of UP Steam. Oh to be able to time machine back to those days!! At Fairplex in LA county, we have Big Boy 4014 and the only surviving 4-12-2, No. 9000. These great engines were condemed before their time and today might find a new life being able to use alternative fuels like coal, gas, and even used motor oil. They deserve a second chance.

  • Beautiful video! I love the music! but man i would have given anything to live back in those days see all those glorious steam beauts running!

  • Marvelous. I only wish this film could be converted using "Hollywood money" to pull the full richness from it. As I say, that's only an "I wish...." It's fabulous as it is and clearly was shot in the 1947-52 period due to the number of 9000's still running from Cheyenne and the early use of two-tone gray paint on the first series 800's before they received smoke lifters. Marvelous, all. THANK YOU for sharing!

  • Your video is a must-see for every UP fan. The 844 still loses grip on the rails every now and then, especially when it's wet. Thanks for creating this video and posting!

  • It's too bad that as a nation we throw away perfectly good technologies. By the middle and late 40's, the steam engine was on the verge of an incredible leap forward. Indeed my favorite engines are the Pennsy T-1s and Q-2s duplex drives. And lets not forget the S-1 Turbin of which there was one and only one. If furthur development of steam had been allowed to continue, we might still be mainline steam on the rails. I do have my dreams.

  • Excellent!!!

  • Just so you know there trainkids, the first 20 UP 4-8-4's(F-E-F1, #'s 800-819) had 77 inch drivers w 24 1/2inch diam. 32 inch stroke cylinders delivered w single stack 1937-1938 known as the "Small 800's", the F-E-F 2's( #'s820-834) delivered w double stacks and 80" drivers w 25x32inch cylinders in 1939-41, F-E-F 3's (#'s835-844)delivered w double stacks and 80" drivers also 25x32 inch cylinders in late 1944. as stated in the book The Mighty 800 by Wm. W Kratville. courtesy of UPHS member 4043

  • Very nice buy. And a very interesting video. And nice music as well.Regards

  • Very nice!!!

  • I enjoyed those slow shots @ 7:00/7:48 on the youtube video timer

  • Wonderful video from a better day...just think if it were today, the U.P. would have problems with there " Carbon Footprint" - what a crazy world.....

Thankyou for this fine work, Conrail6370!

  • Well bless Mr. Parks for all the hard work in documenting these great scenes. Damn awesome engines.

  • Classic steam footage RULES!!!! But you got some facts wrong. UP had 105 challengers and the last one was built in 1944 and, UP northerns had 80 inch drivers and the big boys were 132 feet long(counting the tender)

  • Trainkid: this information came from Sam Parks who worked as a film photographer for the UP, I think he knows what he was talking about.

    Len.

  • I'm serious dude!!! Don't believe me? look it up on wikipedia

  • Look, I have books on the UP, and they even say what Mr. Parks is saying is true. don't belived every thing you read in Wikipedia. it's put in there by any one, who has acount.

    Len.

  • well i have videos about the 3985, 844, and the big boys and they say the same things i'm saying

  • Well all I can say , is just enjoy the video. you'll never see thoses Giants run again, except for 3985 and 844.

    Len.

  • I think your northern info is off 844 has 80" drivers

  • My thanks to you. What a great look back.

  • Great VIdeo our famous steam era! I think UP is on the top of all railfan that keep their heritage at live.

  • kk nice video

    5/5

  • Damn I wonder why they used to break the rails!

  • Well you just saw your answer. :)
