The best way to land is doing an ILS approach, and then turn off the Auto Pilot and flare the plane yourself. Then Youll get it perfect every time! :)
Good video im a real world pilot and this is a good way to get started. I would like to add that I see a lot of ppl on approach already flying at landing speed with the nose high, this is a big no no not only are u unable to see the runway but the plane is flying almost at stall speed and the controls of the plane are dumbed very dangerous. The plane should be at landing speed right at the inner marker no sooner if ATC says go around the plane will have enough speed to climb right away
@Ram256PL just reduce throttle and make sure you get the speed high enough so you wont stall and at the same makes sure it's fast enough so that you won't land before the runway, keep an eye on your altitude and decent rate. You can also use the " [ " key to open a new view in your upper left corner and then you change the view to spot view. So therefore u can see your aircraft's actual slope and from the cockpit you can control the descent rate ;)
@MrLOMPST99 Go to your local store and pick up the DVD. If there is a sales revenue after all these years, maybe Microsoft will get back the creators of FSX to make a sim like FSX v2 or something..
@iammdeepak you look at the center line. if its straight your lined up. if it goes left to right your to far right and vise versa... practice in small aircraft before you transition to jets.
Did you take the flying lessons in the game when you first started Flight Simulator? I'm still learning how to use the Cessna 172 and using all it's instruments. I barely know how to use default Boeing 737-800 and when it comes to payware add-ons it makes it harder. All I can do is fly and takeoff but I don't know how to use the ILS or land properly. I always crash and it says "Don't sink! Don't sink!" which annoys me so much. Please help.
@Cessna154 Hi cessnaguy, what kind of steering wheel/joystick do you use? do you use pedals and any other accessories? What do you recommend for me? I'm like a beginner. and i'm only 13 so i can't afford >1000€ joysticks and stuff. check w.w.w aviationmegastore c.o.m for me for what i could use, please? (: I learn very much from your vids keep on doing it!
I've always wanted to know, how do line up aircraft up to runway, because whit out GPS or any other helper...It's quite ruff...I'm quite sure that the real pilots, who are piloting the plane realisticly...using these sort of things to? And, are they or these things incorrect in real life too?
@Thecorrupation To be honest the job of an airline pilot is easy. Modern jetliners basically fly themselves. Real airline pilots never have to manually land their aircraft. They use radio frequency and autopilot to land their aircraft basically. You can also use these systems in flight simulator for easy landigns on airports that have ILS
@mikesegaline No, an airline pilot's job is not easy. As with any profession that requires extensive education airline pilots are paid for what they know, not what they do. Setting an autopilot is easy. Knowing what to do and executing those procedures if the autopilot and 20 other things quit working isn't.
Dude, that's one of the most open ended questions you can ask. That is like asking "How do I live better?" Practice is the only way to become better at ANYTHING. Read the manuals, watch others, and try different techniques. Also, the controllers your using is a big part of how well you fly. A cheap joystick will make things much harder than if you have a high-end yoke and foot pedals. Same thng with the software. Buy addon aircraft and scenery too.
@sixstringfretter i buyed already a pro yoke stuff and addons but my landings are gonna be better and better i watched much tutorials of fsx and now my landings are pretty nice :D
i dont really mind using the ils, just started learning to do vor flying so right when i see the runway i disconnect and do it manually, more challenging in my oppinion until i can do it manually without it XD
Hi when I come in for a landing in any plane I always find myself falling short of the runway and ending up in the woods or in someones back yard could anyone possibly tell me what I am doing wrong?
@VlogDaleVlog Yeah, Don't kill your throttle before the runway keep it on untill you fly over the run way than kill it to idle. Also, make sure you are high enough to glide over the runway, if your gonna fall, shoot up your throttle and go around. Remember, dont go full flaps when your far out from the runway and dont flare to early. flare when your gliding over the runway. thats just for beginners so you will get the hang of it and make adjustments as you get better.
That was really good! But the hard bit is actually getting it in the centre of the runway and keeping it there... Everytime i line my aircraft up it always seems to want to drift away, so i'm having to correct it! You'rs just looked nice and fairly straight as well!!
@TheDiego1255 Depens on how fast or slow you're going. The faster, the greater your descent rate. THe slower, the small your descent. But taking a typical jet like this ine, a typical landing speed will be 140 knots, so that equals to about 700feet per minute. ;-)
@richygambs321 Dude your right. I never thought of the speed. I thought you could gimme \ simple answer like -500:P Im totally dumb when it comes to this kinda thinking. Anyway cheers a lot mate you made my life simpler :)
@TheDiego1255 Sure ;) A descent rate of about 500 feet per min would equal a speed of about 100 knots. Please note that the descent rate required to keep on the glideslope also depends on the glideslope gradient of the runway, so values do vary. Lol if you understand what i mean.
I checked the B737 cruise speed in the reference page and the speed was something like 457 kn. Why do I get Overspeed when I go over 300kn. Is it just different measurements or is there something wrong? Please help.
@uuuserunknown 457 knots is the true air speed (also known as TAS). It's the speed of the aircraft compensated for temperature and altitude, and is equal to the ground speed if there is zero wind. The airspeed indicator gives indicated air speed (IAS). At low altitudes IAS is almost equal to TAS. At high altitudes, TAS is bigger. So climb to 35,000 feet and you'll be able to do 450kts ground speed with just 200kts or so of airspeed :)
Coulde you make a vid/lead me to one, that teachers the basics of buttons and/monitors(as many as possible) on a jet(any). I a beginner and enjoyed this, thanks.
My landings are the first one lol, but instead of finally landing i over shoot , so i thought you know what, ill splah some cash and buy a joystick and throttle, fuck, i do the same but i finally land right at the end, at least i do land now lol
bro u 4got one more thing 2 add when doing the visual approach..... always remb 2 look ahead of the runway when landing tt way u will be able 2 gauage the approach n also remb 2 idle the throttle once u have passed the threshold of the runway....
But anyways it ws a really informative video.......
Well as you've show the GPS is just used for keeping the aircraft on the right path leading to the runway ,right ? Or have you turned on the navigation tab to GPS ?
And how do you control the altitude and stuff ? what technique do you use to estimate the required descent rate so that the plane exactly lands on to the landing zone or whatever it is called .
And is keeping the runway at a relative fixed point on the dashboard the only way to keep the aircraft lined up during the Final ?
Hey i just wanted to know that , if i wanted to fly a plane in real life , is this game the same as real life i know its kinda a dumb question but please reply dude
as a private pilot i can tell you that there's a big difference between flying in FSX and real life. FS is good in system simulation and can help you with the basics, but especially for landing and other stuff (like slipping, stalling etc) FS isn't too close to reality - at least concerning the standart plane. If you get addon-planes it's abit different.
@prohacker32 practice the same procedures in the sim that you learn in actual flying and it will help you out. Unfortunately being a good stick in the simulator won't really help you much in real life because you won't feel the different forces acting on the aircraft and everything is done from a different perspective(sitting at a desk). Like blub said it helps with the basics.
It does have a little to do with talent, but real pilots go through a particular trained process using atc coordinates. Airlines dont rely on a pilot's pure talent as much as they do a routine. The pilot is preparing to land far before he/she even gets close to the airport. Everything a pilot does in the routine can be done with FSX.
The problem is for me, that i cant turn correctly, i ether turn too much or dont turn enough to line up and the n ipretty much los control. Please advise.
when i pull up for manual i lose my confidence becamy landing speed is about 140 use i think that my plane is going to start climbing again i allways make shure im going the right speed i usualy fly the 757 my landing speed is about 140 or 130 am i doing anything wrong please help best regards 757captainFSX
@redfoxarts yes, but unless your computer has PS3 like gaming characteristics, you won't get scenery and graphics that well. non the less its a lot of fun if you know what your doing!
@FlightSim2004COF No, his landing didn't suck. In 'real life' FAR only require you to be at or above the glide slope. 2 degrees higher isn't a 'suck' landing.
@denhou1974 yes, okay, okay it wasn't that late, but you got to agree that in this guy's other videos he is not just over the the GS, he is landing at the middle of the freaking runway, if fsx or fs2004 were realistic on braking time and effectiveness, he just would't land!
@FlightSim2004COF Maybe just semantics but brakes play no part in landings. The airport in the video is KTPA (Tampa). This particular runway is 11,000'. It looks like he touched down right past the first taxyway which is about 2,200' from the threshold and only about 1,200' past the touchdown marker. He still had over 8,000' (1.5 miles) to rollout. MORE than enough. I'm not sure about FSX but, again, in real life this was a good landing. Good control, good airspeed, good sink rate.
Want the best virtual airline experience possible? Have trouble flying and need help? Here at Verazano Virtual, we offer you one-on-one flight training with a professional instructor. Weekly events where all our pilots our welcome to fly at. Professional ATC for these events. Company taxi services. VERY EASY to follow manuals for the aircraft you want. Our own TS3 server. YOU can be trained to become an instructor!

