the anime is D.Gray-Man it's about a boy in a fictional 19th century (the 1800s)named Allen Walker, who has a deformed arm, and a cursed left eye, both of which he uses to save(destroy) Akuma, or demons with his fellow exorcists, he goes around the world on missions to find the tools to destroy the akuma and thier maker, the Mellenium Earl.

Allen's an orphan and doesnt really have a home, and after his foster father died, he kind of closed himself off (so says the author) so that's why this fits him so well (and there's a slight issue with him that makes it work even better). it's really good, but i suggest the manga over the anime
