I'm sure I remember seeing an extended version of this where there was a very sad looking Christmas tree in the background and and the woman was explaining how since the accident last CVhristmas she had had to give up her job to care for him and since he obvioulsy couldn't earn anymore things would be tight this year and she wouldn't be able to get much of a present for the teenage son, seen on the sofa, all in all not much of a Christmas.
Adverts that show the dangers and consequences of drinking driving these days are not powerful at all, i remember this advert and the effect that it had on me, if they re-showed THIS advert drink driving incidents would reduce dramatically. Bring back the hard hitting adverts thats what i say
This is one of the most powerful anti-drinking and driving ads I've ever seen.
The close-up shot of his eyes almost makes it seem like, despite the obvious damage to his 'Dave' is aware of what's happened to him & how he used to be.
The guys saying "just one more" implies that Dave already had at least one drink. So there's a good chance that even if he did get half, he could still end up in the same condition. If he knew he was going to be driving, he should've skipped the bar, period. I guess they assumed we're smart enough to figure that out.
This is actually an advertisement for Weetabix

I wouldn't worry to much about this man. he is an actor called daniel ryan. and is just doing a brutal advert as a brain injured and parelised man

He wasn't real, it was an actor called Daniel Ryan playing a fictional character. Just found that out.

Cool, thanks for the info :) How on earth did he get his eyes like that though!

I remember this ad - about 1995 was it?
Not sure if it was a real life person or just an actor.
MidlandNinja 4 years ago
1995 is a damn good guess. I'm not completely sure but it sounds about right. No idea if Dave really is disabled or not.
wuzzlevideos 4 years ago
Must have been 1995, it's on one of the commercial breaks from then that I did a Hard Sell of.

Maybe he's like Andy Pipkin. He was like that to his mother the whole time, but then goes out and gets pissed. No, no...
LoafOfPint 4 years ago
To continue the 'Pipkin Theory', notice that someone calls him 'mate', but it clearly sounds like 'Matt'. Matt Lucas, anyone?
Certainly has more weight to it than the Benoit 'conspiracy' theories.
