  • Man, check out Crosby throughout this whole clip - guy always had the best dope. Shit went off in the '60s.

  • he was bogartin that doobie

  • david crosby is such an idiot. still is a genius though

  • david crosby needs to realize the 60's are over

  • @michelleleawaldrop1 60s never die bro

  • Anybody know if the excerpts at around 1:10 and 4:10 are parts of CSN songs, and if so, what their names are?

  • I agree 100%.Steven Stills always rocked!!!

  • I have this on VHS. It's from a movie/video that was sold back in the early 80s which might be out of print nowadays. I believe the film might be called Long Time Gone or something like that.

  • Compare 3:10 to 4:20. That's what music does, my friends.

  • I'm putting my guitar in open Eb tuning and getting a poncho.

  • What a treat 4+20 was at the end, there. I loved watching Joni Mitchell listen to that song; that's how I listened to it the first time, it just grabs you.

  • Does anybody know what show it is, where you see the short scenes of find the cost of freedom and laughing? Is there a recording or a video of the whole show out there? Looks awesome:)

  • @waspkfd1982 this is this dick cavett show

  • I'm a Stills fan through and through so yeah, this is an awesome vid. thanks for posting it.

  • Whenever they had a meeting with management, Crosby would pull out his crippler pot, and they would drool and nod on it while he said, "Ok, here's what we're going to do..."

  • David Crosby is an idiot. He still talks the same bull today

  • Where's Stephen? He's doing what he does best! I have so many versions of Black Queen, however, I wish I had this one complete. It sounds wicked.

  • Beautiful!

  • this dude was a pig. a long haired bearded bum with a pig like voice debouching women and advocating rotten behavior

  • 6:43 " number nine "

  • very high voices for men...

  • @whoiskcwhat I think the footage was running alittle fast too.but their voices are kind of high anyway.

  • crosby at 0:35 thinking 'this is good shit..'

  • one side you got drugs and evil barbarians and on the other youve got civilization .....1969 was a satanic year of filth

  • what's the song at 2:07 ?

  • @willmanningmusic "Black Queen"

  • what's the song at 2:07 ?

  • thanks so much for this footy!!

  • Stills is the complete musical package

  • @MJkate

    no doubt about that MJ

  • whats the documentary called

  • You had to be there

  • It's hard to believe that this passed for profound commentary. Crosby was bright and insightful, but his overwhelming narcissism always got in the way.

  • Steven Stills - totally under rated. He's amazing.

  • @AmericanDawei He was the blue collar man of the group.

  • @jackjohnsonsdick IT'S SONGS WITH NO TREES which is sort of like an instrumental song and uh the other i believe is FIND THE COST OF FREEDOM

  • Preach it Crosby! Preach it!

  • graham nash is such a queer. if he would just shut up and get high everything would be fine.

cocaine ended the party for crosby. if he had just stuck to pot.

  • @nootaramus Stills was pretty messed up on the blow, too. While he and Croz were still a duo, a local DJ played one of their demos on the air, identifying them as the "frozen noses".

  • @nootaramus Graham Nash has practically held the band together for years. No Nashie, no CSN.

  • Download the audio from this song at thetunify doht cohm.

  • what song is stephen stills playing 2:10 in?

  • @deadhead8979 That's "Black Queen". There's an alright version on his first solo album, a drawn out version on 4 way street (live) and what I think is the best of the three on his archive "Just Roll Tape".

  • Crosby has always been a dim bulb.

  • @casper1918 I don't think so.Maybe it sounds funny to hear his stoned pronouncements from those times today or maybe you just plain don't like the guy (I know many don't).But someone who has written the songs he has could never be accused of being a 'dim bulb'.

  • When Stills rants to Crosby about not "copping out an inch to fear" is that in refererance to Crosby's Almost Cut My Hair?

(and i aint givin' in an inch to fear)

  • @InTimeAllMustChange Yes, I think Stephen is frustrated with David and quotes his own lyrics to him, to show he is a hypocrite!! Not sure what the argument was about though!

