  • Well my Monday is nearly over

  • He does indeed whistle.

  • OMG, I was just about to order the album based on reviews, people who bought M83 bought this album, ehhh.......wtf, it's a complete pile of pants. This is nonsense and don't pull that old mainstraim card bs, because you have no fxxxxxx clue what you are talking about.

  • @jiha85 look again, pretty sure he whistles. maybe that's why it took you so long to "notice it"

  • All the times I've seen this documentart, and I just noticed that Sam Jones patched the whistle in at 1:50, not sure what to think about that...

  • am i missing something here? i think lennydmc meant rolling stone the mag rather than the band. knuckleheads!

  • aww they're all so young

  • Friday Friday when the he'll

    Is monday

  • Great kick-off-the-week song. Thanks Wilco!

  • boy, that was certainly worth a 'ol "like".

  • OMG! This is even better than Friday!

  • OMG! This is even better than Friday!

  • I think that I was at this show! First Ave! Back in my drunk dazE!

  • Big Wilco.

  • lalalaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa

  • This drags a lot without Bennett's little chicken pickin' stuff on top. Sigh.

  • This era is my favourite era of Wilco. Jay was out (nothing personal against him), the band wasn't really sure where to go next, they weren't as comfortable as they are now, and they made the most haunting and beautiful album of their career (AGIB).

  • wilco was actually on the parenthood soundtrack, which was rele cool! i love wilco, and parenthood lol 2 of my fav things, how can it be any better

  • Agree with Nels being awesome! I saw WIlco play two weeks ago and his guitar work on One WIng was immense, so much better than the album version.

  • Jay bennett was a legend. But nels is becoming a legend. Nels is extremely creative, and a ridiculous guitarist. they're both awesome.

  • @ drezler5 - Kiss meets Wings....is that a compliment or insult?

  • If you like these guys as much as I do, and you want to discover a similar up and coming artist. Check out Jailbox on iTunes, Twitter, and Myspace. I think you'll like what you hear ;)

  • Glenn Kotche rocks! Jeff Tweedy has the best voice in rock! The guitar and bass sounds are perfect! Best band in the world! (Sorry I'm shouting but they've got it turned up pretty loud.)

  • @metersfan YOU CANT SHOUT ON THE INTERNET WITHOUT CAPS LOCK

  • Sounds like Kiss meets Wings.

  • lol

  • Tweedy's voice sounds great in this performance.

  • Jay Bennett was the greatest. He and Jeff are the best version of Wilco.

  • yeah exactly, i cant listen to the new stuff. its a shame.

  • @dearsarahshu totally agree. But the kids dig the new stuff. It's hip to like Wilco now.

  • @dearsarahshu i couldn't disagree with you more. I'm 19 and discovered yankee hotel foxtrot 2 years ago, and I whole-heartedly can say that every time i see them live (coming up on my 7th show) its the best show ive ever seen, stop hating- they're still the best band around.

  • look,Jay Bennet was just a jealous jerk off to Tweedy,Theyre better off without him.Sure,Yhf and Summerteeth are two of there best albums, but jay was just a setback for them.I mean, the guy was gonna sue tweedy for not appearing in the "I'm Trying to Break Your Heart",Doc,I mean what kind of jerk off does that. You quit the band,so why do you expect to be ackknowledged.Besides, they're new stuff is great, and you can see them live and see that they are still one of the most magnificent bands out.

  • but Nels is one of the greatest guitar players in the world right now. as dictated by Rolling Stone. and I know Rolling Stone don't mean shit, but still. Nels is a god.

  • Choo choo Charlie had a pretty good band

But he couldn't understand why no one would go

A world record player's on a tour of Japan

Charlie's fixing his van with the left arm tan

    He said

Monday, I'm all high, get me out of FLA

In school yeah, I fooled ya

    Now I know I made a mistake

  • mimesis6mime - first, BJM is god awful. Second, Wilco is the alternative to all that is wrong with mainsteam rock today. Rolling Stone did not create them. The create garbage like Fall out boy. There is a difference.

  • @lennydmc The Brian Jonestown Massacre aren't terrible.... they do have their fair share of problems though.....

  • @lennydmc Fall Out Boy ain't garbage.

  • @lennydmc you are pretentious

  • Comment removed

  • @thecupcakeprincess How am I pretentious? For knowing what I like? For understanding that mainstream rock mostly sucks? Or is that I actually said what I honestly believe? I would love some clarification on what makes me pretentious.

