Kane removing his mask wasn't the mistake they made, it never affected him becoming soft, an example is the See No Evil storyline. Not saying I prefer him unmasked but we actually saw the rage written on his face, they should've just done a lot more with his character and try something new. Otherwise it would be the same as the deadman gimmick (I love The Undertaker, he's one of my favourite wrestlers, just that gimmick get's tiring to watch).

They tried to make him up to look burnt and grotesque, but WWE is so intelligent that they disregarded the fact the guy might profusely sweat during a wrestling match.
