Funnily enough, something like this sort of could have happened IF Star Wars had flopped as a movie. Lucas would then have chopped it up and made SW into a kids Saturday morning action show....which would have become a cult classic....and then remade into a feature film!

Actually, from what I have read, this parody is not too far from what could have happened. Apparantly Lucas was toying with the idea chop Star Wars into segments to become a Saturday morning series such as Flash Gordon or Batman had it not worked out as a movie. I guess we'd have had Star Wars remakes by now had this been carried out!