    .

  • @lennydmc I regretted hitting send as soon as I wrote it. My apologies. I should have worded myself better.

But I thought that your comment against Rolling Stones was uncalled for and the whole part about them creating garbage like Fall Out Boy was a little silly. The Rolling Stones never 'created' any other band, but provided inspiration if anything.

  • @lennydmc I think you're attacking TRS more than FOB in this case, and although you may dislike the music of the Rolling Stones you can't deny the huge impact they had on other greats such as Led Zeppelin and ACDC.

  • Wilco isn't a retro rock band.

  • Cool version, but I think they play it better w/ the current lineup, like on the Ashes of American Flags dvd.

  • Vive Wilco, quoi dire d'autre sur cette petite fenêtre de commentaires................

  • Neither Leroy Bach nor Jeff Jweedy is quite the guitarist that either Nels Cline is or Jay Bennett was.

  • nels is the best guitarist theyve had...but i like tweedy hes such a creative genius

  • @johnthebaptist93 Yeah but Tweedy gives it the groove....

  • @johnthebaptist93 Hey now, Tweedy's guitar work in Ghost is Born can absolutely compare to anything Nels or Jay has ever done. Some may even go as far as to say it's better... (me)

    To each his own

  • @johnthebaptist93

I liked Leroy Bach on keys and stuff. Maybe this band right here and add in Nels would have been good. They sound good now, but it seems like there's ten guys in the band.

  • @johnthebaptist93 I doubt either of them is dumb enough to disagree.

  • @johnthebaptist93 Leroy Bach is a good multi-instrumental person. I think he added a good vibe to the band.

  • @johnthebaptist93

    smooth.

  • @johnthebaptist93

Jeff is better than most front men, in all honesty, and Leroy was an awesome utility guy, got to admit.

Nels is the pinnacle of jazz expression with Rockin' application, and the only person I've seen live that not only nail recorded solos, but find a way to exceed the perfect recordings.

  • @johnthebaptist93 This is a stupid comment. First, they don't pretend to be, which is why they are not 'lead' guitarists. Second, Jeff "Jweedy" is a pretty damn good guitarist in his own right. Third, Cline would blow Bennett out of the water on guitar.... that guy is crazy good (no disrespect to the late Jay Bennett).

  • @johnthebaptist93 Tweedy is a singer/songwriter, and still a damn good guitarist i.e. A Ghost is Born, secondly, Leroy is an Utility guy, he plays multiple instruments, so one could argue his talent is just as important, just not instrument specific, but Nels Cline trumps anything Jay Bennett ever thought about doing, may he rest in peace though, as he was a wonderful musician as well....that is all..

  • there missing something....... jay bennett

  • THis was shot after he left the band but just before they signed with Nonesuch.

I was always hoping Mr. Bennett would join Son VOlt

  • wow you're father never loved you..

  • Comment removed

  • hahaha i'm going to borrow that saying

  • hahaha good one sarcasm is still funny today!!

  • this is what 'rock' should be defined by

  • Much agreed, my friend keeps talking about this band and I kinda judged them on their name thinking they'd be like one of those bullshit pretentious goffy fucking wanker indie rock acts like regina spektor or something. I was proved quite wrong, great rock n roll songs!

  • I love watching Glenn. He gives every song his all, and looks like he's having the time of his life. Awesome!

  • I listen to Wilco, I buy their cd's and see them live at every opportunity, and I enjoy this, thank you.

  • young'ns!!

  • i love the brass arrangements they added to monday recently!

  • Actually, you can hear those brass arrangements on the album version of this song, which is on "Being There." But you're right, they are awesome! :)

  • Just had to say quickly that it seems a bit unfair to make a blanket statement about Wilco being overrated simply based on this song--I am not the hugest fan of theirs but would say that they have progressed a fair piece since Being There (and I would never call a band that claims Nels Cline as a member overrated)

  • ENERGY

  • Come on everyone! Wilco is a fine group, and if you don't think their stuff is as bitchin' as their fans do, what are you spending time disagreeing for? You aren't gonna change a Wilco fan's mind, or a Britney Spears fan or a Korn fan lol.

And also, this song RAWKS ha.

Tweedy can play solos all day if he wants, and I would be content to listen...

