  • ...WHY? >_>

  • The band really must suck if they need to use that many different tunings. I know bands who can use only maybe 1 or 2 different tunings, and they're good to go...

  • @TurkeyTuck lol doesn't mean they suck, they're eclectic

    you suck haha...

  • @TurkeyTuck We've got a badass over here.

  • His rig is my paper weight

  • ahah! i only use standart,Drop D, Drop C, half and one step down tunings in one guitar!!! xD

  • Shit... going on tour with 24 guitars... just buy 2 Gibson Robots and u're good to go.

  • Simple?

Nah, Mike. You're a fucking genius.

  • To the people who say Angus Young used simple setups:

    bit.ly /ofI0F4

  • @themodernguitarist very interesting. I've read all sorts of stuff about Angus' rig and never heard any mention of any rack stuff, let alone Mesa. Not doubting you, just taken aback somewhat.

  • @helikestv

Yeah, search "Angus young mesa rack", first result.

I wouldn't blame him. Racks were all the rage in the mid 80's - early 90's.

  • This is actually pretty simple. Not sure why everyone thinks it's not. Wireless system, power conditioner, effects, marshall preamp and power amp, diezel vh4, switching unit, cabs, guitars, and backups for everything. Don't think I'm missing anything. His live tone is awesome btw. Not a huge fan of his tone on the CDs but live is great.

  • why wouldyou need so much shit? thats fucking crazy.

  • Ibanez RG (Mahagony)---->Shure Wireless----->Flanger/Chorus/Wah----->Mesa Boogie Dual Rectifier. That's Idealistic simplicity.

  • if you lack of style and technique....more tunings is the way to go.....

  • It is simple, basically all he has is his power amps, and switching for his wireless's a tuner and a noise gate, simple.

  • hi im mike from staind and i have no neck

  • it always amazes me why guitarists think they need 10,000$ dollars worth of shit to get a decent tone...there just products themselves of the industry. By the time that guitar signal comes out of the speakers its destroyed. 25 guitars for some simple ass music. give me a fucking break.

  • So he works and sweats, but he still has a nasty waddle. lol

  • I swear every guitarist claims to "keep their rig simple".

  • MICROSOFT EXCEL!!!

  • i lmao'd he goes "yeah I like to keep it simple" then it shows a rack with like 20 units hooked up. You want "simple" talk to Angus. SG-->JCM800, and that's fucking it.

  • @helikestv correction: his amp is a JMP100. In either case, he goes straight in.

  • I swear, I was getting ready to post the same thing you just wrote! So I will give it a Thumbs Up instead. Simple huh? I nearly spit my coffee up when the camera panned in on his cabinet after he said that. I just watched the review of Guitar World on his PRS Barritone, and ended up here. Great post.

  • @5:34 did he say he has swamp ass....LOL!!

  • @razorsharp0827 swamp "ash" its the kinda finish on the guitar.

  • @Addicted2gtrs I know, just thought it was funny.

  • @razorsharp0827 oh, yeah it did sound like it a bit haha

  • I don't listen to Staind but this was a nice thorough look at a modern hard rock guitarists' barrage of equipment. I'm interested in his guitar for playing metal in Drop A. I currently play an Ibanez Japanese 7 string in drop A and love it, though.

  • Try's to keep it simple but he has 100+ grand worth of gear

  • I love how he says he "keeps it simple", but has racks full of stuff.

  • 14-75 on B? ive seen F# using 62s

  • @Death66reaper6 Breaking Benjamin use 16-70s. never heard of anyone using 75s though, thts just crazy, like he said, its a bass string haha

  • @Addicted2gtrs one of the guitarists in bring me the horizon uses an 80 on the low E. but a regular 10 set on the other strings.

  • @Death66reaper6 thts just insane!

  • wow 14's Stevie used 13's

  • I only use about 18 different tunings :L

  • simple? lol <-

  • @londonkol he uses AbDbAbDbGbBb, BbEbAbDbGbBb,AbEbAbDbGbBb,DbAbDbAbDbGb, AbDbAbDbAbDb etc

  • I am not a big fan of his band but Mike is a shockingly good player.

The latest album has some good guitar work.

  • What song is playing at the beginning?

  • Comment removed

  • @Xerxes666metal this is it by staind

  • @londonkol thats honestly the only tunings i would use plus Drop Db also known as (Drop C#).

  • HE went over all his guitar except for the ones when staind first started esp. Break the Cycle

  • @evilperson86u I didn't know he ever played ESP but I know he had played and was endorsed by Ibanez for a long time-he even had a signature baritone. And I think that was right before he was endorsed with PRS but I could be wrong. His Ibanez was the MMM1 guitar.

  • he kinda reminds me of Nigel Tufnel of spinal tap even the haircut

  • 21 different tunings for all his songs... who call that simplicity?

  • I travel with one guitar. Fender Stratocaster. I've only broken a string once in my entire career and I had a new one on before the end of the song. Even if I could I wouldn't lug that much crap around.

  • He likes to "keep it simple." huh?

