  • I like where you are going with this, kmikesell, however can you broach the subject of how bad processed food is for you? Chef Boyardee... canned Campbell's soup... (MSG and toxic chemicals). I know I would eat those things if I was starving, but I would rather not eat those things or prepare to have those things for my family. Then you have to worry about a lot of health issues associated with eating processed foods and MSG. I would like to learn more about storing healthy foods. Thanks.

  • Spaghetti is a straight noodle, favored by backpackers since it pack compactly in a bundle. I like small elbow macaroni, since it is versatile, and I can eat it with a spoon. Rice and pinto beans, and canned whole kernel corn, are good. Don't ignore chili peppers and seeds for chilies, lemons, tomatoes,

  • Corn meal mush is a very basic dish: 1/4 cup of corn meal, one cup water, pinch of salt, bring to boil, simmer -- follow directions on box-- I microwave 10 minutes. Add honey and margarine or bacon/sausage drippings. Double the serving for winter.