  • @lemonbade Yeah right. I seen the full footage of that clip once and Crosby was at an absolute low drug point in his life and completely hard to deal with.and Stills was frustrated with him and was quoting some of Crosby's own earlier lyrics at him in just frustrated anger.

  • @InTimeAllMustChange in reference to the fact that Crosby was stoned on smack

  • A wise man once said "Fuck trolls"

  • You don't wanna piss off Stills

  • 0:48 now i know where crosby's "if i could only remember my name" record cover came from

  • crosby bought me a beer on Catailna -i discretely dumped it in a plant.. he said the girl singer on stage with me was what brought him in.. she declined a record deal to go hikiking up 101..she was killed later in a car wreck.near Carmel... she was beautiful and had the voice of an angel-but i don't remember her name. so we got the queens of pitch correction now--crosby & i know what we lost-and so it goes--guitar pioneer JoJo Clark

  • @jc8812 I would like to know who you are (im sorry that i don't as of yet) but if you could contact me i would be in great appreciation. If contact me i would love to talk.

  • fuckin STEPHEN STILLS was the dude.......

  • *generic put down of people of pressed dislike*

  • i always thought crosby was full of shit....great singer...but a total tool off the mic

  • mAN yOu IS sToNed..can I have your sperm

  • @bailey536 lol you smart ass cunt

  • Their arguments were epic. They were four big, opinionated independent singer/songwriters, and they had their differences. They also left us some memorable music.

  • what tuning is he in playing 4+20

  • @TheShampow44 DDDDAD but a half tone up (D# / Dis)

  • Priceless

  • @jackjohnsonsdick

    1:20 =song with no words(tree with no leaves) and 4:00 = laughing (I think)

both can be found on crosby's superb solo album - If only i could remember my name

  • We can still go back. Just watch.

  • people dont realize how cool David Crsoby was back in the day. They see him now and think hes just some old weird geezer. That guy was a legend, chicks were all over him. His voice was arguably the best in the group. That scene where stephen stills yells at crosby is awesome.

  • 5:12 Grace Slick was soooo hot.

  • @nardo363636 ewwwwwwww

  • Could anyone enlighten me as to what song they are singing and about 1

    :20 seconds in?

  • I wonder if the half naked girl were his daughter he'd feel the same way?

  • @dumbbina ...duh... i dunno dumbdina

  • @dumbbina Why don't you ask him? He has a 13-year-old daughter (the product of his sperm donation to Julie Cypher). My guess is that he wants her to enjoy her youth as he enjoyed his.

  • Is he holding a joint ?? LOL !

  • What Crosby said at the beginning says a lot. This is great footage, thanks for posting.

  • @imflyinn amen to that

  • Brain fart..I reckon I'm wrong...you have to have a brain to screw up! How in the hell did Graham get involved with these dumbasses?

  • @pds3939 ...what?

  • Comment removed

  • The version of Find the Cost of Freedom at 3:28, played at a higher note, is just magic. If anyone knows were I could get the full version of this clip or if anyone knows of an artist who plays this song in the same key, please let me know. Thanks.

  • any time this dick cavett is around i think of the many idiot journalists who was around in the sixties trying to piss off the new wave while using it commercially.

That guy is just an america idiot ---

  • Worthless

  • @HOAXANDCHAINS I presume you mean priceless?? This is definitely not worthless, it's bloody amazing, so insightful

  • 1969 OU COMMENT COMMENCER

  • david is so fuckin beautiful

  • Christ, Stills is ALWAYS out of tune! He's hitting it too hard with an lowered open tuning, forcing the low strings to go sharp. Easy...

  • @beeroosterm dude shut up

  • @goldenmantis Too late, "dude"... And I speak the truth. When you drop the tuning, you must pay attention to how hard you strike the strings lest they ring sharp.

  • @beeroosterm dude when you write and record any piece of music that compares to Stills 'out of tune' playing then let me know, oh wait you wont you'll just watch youtube videos of real musicians and criticise them...