  • @wolfey41 simple....his is rig is simple if you compare it to other lead guitarists like tremonti and carpenter...

  • This guy is soo under rated. 14 Shades Of Grey is the best album ever. He has such a unique sound.

  • @ManicStreetStevO yeah...I'd love to have at least one...

  • he needs a fuckin monitor to supervise his gear??! rofl...

  • This man must have been misinformed as to the definition of the word "simple"

  • what a douchebag

  • man i really cant stand this dude...

cmon 21 tunnings? and all sound the same?

  • @Deadlezz this must be a fucking nightmare to any guitar tech, in fact its ridiculous.

  • what song is playing at the beggining?

  • Why do all this American "Hard Rock" bands all sound the fucken same? Staind sounds the same every song but apparently he fucks with tuning.

    Piece of shit.

  • Its simple cause he tells people what he want's and how he wants it to work and they do it for him....This rig is not simple at all...His Gear page in guitar world was so crammed it was ridiculous.

  • the band sucks, the dudes sound blows cock but hes got a lot of real nice Paul Reed SMiths. and FUCK the red sox, Bawston Sawks Cawk!

  • At 3:42 you can see that theres 2 unreleased songs in the "F#,C#,G#..." tuning called "SNARE" and "FAILURE".. mystery? I tried to find them but there is nothing! :O

If you got some information about these then reply to this comment! Thanks!

  • 1:53 jajjaja "WHAT WILL OZZY DO?" thats what we all think

  • Mike has no idea what PRS is sending him... He's got a fuckin' 513 for christ sake. Most players would kill someone for a 513. He doesn't even seem excited about his gear. He'll have one hell of a guitar collection once it's all said and done, but he probably doesn't even care about that.

  • why dont you try? RIVERA and make a signature amp!

  • what a SIMPLE guy... jeezuz, its sooo SIMPLE , just 10 million effects but hey, its SIMPLE. why would anybody think its not SIMPLE?!

  • he is just the best!!!

  • whats the name of the song at the beginning?

  • douche

  • he has a fat face

  • @barton51 - this guy is awful. You wanna see a real shred guitarist ? Go watch a Paul Gilbert dvd!

  • @moontanboy you know just yesterday i think i figured out that he was from mr.big

  • simple to him maybe lol

  • he kept saying simple. simple to me is guitar stomp boxes head and cab. i like his stuff though. i'm jealous. 21 different tunings? im sure if he took the time he can play all of theirs songs with one tuning. probably will be tough though.

  • His Ibanez Signatures are way more better, better sustain with his crazy Baritone tunings...Hope he goes back to Ibanez... And John Petrucci to Re-issue the JPM's I would kill to see those again in production

  • He clearly can't play very well if he needs that many tunings... go learn some position shifts, modes and scales !! Duh!!

  • @moontanboy your ignorance need not continue. maybe they use alot of different tunings because aaron has a diverse voice and because quite frankly everything doesnt always sound better in standard and drop d. anyway check out the video of mike shredding and the dime all star show from 09

  • @moontanboy dude barton51's right when i right stuff i mess around with different tunings all the time, when you find something that sounds amazing it just is and think about it if u need to get from the 7th fret to the 15th fret wouldnt it be easier to tune it differently and only have to go to maybe the 10th fret

  • @wehurtthosewelove what about harmonics and tone????? it maybe the same notes on different frets (with alternate tunings) but the dynamics of those notes are much cooler if you have to work for it using a standard tuning.

Unless your a slide guitar player there is no excuse for such showing off and more importantly no need... learn the maths to unlock the fretboard and the rest is easy.

  • Simple? Really? Whatever still cool equipment. I love the PRS collection.

  • y is there not a Ab Db Ab Db Gb Bb tunning on the first few songs (Just go, Home..etc). thats what he tunes in but here its like G# or something

  • Comment removed

  • @Kuuuhn Yes they are =)

  • before he just had like 3 or 4 guitar. the NOVAX baritone. Ibanez artist. Gibson Lespaul. and the custom Ibanez in Home.

  • i saw staind live when they opened for creed in new orleans and mike had the same tone the whole i also got the entire bands autograph yrs ago

  • That guy does not need that many guitars. His bassist must hate him for having to have a ton of bass guitars for his tunings.

  • im sure the bass player has as many basses for the tunings...

  • lol

  • keepin it simple :)

  • Is that at Merriweather? Looks like it. I was there for that show.

  • Amazing how a guy with one tone needs 25 guitars for the road.

  • he has one tone but 21 different tunings. then he needs a backup if he breaks a string in that tuning...

  • whats simple about this?

  • "This is my rack" XD

  • @ManicStreetStevO hahahaha thank you

  • I was actually convinced he just plugged his guitar into an actual steaming pile of shit. I guess I was wrong.

  • @zone1480 2 hours later I'm still laughing about this ahah

  • that's just what comes out of the speakers

  • @zone1480 I laughed so goddamn hard at that comment. EPIC

  • They should do Angus Young SG Collection!!!!

