Getting hit by a man in pads while you have pads on spreads out the force of the hit so it doesn't hurt as much. A baseball might hurt more because it only affects a small area, and it doesn't spread the force ouyt evenly to other areas, and also you are not wearing protection. It's just physics, simple really.
