Love these guns. The thing that always strikes me is that these Russian brutes always seem to have astoundingly well preserved barrels - and they were fed salty corrosive ammo with nary a clean.
Well when you have a conscript army of over a million, and each uneducated peasant has to be given a rifle, you want something that they can't do anything to to make it not fire. Same theory has been applied to the AK
These guns are easy to find, you can buy them for a $100 all day long, cant beat the price for the quality that you are getting...btw most of these are left over from wwII that have never been used, they were extras that have sit in a crate for 60 years so they should all be in excellent unused non refurbished condition like mine...it would be sweet to find one that was actually used and had talley marks carved on it by a soldier!
but that reduces the value of it. if you were a serious gun collector planning on holding on to this for years do you want something with a perfect stock or one with a bunch of nicks and cuts in it
well they made 17 million 91/30's and about 4 million m44's most have been arsonal refurbished and this one was made in June of 1945 and never saw combat its a $90 rifle and has an ugly import mark on it. If it was a m91 dragoon or cossak rifle that would be different but i bought this rifle to shoot i got my k98 and other things for the history. So dont shoot your mouth off until you know what your talking about.
I have one just like that made in 1944. It does not look fired at all. I paid $175 for it. As long as I know how to clean it, it is a economic and accurate hunting rifle. I hope I can get another one. Maybe a M91.. Big 5 has them for $100 right now.
it seems like these are rare finds. why, might I ask? didn't the russians produce millions upon millions of them during the first 50 years of the 20th century?
Quite nice. I picked one up last year, metal was in good shape, but the wood was pretty rough. Not rotten, but the finish was pretty lumpy, dried cosmoline, and a few scuffs and nicks. I sanded it down and refinished it, really brought out the beauty in the original laminate stock. While I had it all apart, I also bedded the barrel and action as close to the trigger as I safely could.
They're really great guns for the price that you can get them at.
It penetrates thick clothing better than a blade bayonet so as a result of dealing with many winter combat situations they kept it. Also a lot simpler to manufacture :)
Its a beauty, Nice woodwork, I bet it shoots like a dream too. Hard to find good quality M44s, I lucked out on mine, but most of the ones out there are worn out like axe handles. Great vid.
Nice rifle. How's the bore?

Only 4 million M44s? How much longer do you think the MNs are going to be pleantyful and cheap here in the US?
