  • i wishd id had some day 7 bernese moutain dogs and 2 puppies and one 7.5 half month bernese

  • I adore these dogs, but not sure I could live with the drooling.

  • @nickeroo Bernese are not drooling.

  • Bernese... 15 years? Really?

  • unsere ist die aller süßeste! :)

  • I want a Burmese Mountain Border Collie cross mix as the combination is beautiful and hopefully the collie adds some longevity to this gorgeous dog.

  • @CanadianPerspective They're from Switzerland, not Burma.

  • I saw one laying down outside a shop yesterday with his owner. He took up half the pavement! seriously, he was huge. And he had a bib around his neck that said 'friendly giant'. cutest thing ever!

  • I dogsit for a 15 year old Bernese. He's sooo sweet and never barks.

  • Good Video! Lovely Breed! Check out our girl, Bella, if you get a chance! Thanks! (Puppies soon!)

  • i have 2 bernese mountain dogs and 1 australian shepherd

  • Energetic??? my dog keeps sleeping, lol!

  • I have a bernese - she needs bathing about 1 once a month, not once or twice a year...she can become quite smelly otherwise. When she shed recently she required daily brushing - we've never seen so much loose fur around the house! She's got a fantastic nature, so friendly.

  • @squibby74 haha i was thinking the same thing if i dont brush my girl once a day my house is full of berenese hair =/ lol fantastic breed very beautiful

  • Pause at :36

  • My friend and I saw a Burmese Mountain Dog with blue eyes yesterday. Is this unusual?

  • @dharmaseed

yes very! happens once in a blue moon...mine has alittle blue in one of his eyes! but still is a purebred ckc reg bernese mt dog

  • proste krasne psi

  • Did she say they only need to be bathed once or twice a year? They don't get stinky? My dream dog!

  • @falkoche lol hate to say it but thats if your lucky......i have 2 of em and they have to be bathed at least 1 every 2 months....they really start to smell after that lol

  • yah knocks down my little sister all the time

  • Why will people not admit the extent to which cancer occurs within this breed, particularly in the uk. Advertise this breed responsibly

  • I currently have 2 they are Great dogs

  • I love my berny <3

  • family dog? u are a fuckin idiot

  • @Gaaameness

bernese have the best temperament, like a lab or a newfoundland...cunt

  • @JERHxART

ur swiss hubby is not the smartest! do canadians eat labradors?....

  • Comment removed

  • @JERHxART

you are comical Read and learn:

a)The production of food from dog meat for commercial purposes is illegal in Switzerland

b)In swiss cultural they cured dog meat into jerky & sausagesm(consumed dog meet, like you said), and used lard for medicinal purposes

c)(the part where u are very wrong)they would never consume pure bred bernese mt dogs since it is their national dog. they used mutts and randoms. so dont be a parrot and repeat what ur idiot "hubby" says smart ass. fuse slut

  • @amirjon Only sometimes... not as much as newfoundlands anyways... Thats nasty even thinking about eating a dog. People that eat them are truly troubled.

  • thanks

  • yes. no less than that for a 3 month old purebred berner.

  • Then you should look harder

  • i have two bereneses, mother and daughter, and the mother didn't bark at all until she was 7, when she had Molly, our other berenese. they're sjust like a big lap dog, they're awsome!

  • they dont live too long, only shortcoming

  • @yogachix

berners have many health problems, you must get these dogs from very very reputable breeders, a $300 dog will not last u long, and will cost u 100x more due to vet bills, save up, find an amazing breeder (belgium, holland, swiss the best breeders) and buy a companion that will last u years

  • ok i have wanted a bernese mountain dog since i could say bernese mountain dog!! but when i am older i am so getting one! our friend has 2 and i just love them!! right now we have an english cocker spaniel and a rottweiler! they r awesome! but i just LOVE dogs and couldnt live without having one!

  • my berner is so obnoxious. ive never owned a dog as annoying as him

  • maybe you've done something wrong ;)

  • it's just you man. i've got one of the calmest berners which it is supposed to be. you did something wrong

  • yeah got him from a puppy mill..we think hes got down syndrome

  • That sounds more logical. I can't see anyone, man or dog, getting away with only bathing annually.

  • You only have to bathe them annually? Nice!

  • @OmegaWolf747

that is bullshit, u want a clean berner, shiny, that will get u so much attention, once a month, they do tend to smell a lot...check out my berner vids, hes 8months, i wash him once a month, too also get him used to teh water...he has amazing marikings

  • Oh, but I'm not saying she doesn't know much about the breed, apparently just not so much about the breed's history. Or this video was very badly edited, but there are some things she says that aren't true.

But I'm sure she knows how to take care of a berner :)

  • Cane meraviglioso !!!!

  • That is funny that some of y'all don't think Kim knows much about berners! Her dog TY won Best of Breed at Westminster this year. I think she knows a little....

  • Absolutely! My Berner's dad (champion from Australia) was entrusted to Kim' s care for the time he was in Canada. She knows the breed!

  • You have a Denzel puppy? He's a fabulous dog.

  • Yes, we do, from the first litter born in Canada. Only three girls and we were lucky enough to adopt one. She's the best!

  • whoah, she apparently doesn't know so much about the breed's history...they were farmerdogs and were bred for guarding(! which they're good at too without to much barking :) ), herding, protecting and lots of other things. They just happen to be a good familydog.

Besides a berner that gets 10 is already really old, the average is between 6-8years. Older than 10 years is more like an exception, MrMitchSmith should be grateful. We just had to put one of ours down 2 weeks ago, she was 7.5 years.

