I recently just started injecting myself after moving for college. I've only done it a few times, I wish I had veins as easy as yours! Anyways thanks for the video, I've learned some stuff I can do when i have to inject my factor viii tonight!
wow! you do it the same way i do! leave some air in the syringe to make sure yo uget every last drop, pull the blood back to the syringe before you inject the product to get the little bit of air out. not taking off the tourniquet. i do use a sterile gauze instead of toilet paper, but hey whatever floats your boat! also, what product are you using? i have never seen that before
I am afraid to do my injection alone, because, not that i`m afraid, but when someone tries to make me an injection,my hand start to shake, but whatever next time i`l try to do it by myself. By the way i`m 13 xD
Thanks for posting we are workign with our son on transitioning to his veins from his port- it really helps to show him other people using their veins.
I am learning to infuse my son in veins after 13 years of port use. I think it is great that you have this on here. I think everyone has there on way of doing infusions. My son's veins are not as good as yours but hopefully he will one day have better ones. I can't leave his tourniquet on or it does blow his vein. People that leave negative comments probably don't realize the struggle to learn to take care of yourself. I applaud you!!!
I have haemophilia also, in the UK...I get Refacto AF which is the synthetic version under the NHS for free. Have been doing it since I was about 14 years old...i hope one day haemophilia will be gone for good..
hey dude...can u help me get factor 8 also for free? because here in the philippines its so hard to find and its very expensive...im karlo from the philippines and been suffering from this gift for 28 years now...here's my email..olrak82@yahoo.com...type back dude, ill be chicking my email from time to time...
you forgot to sanitise the factor "bottles" before putting the appilcator on! ;)
sometimes when i nearly forget to o that for my boyfirnds factor i freak out at myself! ;) hes been doing it for a while now! although he only has to take factor nine - so its not this complicated! it was cool to see how you infuse yourself!
I'm sure you will be fine. I first injected myself when I was about 9 or 10...I'm 39 now. It is great being able to do it yourself and not have to rely on someone else or visit your local hospital or doctor every time you need to inject. Give it a go and you'll be glad you did. I much prefer doing it myself as it hurts much less and I know exactly where I want the needle to go and how to take it out. Good luck:) How old are you btw?
@TheMightyC i have severe type A and i just wanted to show some support ! my brother passed away 2/1/08 from his struggle with AIDS from tainted factor VIII. stay strong and keep up letting people know what they may consider strange is part of our daily lives and if you ever need to talk im here!
@xxmagnumforcexx My husband has severe type A and i guess i just wanted to also show my support :) Im sorry for your loss. I know my husband lost a lot of friends in the early 90's to AIDS. He just turned 40 and day to day living is hard for him, especially the joint pain, but somehow he manages to still work full time and help us raise our daughter. I have so much admiration for him and everyone everyone who lives with the disorder.
Crickey, it's just a video of the way I injected myself! What's the big deal? If I showed you a video of me injecting myself (without the mistake) how I normally do, you'd probably have kittens. I normally do it standing up in the kitchen, surrounded by food. Is that allowed? You do it your way, and I'll do it mine:)
hey dude..im michael from the philippines. im suffering from this gift since the day i was born...im lacking factor 8 too. can u help me find some donors or institutions that give factor 8 for free, because in here, its so hard to fine and its very expensive...im 28 now and the only joint that works well right now is my right arm...sometimes it also malfunction...type back dude...ill be chicking for your response from time to time....
New and improved factor boxes that may come out and lots of alcohol pads and tornequets, tyllenol, like a lot of bottles (from liquid to pills), merderma for scars (just to be safe), neosporin, and lots of free factor in bags.
TheMightyC, it's not good for you to take injections on the same spot twice. Let it heal up and the meantime you should do ohter veins like the fist or other arm or the vein on the lefy or right side of the same arm. (Experience) I noticed your vein had a red dot which was from a previous shot. You can damage the veins.
Anyways, you should ask your doctor to give you an upgrade on the factor boxes.
I don't really think you have a factor sender like myself who sends me things I need like ..
hey dude,im karlo from the philippines...im a hemophiliac too...and been suffering from this gift for 28 years now...can u somehow hook me up to your factor sender because in here, its so hard to find and its too expensive...ill be chicking your post from time to time...type back dude...
Yea my veins are extremely good. I took those injections along time ago do you still use it. You do know you can upgrade to the faster and easier hemophilia boxes with advanced supplies.
Hey man i got heamophilia a and been injecting myself three times a week for last twenty years, my veins aint as good as yours, (you got real bleeders!) but i tend to use the same vein on my right arm kinda often (my others kinda suck! heh~)
any way to get to the point dont you find it kinda hard to stand up wilst injecting, i usually sit down and use pillow?? just wondering??
The tornequet isn't really very tight at all. My veins are pretty good anyway and the tornequet is just to make sure it is as big as possible. I have never had any problems keeping the tornequet on whilst injecting and shall keep on doing it this way. When first taught one is told to take it off/loosen it whilst injecting, but what do the doctors know eh;) As long as the F8 finds it way into your bloodstream, does it matter how it gets there? Do it the way you're most comfortable with I say:)
I agree what Emoslacker99 say u should really take out the torneque or else the blood will stuck at your hand also it not good to tie torneque too long at ur hand it will stop the blood from going to ur hand,
I am a doctor in-charge of heamophillia in singapore. this is only my personal exprerian. no offence,
Lol Noob You must take torneque out after u inject yes 30year u do it this way So What? what's the Big Deal? one day your vain Bust And i will Laugh! Noob!
EmoSlacker shut the fuck up, i'm sure you could do a better job at slitting your wrists with a torniquet anyway. Did I mention to you to shut the fuck up?
I must admit that despite what you see in the video I never take the needle out with the tornequet still on! I do leave it on whilst injecting though. I can only put it down to the fact that I was filming myself and in an unfamiliar position. I usually inject standing up in the kitchen where all my injecting paraphernalia is. Otherwise all is what I normally do. The vein isnt bruised, it is just a different colour from all the years of usage & when I inject I cant feel a thing which is nice:)
This isn't me showing you how to inject, it's just me showing you how I inject. Thanks for all your advice, but with over 30 years experience one gets into a routine that works for them and this is a way that works for me. It makes no difference to me whether I take the torniquet off or not. I have injected into this same vein three times a week for 28 years with no problems at all. I normally inject standing up in the kitchen by the fridge btw...unless I have a leg bleed;)
When I do it for my son I dont shake the factor, I spin them to pervent air bubbles, and you should remove the tourniquet to help pervent the vein from blowing
Always remove the tournequet before commencing injection;
When removing butterfly, place swab on puncture site.Once needle is withdrawn maintain firm pressure on site. DO NOT remove pad and look at site as will it bleed (the reason you're vein is badly bruised). Ideally, firmly tape pad to punture site and do not remove for 30 mins. This will stop/ keep bruising to a minimum.
Thank you for putting this on here. I'm entering nursing school shortly, hopefully going into hemophilia treatment, and I am currently a CNA. I knew the theory behind this whole process, but I'd never seen it, and it was fascinating for me. I mean, I have sympathy for you as well, don't get me wrong, but I found it very educational.
I'm having my school vaccination tomorrow ;( wish me luck if I dont survive then sniff sniff XD

@TheMightyC So you managed to avoid the tainted blood crisis of the 1980s? Lucky you.