  • killer comment....barkingpumpkin90 is the dude! Let's knock one back. Wilco is THE BOM Be Dee Bop FN Doo

  • I guess every moron is entitled to an opinion. Peace!

  • Hey WilcoDad, just because I don't share your opinion, that does not make me a 'moron'. How very, very ignorant and unimpressive of you. Bummer to have to deal with it. And, my point stands: Wilco ARE severely overrated in my opinion (as are Radiohead).

PS ** Do not get personal/insulting on YouTube -- it's a rule in the agreement YOU had to fill out in order to post YOUR OWN opinions. Else, you will be reported toute suite .. Just some friendly advice.

    Have a great day.

  • well said, but on the other hand, you got to admit, leaving a comment like the one you posted is asking for a respons that is just as subtle..

  • You're personally insulting me with your insecurity. Wilco rocks!

  • I'm getting odl enough that I respect if someone's trying to do something their way, and I may just not like it. That's the way I feel about Wilco. I have a LOT of respect for these guys. They're doing their thing and putting their heart into it. The music's too mellow, radio play music for my tastes. I give 'em credit though. I draw the exact comparison to Bruce Springsteen. Puts his heart into it, but the music is much too radio-ish for me.

  • nonewmccarthyism -

to claim a band is overrated implies that you have some almighty insight into what "good" music is . To list out bands you've seen is hardly a testament to your ability to critique a band. Ever hear the song "Rock n Roll Lifestyle" by Cake? Listen closely to the words of that song, I think they are talking about you.

  • Ohh... Mr. Mccarthy is going to call the Youtube cops. Moron.

  • im new to checking these guys out, but sounds like a bad version of Drive-By Truckers.

  • way better than the dbt

  • This song lacks the punch of the other live versions I've seen with Jay et. all.

  • Wilco make music, plain and simple. They have paid their dues over the past 13 years, and it shows. Music for music's sake - the way it should be.

  • Wilco makes music - not videos, or photo ops, or celebrity endorsements. They are the real deal, and they have paid their dues over the past 13 years. Wilco have developed into something great through their many years - like really good wine. Music for music's sake, the way it should be.

  • I love Wilco!!!!!!!!!!

  • 5* ...

  • I think you must be on the wrong message board my friend...

  • Yeah, go to another band and make fun of them. Wilco rulz, you drool.

  • sorry wico fans are into how the music sounds not if the "singer"(jeff tweedy) looks good or not, brainwashed robot homo

  • Brilliant. Simply. Brilliant.

  • AH LOVE EM!

  • Although this performance could use Jay Bennett's guitar part.

  • Their old stuff sounds better when they play it live. Especially now with Nels.

  • thatis the truest thing i have heard today. their whole lolapalooza set is up here and there old stuff kicks ass with the new line up.

  • THIS BAND IS AMAZING. PERIOD.

    -R

  • I love the Ronnie Van Zant wolf whistle at 1:52.

  • i made a big mistake too

  • not hiding from anything, born and raised here. if anything I want to go hide somewhere else, like Tweedy.

  • haha, I love Wilco, and somehow never managed to hear this song.

    Represent Pensacola!

  • hiding from the snow?

  • This song is on Being There disk one, I believe.

    :)

  • Wilco are actually good, a property son volt don't have.

  • Haha, i love how subtle you are ;)

  • Does today's Son Volt have anywhere near the musical capabilities of today's Wilco?

  • No. I was comparing both original bands. In which case Son Volt was better by far. Wilco now has the better group of people and is even using what they have. Hope Tweedy doesn't fire everybody.

  • Not sure. I love Jay Farrar, and admire the fact that he remains a purist, but his music isn't as visceral, or as emotive, as what Tweedy is doing. Excellent lyricist, though.

  • who ever did wilco in h.s,haha?

  • is this multiple concerts?

  • I love the 'ol school rock and roll feel of Jeff's vocal. The band kicks major ass. Cheers, boys... Ya'll certainly rule!!!!!

  • Best song Jeff Tweedy ever wrote.

  • such a good american rock'n'roll song

  • I love the old school reference to Florida with "FLA."

  • John Stiratt looks like Quentin Tarantino.

  • Great song and a great performance. Being There is one of my favorite albums ever. Thanks for posting!

  • so glad Wilco is back!

  • tight

  • amazing

  • quality!

  • This has been my fav song for, like, EVER!!!
