The thing that kills me about the entire Santa Clause lie, is that we tell young kids "dont lie, dont lie, be honest, honesty builds trust, its never

ok to lie." Then at some point around 8 or 9 years old they find out "yeah, the santa clause thing is a big lie." BUT WASNT IT A FUN LIE?!" Just a bad idea that should be retired if you ask me. The gifts are comin from your parents. Is that such a horrible concept? Anyway.....

I sympathize with you completely, but I suggest that myths and lies are not the same thing. Myths make the world go round. They exist because we say they do. If there were no myths, then we'd have no countries, no money, no days of the week, nor any of the other made up things that we order our lives around.

I also however, beleive that humans are in dire need of a new way of thinking, unlike anything thats been up til now, and it shouldnt include any form of deception, even in its most innocent form. Anyway, just saying, Im not just some miserable scrooge. Exact opposite actually.

While I'm cautiously optimistic about progress, I'm not sure that a whole new way of thinking is really an option. Every time someone comes up with a "new" way, antecedents seem to pop up hundreds or thousands of years before. I'm not sure that deception is really the right way to describe a myth either. If nothing else, myths help to remind us that essentially all our understanding is predicated on constructs that function on a symbolic level. Otherwise, all you're left with is quantum.

I just dont think very highly of some of the constructs that have been built into man kind. 2 quotes by MLK that I feel speak to the subject....1) "I believe that unarmed truth and unconditional love will have the final word in reality. Well, that's a different argument altogether. It's probably true that the Santa myth has come to represent more that is negative than positive. If you don't like the myth, then there's no reason to spread it.
