Feb 09 Special: Titanic V Queen Mary 2*

queen mary 2 isnt the biggest anymore the world largest cruise ship is made in germany at meyer werf (meyer shipyard) look at youtube or wiki for more information but wel the disney dream looks alot like a newer version of the queen mary 2 i have seen disney dream for real :) its bigger then any ship ever made.

QM2 easaly. speeking as a marein enginer the titanic had alot of front and pomp about it claiming a ship to be unsincable is just show boating. whereas the enginering feats that have created the Qm2 like the incredibly complex wireing systems powering her aipods or the fact she has 2 large gas turbines in her funel. the titanic was nice enough but she never realy pushed any boundarys with her enginering.

@fighter4rent I'm not going to troll or anything, but thats were you're wrong. the titanic was a liner years ahead of its time, it pushed just about every boundry there was. it was the first ship to contain a swimming pool for instance. And the accomplishments of it's sister ship (R.m.s olympic) proved my point. The olympic was the first and only vessel to split a german u-boat in half, and carried hundreds of soldiers to and from a warzone, how does that not push a boundry?

@Timberwolf8998 I have to agree. Asking which ship was "better" is just a rheotical question. Define "better"? They were both the largest and most advanced ships - in their time! Either way, people are trying to compare apples to oranges here. Titanic is just better known mostly because it was one of the all time greatest maritime tragedies, many people don't even know it had 2 nearly identical sisters. Olympic served a fairly "normal" career, hence, no one ever paid much attention to it.

You just go into a hold and Titanic is sitting there LOL. She could fit right inside the hull of the ship, not counting much of the superstructure bit (thought the funnels would take up much of this part). She realy is that tiny next to QM2.

I like Titanic too though. Can't believe they got a ship that big now, almost a long hotel skyscaper.

Cunard certainly makes beautiful ships (Titanic was not one of them - that was White Star); however, the original Queen Mary ship is and always will be my favorite and most beautiful. She served during WWII with a reward to any Nazi captian who could sink her... it never happened. She served in luxury again after the war and current resides in Long Beach California, docked, and serving as a museum and a hotel. Staying on board the Queen Mary is a dream come true. Try it!

its great... but if you don't stay on the ship (hotel) you can still tour the ship and shop and eat on the ship.

Allways Titanic!!! Even though newer ships are of there time Titanic will always have grace and a certain beauty about her. Four Funnels and all. Its like trying to compare a true muscle car with a newer one thats trying to look like the old ones....

You can't really compare both the vessels. They were of there time, and some 90 years between them.

i think todays cruise ships are just boring looking and ugly anf fat and bulky.titanic had that sleek look to her.and i love the 4 giant funnels.even tough new ships have water slides and stuff in them i still think that titanic is far more luxerius.

qm2 all the way i say. hows the titanic better than queen mary titanic is 45,000 tones an the qm2 is 151,000 tones with 12 inch thick steel plated so it can sail into ice doing 12 notts

well some people do prefer (like me) the classic look of the titanic and nothing on no ship can live up to the standards of the Grand Staircase that was just a masterpiece and is now lost at sea

Its at the bottom of the ocean; and I think the Queen Mary is a very classic look (black, red and white). You can like Titanic if you want to, but comparing the 2 is a stretch. Different eras, different companies built them, they were built in different countries; one sank the other served for many years (including as a transport of soldiers during the war with Hitler). They are both remarkable vessels - I just have my own connection to QM, that's all.

Oh, my mistake... I was thinking of QM.... I dont' know enough about the QM2.... I do love these beautiful ocean liners... I do not care for the ships that look like a floating Las Vegas hotel. I like the more classic designs so I can't really answer your question with any valid response... I would love to see QM2 up close and personal... that would be nice.

no its smaller, ive seen a image of the qm2, titanic, a380 a london bus and a person and how big they r compared to eachother the titanic is a little shorter but it is alot lower even with the funnels there is loads of room towards the qm2

there is only limited pictures of the exterior of the titanic that arnt of it at its current position below the water surface

Titanic is more Special because it looked so perfect and it was all new, it was the most expencive ship back in those times, and the way that it sank in its first maiden Voyage made it quite historical and still one of the most tragic accidents in the history of the seas.

The QM2 only because she survived more than 75% of her maiden voyage and that I have seen her in New York and Southampton on many ocassions. She'll be in Liverpool in October 2009 - it'll be a great sight of her in front of the 3 Graces!
