The girl playing Christmas Eve was the best I think. haha and the guys playing nicky and rod were good. ^^
But the guy singing "B.A. in English" was just painfull, sorry. @_@ There's a difference between not being classically trained and just completely tone deaf.
Actually "Avenue Q theme" is one song, then the next song is called "What do you do with a BA in English/It sucks to be me." That's how it is on the soundtrack anyway.
You were'nt bad, really (Even though Andrew was a bit off the tone)! I think you can be better but this was nice too :3 I pretty liked it. I especially liked Paul and Rosa's singing ;D
I would just like to point out that he had never sung infront of people before...and he is in no way classically trained (you can find all this out simply by reading the comments...).
Yeah Im a bit confused about some of the comments with negative criticism. For (and I mean this with the utmost respect) people of your age, you were all very good. And I dont know what the chick you just got her voice back normally sounds like, but it added a cute touch to the preformance. Awesome sauce =P
i think we're all analyzing the whole issue of "critisism* a little to much dont you think? this debate seems a bit perfuse, so why dont we ust stop it. sorry for any unintended offense. hope you have a great life; on - or off - stage. goodbye.
because the only point you'll be making is that your an idiot. I'm sorry if i offended you or your... talent. that was never my intention. please dont hate, thats not what i atch this video for. once again, dont think i ever tried to belittle you, ok? because thats just fucking ridiculous, why the FUCK would i try to belittle someone over the internet? i find that an insult in its self. *sigh* nevermind, go about you buisness.
...Um, I was willing to appologize after your previous comment. It seemed like you were truly sorry that we took your criticism the wrong way. But then you wrote this comment and got just about as out of hand over our comments to you as we did over your first comment. So I think you're not one to be lecturing about taking criticism. I'm not trying to hate, I'm just saying that this comment did not really help the problem. I think we should all just stop with the name calling and act like adults.
silly boys and girls, dont get so angry, i was simply pointing out the skill level of each performer. i never put anyone down. i dont get kicks out of being critical, i just wanted to comment on the video, thats what the comment box is for right? and over all, it did make me feel better about my singing voice. props for going up there and performing, i'm not taking that away from you; just dont jump out at me trying to make a point whehn all i do is analyse the performance...
brain isnt a singer... kate monster can barely project. Rod was energetic. Nicky was average at best. christmas eve was good. very good infact. princeton was ok. gary colemen was kinda good. overall it makes me feel better about my singing voice :D:D thanks
Our intention was NOT to make -you- feel better about -your- voice. Kate not only was comming back from loosing her voice, but the camera was bad, everytime a noise was closer to the camera than the stage it picked that up instead. Brian isn't a good singer in the play anyway, he's SUPPOSED to not have talent (see "I'm Not Wearing Underwear Today" if you need proof of this). And give him a break for trying.
As for Nicky and Rod, they are both very talented and diserve a lot of respect seeing as how they were still learning the song an HOUR before performing it. Of course Christmas and Gary were good, we all were. And Princeton was only "ok"? If you'd read any of the other comments you'd know that this was my first time singing in front of people, I was nervous.
In conclusion, I think you should perform and record this song and leave a link in the comments showing you doing better. Then we'll accept your cheap-ass insults...maybe.
But until then, please stop being a bitch and stop trying to belittle others just so you can feel good about yourself.
1) I was just getting my voice back... I could barely TALK, let alone sing!
2) "Brian" was just starting out... not much experience!
3) Rod and Nicky had never even heard the song before and they were still great!
4)"Princeton" had never sang in front of ANYONE before! And I think he did a great job!
Based on your very last comment, I can tell you get a kick out of putting people down... so if that's what it takes to make you feel better about yourself, go ahead and keep doing it!
OMG u played Gary Coleman!!! Awesome! Im gonna play him in my play soon! I tried 4 kate monster and got a callback but i didnt get the part. Who cares? Gary Coleman iz awesome!
Yup, The ACubedPlusE members all played roles in this performance. Amanda played Kate Monster and Andrew played Princeton, with our friends who played the other roles. thanks for watching
Someone mentioned about is this legal... I don't think high school's have enough money to secure the rights to this musical, so how the hell are you doing this? You need permission to do this.....
this is a talent show... NOT A PREFORMANCE. there is aq BIG difference. And fyi you need permission to do a lot of shows.thats why it cost money... to buy scripts and the rights!!!
Also, we were using the karaoke cd of the soundtrack...so it was basically like one large karaoke party on stage...totally legal, regardless of how stupid I just made it sound.
