  • Re. What happened to the 71 TA Unfortinately it got damaged in a fire, that destroyed the wireing system and caused extensive damage around the engine.

It was then salvaged. This all happened about 1985.

  • I bought new a 1971 TA with a 455 HO engine 3.42 rear M22 4 speed trans. Number 6 off the procuction line. It was truly an awsome car! The power, handling, were truly something that had to be experienced to be believed.

  • @masteralexstocks - What ever happened to the car?

  • .......WHATSA DECKEL------STOOPID RICH QUEEF!

  • anyone else catch the way he said "decal" at the end?

  • For the record they were no faster than a 71 or 72 h,o.The motor is stronger but not any faster.

  • It´s like my Firebird Trans Am 1974! See in my videos

É só ver na minha página pessoal do You Tube.

    Parabéns pela postagem aqui!

  • kick ass car i might be gettin one he want to trade for my 94 formula plus cash and im all for it!

  • @Dogapsa Maybe for the 70's. I would put the 86-87 Buick Grand Nationals up there too. Maybe the 94-96 Impala SS's too, even with the LT1.

  • my dream car

  • My dad had two of these. He never lost in a race in either of them. This thing pounded absolutely everything. So far ahead of its time.

  • I call bs to the hp rating.

  • nice lookin car. the 455 sd was a fast car. im a mopar guy but they didnt have nothing on this car in 74. well done g.m. very nice car. i like the colors.

  • Yeah I have a 74 firebird. It is a Formula 400 though. And I actually do have one because I have a video of it being reved on my account, so :P.

  • my dad has that car. it moves!

  • hood deckle? LOL who is this idiot?

  • a 74 rated at 310 hp I dont think so.

  • 290 for the 74 and 310 for the 73

  • Man, this is deja vu!! I used to own a car exactly like that! 455 SD and all!!

    DAMN I miss it!

  • SD 455 Clean Like This One That Is if this one Clean All Matching #s Worth 100 Gs...

  • One of the beastiest cars ever produced.....

  • MY DAD HAS THAT CAR

  • What year did the 455 start going to shit? Because I heard the 76 model only made like 200 hp or something.

  • I'm 16 and ever since I was 5, I have always wanted a Pontiac Firebird (exactly like the one in the video)

Can someone tell me how much a Right hand drive Pontiac Firebird costs nowadays? Preferably in £, but $ and Euros are fine

  • @dvdsmlprstylr

You're not likely going to find a T/A in england.. You're going to have to get it shipped over from the united states which is pretty costly. If the insurance here is expensive, I can't imagine how expensive one of these would be in Europe. But if you're looking for one in good condition prices range from about 20k - 30k$. But if you really wanted one I'd suggest going to North America and marrying someone and gain citizenship here. But that's if you absolutely need one.

  • i have a 74 formula 455... i love it =] turns more heads then any modern vehicle ever will

  • This was undoubtly the best car to buy in america in 1974

  • Better than the 454 Corvette of the same year?

  • id take a 454 corvette for that year. but you could get a 400 in the ta till like 79. you know what i got a 69 corvette 427 i love it

  • Ok, then make a video of it, and don't give me any bullshit that you don't have a camera or it is broken.

  • So shit dumb ass! Cars now a days are computer controled, much lighter, and weaker.

  • aSKING PRICE?

  • It won't beat a factory Mustang GT of today.

  • You mean in 35 years technology has advanced? WOW!

    Google 1974 Mustang...haha

The Trans Am was the meanest car you could get from a dealer in '74. And it will only go up in value.

  • are you kidding me that lil 5.0 against a 455 big block you gotta kidding me

  • today driving a mint condition trans am like this one its a victory over any mass produced high performance modern car

  • i have a 77 bandit editoin its nice :)

  • nice thats the same color as my 79...enterior is identical lol i cant wait till it finished

  • Ah, Admiralty Blue, the best '74 color IMO, right up there with the '70-72 Lucerne Blue cars. If only it had the 4spd, Black Deluxe int and the Honeycombs it'd be perfect! ...and if only the TKO-600 were OE!

  • I think I just..."JIZZED IN MY PANTS"

  • Awesome color combo! Never saw that before!

  • Car and Driver tested a '73 SD 455,auto,air,3.08 rear and a full tank(3854 lb.curb weight).Track times goes as follows:0-60 5.4 1/4 mi. 13.75@ 103.68. This is about the slowest SD 455 I could find over the years! A 4-speed w/3.42 rear would have no doubt ran low 13s at a higher trap speed!

  • Just to set the record straight--the 74 SD455T/A held the SS/KA Record in NHRA Racing in the 70's Making over 500 hp .

  • Also when your comparing the ls6 to the SD455 your talking about a half of a sec differance. When it's that close it's all in the driver.

