It doesn't really matter whether it's tax cuts or increased spending. Economically they both have the same effect, which is little. The reality though is that if we didn't pass any stimulus at all, either Bush or Obama's, we'd be in the same spot today because the real work is done by the Fed., not the other 3 branches gov.

I say we live in a technocracy, because the principal body of economic control (Federal Reserve) is run by economists who derive their power from being the only ones who have the knowledge and technical capacity to understand and run the system. Anyone who doesn't understand Monetary theory (including most presidents) is incapable of understanding in a fundamental way how the economy actually works. This leaves the president and the Congress to a large degree at the mercy of the Federal Reserve.

We don't have free market capitalism in the US or in Europe, we have a Monetarist Central Bank run economy. This is effectively a Technocracy, whereby the real seat of economic power in the US is the Federal Reserve, not the Executive branch. In short the development of Monetary Theory has allowed central bankers to control the economies of the world to a degree unprecedented in history. The current crisis is not the failure of capitalism, but the first stage of collapse of the Monetary economy.
Unlike the American people, many of whom to this day still think there's a connection between Al Qaeda and Hussein, the Iraqi people know the US had no legitimate reason for invasion (at least none that any Pres. Admin have been honest about) and can remember what happened more than 6 years ago. They RATIONALLY have no trust in the US gov. and while happy about no longer living under Saddam resent our occupation and want us to leave immediately.
Cheney & Rumsfeld assumed that the Iraqi people were ignorant like Americans and couldn't remember anything that happened over 6 years ago and so wouldn't remember all the US policy reversals and broken promises. Hence, we only needed 50,000 troops to maintain order. However, Iraqis actually COULD remember things that happened in the past and so just stayed home to protect their families while looters ran rampant. Maybe have family killed and living under a dictatorship will do that, who knows?
Then in 2003 the Bush admin, finally decided that the 9/11 attacks had provided enough cover for them to justify invading Iraq. That Bush was looking for an excuse to invade Iraq was VERY obvious to anyone paying attention BEFORE 9/11 as shown by the dramatic increase of air strikes the week he joined office among other things, but the Bush admin rightly assumed the American people were idiots who don't pay attention and just watch reality TV and football all day, so they bought the all the BS.
After that, Clinton made it a policy to bomb Iraq every week or so. Of course, this resulted in many innocent Iraqi dying from US air strikes from 1994 to 2002 (Not to be outdone W. Bush not only continued Clinton's policy of bombing Iraq weekly, but actually doubled the weekly airstrikes until we finally invaded again.) Of course we prevented private charities from giving medical aid to the Iraqis dying from our air strikes, lest anyone "help the enemy."

After we sold weapons to Iraq, Hussein invaded Kuwait and just like everywhere else in the world, we broke our commitments on a dime and invaded Iraq. Then H.W. Bush promised Shia rebels we would support them in rebellion against Saddam. But Cheney said that would "make the region unstable." So the Shia rose up expecting our help, we left them to burn in the desert and Saddam promptly slaughtered them; probably with weapons we sold him.

In fact, Chairman Bernanke had publicly said that he thinks the Obama stimulus was worthless and ineffectual and Ben is clearly correct. He didn't say it in a way that the media, the masses, or the politicians could understand though. He outlined what the textbook ideal stimulus should be before Obama's passed, but the actual stimulus had little in common. After it did Bernanke said nothing, and no one but us economists were the wiser, which was expected. Greenspan did the same.

It doesn't really matter whether it's tax cuts or increased spending. Economically they both have the same effect, which is little. Neither the media nor most politicians understand this, and most wrongly credit or blame the current state of the economy on whatever fiscal stimulus did or didn't pass. The reality though is that if we didn't pass any stimulus at all, either Bush or Obama's, we'd be in the same spot today because the real work is done by the Fed., not the other 3 branches gov.

The illusion of relevancy is maintained by fiscal economic policy. Legislators and the president will debate over what stimulus is necessary, sometimes the debate gets heated. Republicans will push for tax cuts; Democrats increased spending. I always laugh to myself about this because I know, as anyone trained to be an economist does, that fiscal policy has long been known to be inconsequential when compared to monetary policy, at least in the US.

I say we live in a technocracy, because the principal body of economic control (Federal Reserve) is run by economists who derive their power from being the only ones who have the knowledge and technical capacity to understand and run the system. Anyone who doesn't understand Monetary theory (including most presidents) is incapable of understanding in a fundamental way how the economy actually works. This leaves the president and the Congress to a large degree at the mercy of the Federal Reserve.

Cheney & Rumsfeld assumed that the Iraqi people were ignorant like Americans and couldn't remember anything that happened over 6 years ago and so wouldn't remember all the US policy reversals and broken promises. Hence, we only needed 50,000 troops to maintain order. However, Iraqis actually COULD remember things that happened in the past and so just stayed home to protect their families while looters ran rampant. After that, Clinton made it a policy to bomb Iraq every week or so. Of course, this resulted in many innocent Iraqi dying from US air strikes from 1994 to 2002 (Not to be outdone W. Of course we prevented private charities from giving medical aid to the Iraqis dying from our air strikes, lest anyone "help the enemy."

The Constitution, specifically the 1st 10 Amendments are protections of individual rights from the government.
However the 10th Amendment gives all rights not enumerated in the Constitution to the states.
Just by the definition of what a confederation is, the Condeferates could not possibly have hated states rights. The South tried to exercize states rights to secede from the Union.

These town hall meetings are a joke. It is just an opportunity for a bunch of loud mouth right wing radicals to express themselves and grandstand. These meetings don't represent the population of the town or city. The politicians are stupid for having them. The meetings suppose to be for communication and asking meaningful questions. The citizens of the township are never heard from and it reminds me of fans yelling at a event like a wrestling or boxing match.