  • Watch John5's telecaster collection tour. He does the same thing

  • he could probably feed a small village with all those guitars...

  • "It's real simple" - Yeah.......... O.O

  • you're going to hurt your neck

  • 25 guitars! Geez!

  • @UTMBarto: 25 PRS (!!!) guitars!! Holy shit what a lucky bastard...

  • I think he needs to use some of that money to get a chin job , looks like my grand ma LOL

  • Um..an effects whore, perhaps? Oh well, you can't hide money forever.

  • CGCGF

    Very interesting tuning.

  • he even don't know what simple means

  • real fuckin simple with the 21 different tuning!! :D

  • Goal achieved: KEEP IT SIMPLE!!!

    LOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOL

  • You would think he could cut down by using a morpheus drop tune pedal (and/or capo) and just tuning one string down for drop tunings. he could do the whole damn set with 2 baritones 2 standard lengths and two acoustics.

  • He makes Steve Vai's rig look simple...

  • remember folks...... just have a simple rig set-up and a few guitars

  • LMFAO: "I try to keep things simple."

  • i dont think he understands the concept of a "straightforward" rig lol

very nice, but alot of crap lol

  • awesome!

  • Real simple

  • he should install gibson robot tuners in his cutom guitars it would cut back on the 20 same exact mike mushok custom's in all different tunings

  • hahahahahaha agreed

  • Simple system? yep, especially if you were to compare it against The Edges bus sized rig or even David Gilmours setup. But 21 different tuning??? WTF??? His tech must realy have to be on his game backstage. But all in all I like the Mushoks guitar sound. Been a fan for a long time.

  • love the "what would ozzy do?" stickers

  • "Try to keep it simple :D"

  • Anyone else feel the urge to just say "Fuck you." after watching this? Wow. lol

  • Why? Because he has so many guitars? If so, then hell yes

  • Well that's part of it . . . musicians should know their instruments better than themselves as far as I'm concerned (yes this is debatable, no I'm not going to debate it :P). It just kinda pisses me off to see someone saying things similar to "What's this one" when picking up their own guitar.

  • i saw staind live at download

    there were fckn awesome

  • "quite a few guitars..." :D

  • i love these gear tours 5***** i wish i had a new guitar! i had a house fire and everything burned on x-mas eve.

  • ye man its simple....

  • 21 tunings holy fucking shit thats crazy!!!

  • *looks at giant rack filled with electronics* "I like to keep it simple" lmfao.

  • 0:07-0:16 kick ass

  • It's actually a simple setup for a touring guitarist. Its basically 2 amps at once and 1 effects processor. The bradshaw switcher to switch it all. It only looks complex because he has 2 of everything as backups which makes it twice as big. Its about the simplest $30,000 guitar rig you will see...haha.

  • well this makes me die bcoz im lost though out the video lol. but im on ma first year of guitar soo =P

  • it looks way worst then it is because he has 2 of everything incase something goes down they just switch it over. its just large and very expensive.

  • hell i bet it cost a lot. but ive never been to sure on what a guitar rig does. =/

  • @schlagdog are you crazy even Steve vai or Satriani hasnt got this kind ofcomplex rig

  • Satriani has probably the most basic rig you will find. He hates racks and he only uses the clean channel on his JSX amp and just his sig pedals. Vai has 3 amps and about 15 pedals and 2 effctes processors. This guy has 2 amps 1 processor for all his effects and a bradshaw system to control it. That is pretty simple to me. Those Diezels are so great sounding. At $4500 a piece they should be. The tunings on the other hand are ridiculous!!

  • @schlagdog ye really look at his rig closely his talking about half of his rig 2 power aps 2 preams 2 deazel amps procesors its crazy to me :)

  • The rest of his rack is a korg tuner, a voltage regulator, the switcher brain for the bradshaw pedal board and a grand total of 4 dual shure wireless rack units. The top 10 spaces of the rack are wireless systems and the switchers to switch to different packs for all the guitars.

  • "i try to keep it simple"

*points to rack and different heads*

    yeah.... simple.....

  • lol.

  • i love you mike noone goes all out at a show like you but you guys have gone soft am sorry. it all sounds the same now i dont why you need some many tuning.

  • i would love one of those with john petrucci

  • ............. there are several.

  • lol are you kidding, have you seen a tour of Petruccis current stuff, you need 2 vids just to get it all, haha his pedal board is just one vid :P

  • I agree. Ask AC/DC what simple is...... Guitar + Amp = Simple....So What is 4 amps with 2 of them having 4 channels each and 21 different tunings..... alot of shit. Cool band though

    .....

  • pretty nice rig...

  • Thats a pretty cool headbang.

  • "i try to keep things simple" here is my sound computer with buttons and lights. i always thought simple was guitar, couple pedals, and head/cab...lameo.

  • dude lmao is an abbreviation not a word xD

  • i know what i wrote...it's lameo...as in this guy's rig is lame...have fun feeling smug about your comment though

  • i wanted to make a similar comment and then I saw yours :D

  • Pretty badass i bet it must have cost the record company a fortune lol.