Well we decided we were doing this about two days before auditions right before spring break when everyone went traveling, hence no time to make puppets
Part of the problem with our acting and with the mikes was that the people who worked the stage didn't set it up right...Also, we only got to reherse on the stage once. Otherwise we were in a small space singing while standing in a circle...So we didn't get much time to work on, well, anything. LOL
(Cont3[part4]) Gary. Hehehe. You did very well, but your voice faded a bit. If it wasn't for that, I would've picked you as my favorite. Maybe it's just my speakers though, they crack out sometimes. Overall, you guys rushed and dragged a bit in some places, but for agroup of unproffesional singers, you all did pretty darned good. I'd like to see more!
(Cont 2 [part3])Princeton, I can tell you were a little offkey at first, and if it was you're first preformance, atlesat you didn't throw up everywhere. Thats what happend to me x_x. You sounded a little nasily and got a little offkey at times through your parts, but other than that, I thought you didn't do half bad :). Brian, you did a very good job with your motions, even though it seemed your nerves were starting to get to you, so you cut a bit out.
(Cont.) Everyone could've done a little bit more on the acting, but it's hard to act and sing, especially if you don't drill at making everything just right. Acting wise, I probably like Rod or Christmas eve the most. Were Nicky and Rod putting accents on their voices? It sounds like it. I liked their singing part alot. Christmas Eve, I think you were my favorite. You did veryveryveryvery good! But I was dissappointed with the "l"s. ~shrugs~
Overall, I liked the preformance. To the person who played KateMonster, I think what the comment about mics was trying to say was that since you were sick, you should've arranged it towhere you would've been much closer to the mics since you were sick. Was it strep or a sinus infection? I can't tell (I could be completely wrong). I was in that position, and let the understudy have it after the first (weak) preformance.
Hey, I just want to say this in response to lizjonas's comment about princeton's pitch. I was princeton and I DON'T sing...like, ever...That was also the first time I'd sung in front of people so I was really nervous. I had tried really hard to get the pitch but I was really having trouble doing it in front of people...later on I felt a little better, which is why it started to sound better. Thanks for the input!
[LAST, I PROMISE!] Anyway, as a final word, let me just say: I am in awe of all of you, as a whole. I am a music student and even though I have many musical-theatre-minded friends, I don't think we could EVER organize something even as seemingly "small" as this. I really want to commend you for that. A lot of non-theatre people don't realize the time and effort and planning that goes into staging even the shortest of pieces, and I have to say that this was really impressive as a whole. :)
Okay, I really hate to be one of those YouTube strangers who just mercilessly degrades performances; it's so unnecessary! -- So let me preface any criticism that I feel bad about, with some one of my more positive points. :)
1. Oh my god, the guys playing Nick & Rod stole the number. Obviously I don't even know you guys, but the audience seemed to dig you as soon as you walked on, yet you were so into your characters. Great acting, good singing, good dynamic. SO hilarious!! I loved you two.
Now, let me just quickly run through the cons. (I feel bad, but I feel like someone has to.)
1. Princeton has no pitch. -- & I don't mean that in an exaggerated, hyperbolic way. Sure, for the second half of his song he had a semblance of pitch... but for the first half, it was just so so out of tune and in the wrong key. Ugh, I'm so sorry, but it put a dent in the whole great performance! :( It made me seriously question why someone would cast him as the *opener* of all things?
2. Kate seems like she has a pretty good idea of vocal technique, despite the ho-hum acting... (You can do SO MUCH with Kate Monster!! Watch Stephanie D'Abruzzo! Even the littlest well-placed eyeroll and *completely* change her character and get some laughs.) I sympathize with vocal illness, so it's not like I'm going to be too harsh. ... But when someone cannot project, for whatever reason, mics should really be used. It made Brian overshadow her completely.
Hi there!(I am the girl playing Kate in the vid) I am not picking apart your comment, but I just wanted to say a couple of things... :) One is - believe it or not - we DID use mikes... my voice was just THAT weak, really... it was pretty terrible... and it hurt to sing. I usually sing better than I did in the video, I assure you ;)
And, also, the reason I was so sick and had lost my voice is because (while the rest of the cast was practicing) I was in Washington DC with the school's chorus, singing at the National Cathedral (which was pretty kick-ass, I must say!) So I only made it to 2 rehearsals (the second of which I had no voice) so I really didn't have much time to prepare for the role!
(Nicky and Rod were in DC with me too, but they still made it to more rehearsals than I did before we left for the trip... I was involved in quite a few extra curriculars)
But I acknowledge that I am NOT a skilled actress. I sing (much better than heard on this video) and play the flute... I'm a music girl through and through ;)
Thanks for your detailed comment on our vid though! I appreciate the time you took! :)
I'd have to agree with that. The laughing is distracting. WAY fun to watch otherwise. That Andrew guy is really a star. Can't wait to be invited to his first paid acting gig!(just hope he doesn't puke on my shoes if he gets stage fright)xxx :)