  • @beeroosterm even lout of tune he makes YOU look like a novice

  • @LizRichieBand How would you know? That being said, I'm a much better player than he ever was. Too bad no other talents like his will ever be recognized, what with the music world now reduced to Britney Spears and rap acts...

  • @beeroosterm

you have no respect for this great talent

i hope you lose you ears & hands

  • @LizRichieBand Fuck you. Cunt.

  • @beeroosterm

    whatsamatta booby...hit a soft spot???????

you untalented fool.......this is why you'll never go anywhere......thank the fucking lord cos yer an imbecile

  • @beeroosterm

you need to come listen to my music.....come listen to a real talent.....unlike yourself.....even my practice tracks would run circles around you.....PUT YOUR MONEY WHERE YOUR MOUTH IS.......POST SOME MUSIC PUSSYBOY

  • This is a TERRIFIC find. What a mesmerizingly stark composition from Stephen Stills! Guitar-playing so haunting that time hangs suspended as each note unfolds.

  • the best crosby still nash(and neil young!!) period before the fall (cocaine, alcool, ego...) they were young....

  • Stills was so fucking great. Some of his guitar playing is just beyond compare. I love his song "Special Care" with the Springfield, though he did almost all of it by himself.

  • Thanks so much for posting this! it's gold!

  • I love the part at 4:20.....endearing cute and magic all at once!

  • Comment removed

  • The Coattail Rider pontificates on "The Scene, Man...."............. laughable for someone of his ilk to come down from the leather couches (reported by Grace Slick) in his ivory tower and comment on how society should be when he never struggled. I like when Stills tells Cros (lying in a hammock, no less) he's not going to cop-out "an inch to fear" (line from "Almost Cut My Hair" written by Cros........) and calls him a hypocrite....... well said.

  • Watching this, I'm amazed these guys got anything accomplished.

  • Would like to have this whole interview

  • HAHAHAHA, Look at Dave at 4:20

  • I wonder if Stills kept those jeans with the mud.

  • Does anyone know what kind of mics those are that Steven Stills is sing through at about 2:12.Do they still make them?

  • Thanks for sharing this!! It was a pleasure to watch and experience, even if vicariously by film through time...

  • which one of them was banging Joni at this time?

  • @Rikk303 I think all of this footage is from Joni's Nash period, although from the look she shoots Stephen around 8:53, you can tell that other ideas had crossed her mind.

  • @Seasass Well spotted! Must be a bit of a pisser to have your private life under the microscope when all you wanna do is have a blow and make music. I'm forever indebted to Joni for putting my name in song anyway. That was her "Blue" period as I recall...maybe that's why they use blue liquid in sanitary towel adverts? When all is said and done though, CSN (& a bit of Y) were an incredible blend of voices and musical talent. Shame the booze and drugs messed them up.

  • I just could never help thinking that they were full of shit

  • @panakoo I know someone else who is.

  • @CSNY70 Don't tell me....your mother

  • @panakoo ...A classic "your mom" joke. Both hilarious and creative.

  • @CSNY70 It got a response from you.............as I thought it would

  • @panakoo Ah,yes. You are one step ahead of me with your cool intellect. If only I could have seen it coming,

  • They're so young ... !

  • amazing and profoundly true....

  • Band friend Robert Hammer shot much of this footage

  • ahh...Crosby, "King of the Hippies"....

  • what is the name of the song they are singing at 4:10?

  • @2120mattm the song is Laughing ,off crosbys solo album if i can only remember my name, the song has such a groovy almost spiritual vibe

  • @Carmnu Thanks! Yeah, it sounds great

  • @2120mattm The song at 4:10 is "Laughing" by Crosby - it's one of the tracks on his solo album "If I could only remember my name".

  • See one way to get through to the kids... (see - individualimpact1 - channel)

  • Crosby: the utlimate hippy. Lucky to survive decades of substance abuse. Lucky in his talent, associates. A survivor because of his work ethic. Stephen Stills had 50% of the temperament in the group. They are so young here. Stills had his recording studio in Malibu Canyon; pictured there. Interesting to hear Stills put down Crosby with his own song lyric here. The famous three point harmony they achieved was a revelation even to them.

