Fantastic video! I have a newer Yamaha, a YPT-310, whose stereo speakers cut off when I plug in headphones or a stereo jack. I want to be able to have the speakers on as monitors when I plug it in. Actually, I want to have the choice. Any suggestions?
@peterdvideos The jack is probably wired to the circuit board, so I wouldn't fuss. What you could do is wire in another jack of the type I used in this video by jumping the wires from the speakers a bit like I did here. This jack would always be "hot" and the speakers would always be on even when something is plugged into it. To cut off the speakers, just use the Yamaha jack.
I take it these keyboards don't have a stock headphone output do they? Those demo songs remind me of some video games on the NEC Turbugrafx video game system, particularly Bomberman '93.
Many of the small keyboards were marketed as toys. To keep the price low & profit high, they didn't include a headphone jack (although some parents might have appreciated that!). Some musicians today are re-discovering the vintage sounds and they "hear" that these sounds (patch or drum kit) are perfect for the sound they want on a song or track. Some of these instruments also sound really good through an amp or mixer.
Thanks for your comment. I think YouTube is no longer posting messages to friends when I post a new video.
I don't know why they have gone this way, but the only thing I can do now is post a bulletin to my channel when I put up and new video and hope folks see that somehow.

I don't know how I missed this one, but nice work! And that's a good way of making it compatible with both mono and stereo plugs.

@clydesight I agree clydesight, and I initially mistook that switch for a SPDT.

Cool video! You cam up with a very ingenious way of doing mono and stereo at the same time here. Great looking work, too. :) JC
