America, the Natives had been forced to adapt to many Spanish mannerisms, since the 1500s, inculding the faster, rhythmic Spanish music & dance.... just like like the Hmong had been forced to adapt to many Han Chinese mannerism (failingly, I might add, since the Hmong were just too free, too wild, in nature, to conform completely to authorities.)
If I didn't pay close attention & with the Peruvian flute, I could almost confuse the Hmong with the Native highland Peruvians in the Andes.
From the ringed, heavily flowered skirts, to the hats/head wears, their shor-statured, adapted for high altitudes, with long, course, straight black hair...
Perhaps it's not so surprising, since both were ancient stocks, split from each other some 12-15,000 years ago, one treking into central China, the other over the Alaska landbridge to the New World...