  • i think David Crosby is VERY stoned..

  • When I lived in D.C. back in '78, at an art fair on the Mall all of a sudden I found myself face-to-face with Stephen Stills. So I said "Hi." And he said, "Hey man," or something. Not being an autograph hound, that was it. But what I thought was cool, was how he was just out among the public doing his thing.

  • I know some of you posters love to rant about how great weed is, but I tell you what. Trying to work with musicians who can't do without the bud for one fucking session is one big pain in the ass. The tempos on the music fluctuate too much, vocal cues are missed and it ends up being a big waste of effort. It's a shame because someone like Crosby is enormously talented without all the bullshit.

  • @petsounds75

    What is weed?

  • @petsounds75 Weed? How quaint. Their fans might have smoked weed, but the artists themselves had graduated to other stuff for sure by the time CSN was formed. At least, Crosby and Stills had. Before Nash was added, they put out some demo tapes and were identified as the "Frozen Noses" by a local DJ in LA who gave them airplay ...

  • @DrPratfall Nash was an acidhead as well...just listen to his stuff with the Hollies from 11967..

  • "Sometimes the music is just strong enough where it pulls out of us a better self..." Love it.

  • the most great voices!!!! the laurel canyon dreamin'(1966, 1969)...... before the nightmare( altamont, charles manson, hard drugs....) merci pour cettevideo!! thanks clément the "dreamer"

  • "Unique" is the key word. I been listening to three part harmonies since the PP&M days and CSN since the 70's. Lots of trios have sung 3-parts through all those years, but there will only be one CSN. The most unmistakable vocal trio ever.

  • Can anyone tell me the song they begin singing at around 1:12

  • Tamalpais High, I believe

  • Seems to be an early version of Guinnevere.

  • Song with no words (Tree with no leaves)

  • We love you david. Live on, rock on.

  • @hdm67 Hey the song is called. 4 + 20.

  • DC is sooooo lucky just to still be alive.

  • @757optim

I saw this on the Dick Cavett Show in 69. This was the day after Woodstock. If you notice, The Jefferson Airplane and Joni Mitchell are also there sitting in the Circle.

  • Great footage of some of my music heros from the best times of the 70's era music. I used to think that Steven was one of the best guitar players of the time. He was back then. Today he is just a broken down old dude with a bad attitude. Crosby and Nash are still sounding well despite the years. Stills is a dissapointment. I know he has had bad times but he has forgotten his fans. Time to retire Steve.

  • Wheres the rest of this footage? It comes to a some what abrupt ending.

  • Man david Crosby is so high!!

  • the last song is so fuckin sad and great.

  • around 8:13 marty likes it.

  • david crosby was really stoned awesome!!!

  • Comment removed

  • the song in the begining of the video is so relaxing

  • SO WHERE'S STEPHEN

    -scene change-

    blaaaack queeeen lolol

    love this

  • Thank-you for posting this!

  • wow....crosby is so high in that first scene...wow. this is such an intriguing video, especially knowing where they are now.

  • Does anybody have the rest of this interview or program.

  • this is a clip from a dvd called Long Time Gone the definitive 25 year retrospective of Crosby Stills and Nash. hope this is helpful to you.

  • Long Time coming its a dvd please get it

  • That was fucking great, thanx for posting

  • I like the way David pauses for a hallucination (at around :15).

  • lol...totally. Me too ! Fuck I hate 2009.

  • i wanna back to the 60's

  • yeah but the dopes better now you fuckin' hippy

  • no the dope now sucks. i am a hippie and these people used pot for mind expansion, not a trend

  • What you guys started we perfected our THC count is twice as high as it was in the 60s

  • we had morals and thc isn't a good thind. i use it for simple mind exspansion

  • not to be an ass, im all for traditional hippie culture, believe me. but generally if you're lookin for mind expansion you go with lsd