@attractive64
You have to follow the PAPI lights. Your goal is to make sure that two lights are red and the other two white.
If all lights were red, that means your too low, so you have to add more power and pull up.
If all lights were white, your too high, so you have reduce power and descend.
Also, aside those, you have to use your judgement.
Landing speeds for aircrafts varies.

@GazzerHST You should land with 120-140 knots
Deltapilot96 1 year ago
@GazzerHST with at least 165 since it is very heavy

Well as you've show the GPS is just used for keeping the aircraft on the right path leading to the runway ,right ? Or have you turned on the navigation tab to GPS ?
And how do you control the altitude and stuff ? what technique do you use to estimate the required descent rate so that the plane exactly lands on to the landing zone or whatever it is called .
And is keeping the runway at a relative fixed point on the dashboard the only way to keep the aircraft lined up during the Final ?

@nsm591 all your questions come in time and practice my friend...your airspeed indicator should be your primary instrument...

Hey i just wanted to know that , if i wanted to fly a plane in real life , is this game the same as real life i know its kinda a dumb question but please reply dude

@prohacker32
as a private pilot i can tell you that there's a big difference between flying in FSX and real life.

@redfoxarts yes, but unless your computer has PS3 like gaming characteristics, you won't get scenery and graphics that well. non the less its a lot of fun if you know what your doing!

your landing sucked! RESPECT THE P.A.P.I.!!!!!!! You touched down Waaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaay too late!! (as in all your other videos)
FlightSim2004COF 1 year ago
@FlightSim2004COF No, his landing didn't suck. In 'real life' FAR only require you to be at or above the glide slope. 2 degrees higher isn't a 'suck' landing.
denhou1974 1 year ago
@denhou1974 yes, okay, okay it wasn't that late, but you got to agree that in this guy's other videos he is not just over the the GS, he is landing at the middle of the freaking runway, if fsx or fs2004 were realistic on braking time and effectiveness, he just would't land!
FlightSim2004COF 1 year ago
@FlightSim2004COF Maybe just semantics but brakes play no part in landings. The airport in the video is KTPA (Tampa). This particular runway is 11,000'. It looks like he touched down right past the first taxyway which is about 2,200' from the threshold and only about 1,200' past the touchdown marker. He still had over 8,000' (1.5 miles) to rollout. MORE than enough. I'm not sure about FSX but, again, in real life this was a good landing. Good control, good airspeed, good sink rate.
