yeah! mud boggin on some street tires! i love defenders and all but a FACTORY locked G with some simex tires and removed step bars would walk that defender in mud snow rock and whatever else, lol except maybe deep water
@e55komp No, my point is I'm sure it wouldn't. If you're going to compare 2 platforms anyway, they need to be the same spec.
The Defender is the more capable of the 2 platforms when it comes to the rough stuff and with the defender you don't mind ragging it about, with G wagons you do because of the £££ they cost
@14th20thKRHkickass thats bullshit and you know it, the defender has "glass" 10 spline axles until they put in the 24 spline which are also shit, no factory lockers and are the same price in the US as G wagens, i dont know where your from but i can say a 2002 g500 is roughly 25k where im from and a 94 D90 is 25-30k with 120k miles on a local craigslist. i know defender are cheap in EU countries and landys are cheap, but for the rest of us, it doesnt really matter which one, its the same money
@e55komp Not bullshit at all. Take a bog standard Defender and a bog standard G wagon, the defender will go further. I appreciate the pricing though, in the US Defenders and Land Rovers in General are hugely expensive. Here in the UK for a 94 Defender you'd be looking at £4000 for a really nice example with a few mods, for a bog standard 94 with some miles on the clock you can find them as low as £1900. G Wagons by comparison are more expensive here than the US....not sure why though
@14th20thKRHkickass a std defender will not out wheel a G in stock form. what your saying in compete rubbish, you cant tell me that an unlocked defender can go farther than a locked up F&R G class, think about what your saying for 1 second and take the hatred for the german people and put it to the side, and realize your precious landy is a great bargain where you are, but its nowhere near the same in STOCK form
@e55komp In my experience they're just not as good as you make them out to be. I am however not willing to continue this conversation if you are going to start assuming that I hate the German people, because you'd be oh so very wrong. I love the German people and lived there with BAOR when my father was in the Army and have been posted there myself (with the Army too)
Now, there are some obstacles that a G wagon would do better on but equally there are alot that a defender would excel at better
@14th20thKRHkickass overrated is your precious land rover, ive wheeled with a defender, out wheeled it with my discovery and have worked on and wheeled G wagens for 10 years, you obviously havent or have such a bias opinion about defender that it really doesnt matter what logic tells you or any argument is going to be brought up because you just refuse to accept it. defender as well as discoverys can be made GREAT offroad but out of the box, you are HIGH, im sorry but its true
@e55komp No I'm not high. I've worked with Defenders and G wagons in a military environment which requires offroad travel carrying loads that are often above the safe axle limits.
G wagons may have lockers which is advantageous but they have their downfalls including weight, price and price of spare parts.
You want to see something that can outdo both of the said platforms, head over to my page
@14th20thKRHkickass this just shows you have no idea what your talking about, in the military environment, who gives a fuck about price and price of spare parts and to call locking diffs just "advantageous" if like calling hiroshima a misunderstanding, here is where your landy falls short, no diff locks ( as stated before), longer wheel base in all platforms, unreliable, weak axles, low power with HORRID fuel economy, head gasket blowing every other time you want to use it.
@e55komp It's wheelbase is not shorter in EVERY platform, it's power output is not worse especially not in relative terms; the axles are not great grant you, but are easily replaced at a low cost, the fuel economy isn't that bad and frankly doesn't have an effect on the offroad ability (like the Unimog and zil131 etc)
Land Rover has better approach and departure angles, it is cheap, there are many spare parts it is simple to maintain, it is light, it is effective. Fuck you and your attitude
@e55komp You are literally clutching at straws, you have one card and one card only to play, the locking diff. Well woopty doo, the G wagon has it to compensate for its lesser articulation and diff locks are not without their drawbacks such as loss of control, tire scrubbing and vague steering.
As for your comment about use in the military environment, who gives a fuck? Well the nations than spend millions on the vehicles to allow their troops to achieve their objectives. So again... fuck you
@e55komp oh and thirdly, blown head gaskets? Thats only an issue on the 2.5TD not the 2.5na, 200TDi, 300TDi, TD5 or TD4 or any of the V8 engines.
I'd suggest that if you're going to drag Land Rover's name through the dirt you might like to have an in depth read and not just flick onto a forum, read the first engine problem post and marry the issue to every engine Land Rover has ever fitted the Defender with, because frankly that'd make you a retard.
@14th20thKRHkickass I WORK ON THEM FOR A LIVING YOU ASSCLOWN, all the v-8 engines have head gasket issues, or sleeve issues, its a fuckin buick motor. i own a 4L discovery, stop being a troll.
@14th20thKRHkickass I WORK ON THEM FOR A LIVING YOU ASS CLOWN, i run a european repair shop dealing in everyrthing euro. i write the forums that your stupid ass quotes and tries to get help when you need a fix, so do me a favor you amateur, stick to your backyard military jb weld and duct tape, cause thats all you know,