  • Not trying to compare it to the past. The SD 455 TA when it came out was the best for those years. Have you seen the 1974 issue of Motor Trend? The SD455 Trans Am is on the front with several other muscle cars behind it. Portraying how they are behind in performance.

  • nice!!!!

  • Check out the race between a regular 455 74 T/A and a LS6 Chevelle on my profile - pretty even. A SD455 T/A would be all over this.

  • evry test of that era has an ls6 chevelle as a 13.10 car and an s.d tyrans am as a 13.6 to 14.0 car you really dont get it do you?i grew up back then and am telling you an s.d was fast but nowhere near an ls6.

  • Motor tend tested a LS6 and it ran 13.81..

Hot Rod Magazine test drove a factory stock SD 455 powered Trans Am and obtained a 1/4 mile time of 13.54 seconds at 104.29 mph.

Use google next time before you try and trash talk a car you have no knowledge about...

  • ls 6 chevelle ran 13.10 in the quarter mile ,it was with the hemi cuda the fastest muscle car of its time.I have a lot more knowledge than you ,you idiot i grew up with these cars and i have owned 8 trans ams.

  • Lol your really silly , the Chevelle Super Stock Mag tested ( which did indeed run low 13's in the 1/4 ) was ordered with a 4:10 Posi and M-22 transmission and it was " TUNED" prior to running. You can't have your head that far up your butt to belive that an equal geared SD T/A would not run that.. If you order the SD with manual trans it could break into the High 12's without issue. Just go to any Pure Stock Event and see for yourself.

  • Oh and BTW thats with SMOG JUNK!

  • If you still feel that way after all the proof otherwise then there is not any point in this discussion. It is a he-said/she-said topic.

  • I would like to point out to both of you that the Trans-am is not a drag racer. Its a Trans-am racer. It races on road courses not drag strips.

  • i can confirm you one thing! i have seen with my eyes on the track that a 1973 sd 455 / 4 speed car could run just as fast as a 1970 LS6 with 4.10's and a m-22 4 speed. the trans am had 3.42's versus the 4.10's of the chevelle. the chevelle ran 13.12's and the trans am ran 13.17's all night long... the problem is that the chevelle weighted 4100 lbs going down the track vs the trans am's 3700 lb's

  • and that is coming from a true CHEVY GUY! but facts are facts...

  • @peter355camaro

455 TA's were in the 3800 lb range....don't ever remember seeing the chevelle being over 2 tons????

  • @Tracti0nAction Bullshit a stock s.d will not run 12s atandard or automatic, not even close .More like low 14s or high thirteens if all stock.

  • camirocz....give it a rest, no one agrees with you or your twisted memories. We all know the truth. You obviously hold a grudge against the SD, did you get embarrassed by one at the strip?? YOUR WRONG .......dont embarrass yourself again!!

  • what the hell are you on about sausage jockey?

  • LOL !!!

  • The production SD was quoted as 290hp (310hp was pre-production cam) but that was to get past the EPA, more realistic figures according to GM Engeneering were 370hp SAE Net or approx 420-440hp Gross. Its well documented that the figures were underquoted.

  • The 73 SD were NET rated at 310. I went for a ride in a 73 455SD 4 speed car when I was a kid. A child hood friends Dad bought new December of 72. I will never forget how scared shitless I was when he ran it through the gears. I think I was 11 or 12 at the time. He then had headers and glass packs on it. He had the car until 79 when he sold it for 4K with 33K miles. If I only knew.

  • I don`t think any `73 to `74 engine back then would beat it.

  • Dream on muppet. Have you ever owned either.....doubt it!!

  • stock 454 chevelle against stock sd 455 trans am the chevelle wins

  • Depends on what year chevelle.

  • obviously not a 74 chevelle we are talking ls6 70, 71,the s.d was fast for a low compression stock motor but nothing crazy ,very high thirteen low fourteen car ,no big deal, today a stock automatic mustang would rape its ass.

  • A low compress 454 will not, nor a stock automatic mustang of THAT era won`t.

  • Your missing the point, the 70/71 chevelle was already tuned because in 70/71 the production regulations allowed it. In 73/74 they did not allow it, so the SD455 race engine was de-tuned (cam, inlet and rockers)and underquoted on horsepower figures to get it passed by the EPA. As for the mustang of today comment, whats that supposed to prove?? A Veyron kills everything, but WTF has it got to do with this???

  • Been done--Jerk.

  • Hey jerk--my 74 SD455 T/A would beat a local 70 LS6 454 Chevelle by an average of 3 car lengths--you must call that a loser car also -- LOL.

  • The only one dreaming is you camirocz, wake up before its too late!!!

  • The SD455 T/A--Totally cool.

  • ditto

  • I would cut off my left nut with a dull butterknife for this car

  • couldn't agree more.. although I own a 74.. not as nice as this.. but is there such a thing as a sharp butterknife bro? LOL. If so.. I'm still with ya on using a dull one.

  • i was crazy about these as a kid.
