Hippies are basically the same thing, wearing thrift store clothing so they don't contribute commerce, living in communes to stay with people of their own type. And listening to inconspicuous bands to rebel. And "normal" people hated them too. I don't want to be a hipster, I didn't see their group and say "Hey, I wanna look like that". I've just always dressed/acted like them and fallen into their group because I'm an artist.
