Amazing delicacy of tone underlied by a steely strength and amazing technique. She is utterly fearless and just revels in her voice! She just tosses it off as effortlessly a a nursery rhyme! Nobody sings like this today. Thanks for posting this gorgeous soprano previously unknown to me.
"Salome and Ariadne"....don't forget her Sophie in the trio of Act 3 of Rosenkavalier...not your typical floating light soprano, but a young woman going through an emotional crisis as profound as that of the Marschallin....sings the hell out of it!! And my personal favorite is what in Italian would be "Amami Alfredo" from Traviata - has to be one of the greatest examples of operatic singing ever recorded.
Shee was a romanian citizien, because Moldova, beefor the the Second World War was a part of the United Romanian Kingdom. Wonderfull voice and singing ! Bravooooo !
Her parents were Romanians. She was born in Bessarabia but left as a teenager for Germany and Austria where she spent the rest of her life and career, taking German citizenship aged 19, the year she made recordings in Berlin on the Odeon label. Died in Vienna aged just 39 at the height of her career. No artist has ever had a funeral to equal hers.
@lauderfrost regardless where she is from.....she is an extra ordinary soprano....and belongs to the entire world ! A world citizen....to all the music lovers!
And Bulgarians too. Thank U for your information. I got it now she was Romanian, but if she lived 18 years in Moldova she got something from that land too.