@14th20thKRHkickass and again, td5 if you took your head out of your ass you know you do head gaskets every 100k if your lucky it lasts that long , there used to be a service bulletin on the issue that expired a few years back. 200tdi same thing, same shit head gasket that blows and leaks coolant. you are dumb and a troll, and you dont know what you are talking about.
@e55komp Not at all, total bollocks. I have driven the G wagon and seen it in the hands of others. I have not looked into all its issues but I bet if I were to go and read up on the mechanical issues there'd be alot of them. The Gasket heads? Not an issue on the TDi and not a real issue on the TD5, its only an issue on the 2.5TD seen in the late 80s models of Land Rover 90s and 110s.
Perhaps you ought to take YOUR head out of YOUR arse
@e55komp As for the leaks, yes land rovers do leak a bit, not really enough to make it a serious issue in most cases not an issue at all. You are taking the most minor cases and blowing them out of proportion. Read the mechanical forums on G wagons you dumb fuck and you'll see it too is riddled with issues. Then look at the cost of repair and maintenance.
Land Rover is better offroad, it has its issues but they are easily overcome, it is more adaptable, it is easily upgradeable it is basic.win
@14th20thKRHkickass haha, brits are fucking dumb, maybe if you used a german dildo you wouldnt have broke the british one off in your ass and creating all this shit spewing out of your mount... win mother fucker
@e55komp No, you just played the same card, and thats all the G has, 1 card.
Anyway, this conversation is over and you've lost. Your credibility decreased when you suggested I hate the Germans and has now totally expired that you've resorted to bad mouthing my nation because I don't agree with you. Look around your own nation you cunt, Americans aren't too bright themselves, most can't even point America out on a map......who's dumb now? The answer is you.
im only 14, and i never got to go off roading (with a truck, even though we have a good off roader, the land rover defender) but it looks fun how fun is it really?
Merc is too expensive to take it out to wilderness. Defender are more practical choice to crawl through mud and rocks. Mers has a bigger compression engine but it is still not the choice for off-road thrushing.
@symmetry08 There are actually many available engines for the G class. Only the V8 is offered in the U.S. but elsewhere they have a very torquey diesel. As far as off road capabilities, just take a look at the number of armies that use the G versus a Defender.
you just entered patriot teritory! i used the military connection to defend the land rover a few months back and still get constant emails from stupid american humvee enthusiasts! love the g but love the d more :-)
The MB G in this video is not set up for real off roading. There is a clear tire and clearance(side guards) advantage for the LR. They are both great cars!
@SamTheSuave Yeah but that's because most land rovers will see some mud in their lives and G wagons won't. You buy a Land Rover normally because it is good offroad and you want to do battle with mother nature. You buy a G wagon USUALLY because it's a big car. The G wagons are good at being SUVs, the Land Rover Defenders will never be gangsta and will always be a UV (as opposed to an SUV)
Nothing sporty about the defender, mine handles like a bathtub but I love it dearly :)
As for the G..It' s worth every penny! It cannot be compared with Defender, It's a different class of cars. You have a bunch of engines to chose from...not only 2.5 diesel and some petrol...it is strongly built, as for the feeling of driving one...priceless...the mixture of luxury and practicality is...fantastic.
As for the best offroader in the world...that one is the one you modify yourself in your backyard...
Yes, indeed, the Land Rover is cheap, but it reflects on the quality...big time. Same with Cherokee (this one has to qualify as a car first... :) I speak from experience...I had my friend's Defender on my hands for several weeks for "testing". It's a "mule". Right, we all agree that the defender and G wagen are the best off roaders, but...........if you fitted the defender with front and rear difflocks, the same as the g wagen would the defender be a lot better off road than the g wagen as the defender has more suspension travel???

Defender is better. In some situations like on rocks then a g would be better because of the lockers, but in the mud they are to heavy. Look how the g was spining in the mud, and the defender when through ok
exactly. the G is better because it has lockers, but, at least in portugal, it costs 3 times the price of a defender, and if you buy a defender and install arb or some other diff locker you'll have a better 4x4 than the G and costs way less. even with suspension and transmissions upgrades fitted in the defender. not to mention that the parts for the defender are a LOT cheaper than the parts for the mercedes.
g is better no question,i drove both and i loved g.i would buy one if i don't have a car.

well if you have money to buy g-wagen you may have money to give your grandma some balls eheheh
defender+lockers+strong halfshats is more affordable then g wagen and better off road

exactly. the G is better because it has lockers, but, at least in portugal, it costs 3 times the price of a defender, and if you buy a defender and install arb or some other diff locker you'll have a better 4x4 than the G and costs way less. even with suspension and transmissions upgrades fitted in the defender. not to mention that the parts for the defender are a LOT cheaper than the parts for the mercedes.