  • i have 3 bernese i love them so much

  • do you have anymore maby you dont want or know were I can get one,,, I really want one , but there hard to find for free or for a small price ,, I live in texas and willing to drive for it thanks

  • there are a few places in northern california if you want to drive that far. that's where i got mine. hope you get one!

  • Always check out Animal rescue places as you can get any sort of dog imaginable there.

  • I really want one of these! But the others in my house all object =[ Such a shame they are beautiful animals

  • that's too bad. maybe do some research on them and find all the pros and cons. i'm sure the pros will outnumber the cons and then you can persuade your family to get one.

  • is 11 years old good for a bernese cos thats what mine is

  • Yes, that is quite old usually they get 8-10.

  • We have a berner and it is the best dog I've ever had...I wouldn't trade him for the world

  • Our Bernese is crossed with a Husky..and has one blue eye..an amazing companion....

  • They are the sweetest, most beautiful dogs there are, but they she said they shed twice a year or once a year. Well, in my experience they shed constantly and extremely! Still, they are amazing.

  • ya i dont think she knows wut shes talking about.... and plus u should brush them every year! and i think they are very smart and not slow at all...or atleast mine isnt...BUT however some bernese have a tendency of being shy! and who on earth washes their dog once a year??? mines bathed every month or two times a month...n e ways gooday

  • I have one thats crossed with a rottie

    Its so fast

can keep up with me when im flat out on a bike

  • really. i have a purebred that can keep up with me on a bike and i think of myself of a fast biker

  • I have a Berner as well, and yeah they are cute and cuddly, but people do your homework. These dogs have a lot of health problems and can be very expensive. They are the greatest family dogs ever, and are also known for their mischevious ways. My Berner is a rescue dog who came from someone who thought what a cute and cuddly dog he was, and then couldn't handle him. Know what you are getting in to before you get one.

  • @deeebird how bad are the health problems? How is your BMD doing?

  • @trudal987 my berner is quite well. He is 5 1/2 years old and is on thyroid medication. Berners are prone to hip displaysia and cancer. They typically have a lifespan of 5-7 years, although some can live 12-13 years. The form of cancer they are prone to is very aggressive and can take them in a month or two. With food and pet insurance my BMD costs about $200/month not including grooming or incidental vet visits.

  • @deeebird Thats the only reason i wouldn't want one of these guys. They get torn away from you to soon.

  • @trudal987 Smitty is my first Berner so I'll have to see how I feel after he goes. I really like the breed and Smitty is an amazing dog, but if he dies young I might change my tune. Its one thing to have a dog die when they are old and have already had a good life. Its something totally different when they die early while still behaving like a puppy. At 5 1/2 Smitty is still so young at heart, and if he went now, I would be devastated. Thats the thing about Berners, they'll break your heart

  • @deeebird

personally, 5 1/2 years with a berner than 20yrs with any other dog! but thats just me, it is so devastating, mine is 16months old...gotta give them that raw diet and never kibble...

  • i want one so bad

  • i've got one bernese.

  • What a wonderful family dog! I love goldens, but these look like really huggable dogs. I want 6 of them! Thanks for the fun and informative video.

  • i have a golden hes awesome, check out his videos on my profile. bernese are great dogs too when iwas a kid my uncle had one and he was cool. scary though at that age and very bad shedders although six of them is just irresponsibile and very expensive .

  • six!?!?!?!?!?! that's just crazy!

  • @3snowyman

no...good breeders that breed longevity, good care of ur dog 10+yrs

  • first comment yay!

i have two bernese mountain dogs

one of them might be pregent im so exited!

  • I own a blind dog of these... Stevie is so cute!

  • I have a bernese mountain dog named Lola !! She actually the cutest , funnest and most cuddly dog i hav ever had !

  • mines called paddington

  • i have one!!!!!!! the smartest, cutest dog in the world!!!

  • @ivantnt26 Me too! Cutest ever! Big heart, big soul.

  • I just got a Bernese and I made a video. They are great family pets.

  • are berners big droolers??

  • compared to other similar large breeds like st bernards and new foundlands, suprisingly not. As much as any other dog, like a labrador etc

  • no not much

  • Not really

  • no they dont drool but shed.

  • @kr1spy

bernese are not droolers, st. bernads, newfs are droolers. bernese do not drool, but make up for it with their shedding :)) check out my berner 8month pup he is very handsom

  • I just got a Bernese puppy and called her Maggie. She is so sweet and very playful! People stop me on the street and just go nuts over her and she laps up the attention. She's truly one of a kind!

  • i have a lab/presa canario and hes exactly like that lol but sometimes if someone doesnt give him the attention he needs he goes searching for it and the next person on the street he see´s he wil run straight over to them and lick em to death :L

  • I was brought up with Berneses....wonderful dog in every way; can't fault them, love children....the only mild downside is hip problems and if they accidentally run into you you'll be knocked down... I'm 280 lbs and Freya could take me down. Best pet you could have.

  • To all of you that have a shedding problem: Try giving your dog a fish oil capsule once aday. You can buy them at Costco or Sams for minimum cost. After a month you should see an improvement. I've had Berners for 20 years and always have given them fish oil. Good luck

  • My guy is 4 and sheds constantly and I mean sheds!!I don't even put the hoover away. He is always dirty but he is also my best friend and very loyal. Everything good about the breed is true but alot of work

  • My Bernese died two weeks, she was almost 11 (so old for the breed). If you are thinking getting a bernese but are unsure let me just say....get one!!! Cassie (my dog) was a joy in my life and even though i feel loss now and pain i'll look back at her with nothing but a smile. They are a wonderful breed and you can trust them with anything. When i eventually have a family of my own you can be sure there will be a bernese there every step of the way.

  • F10ert ~~ we will see Cassie at the Bridge I'm sure. My boy Gatsby will be with her right now. It's been five years and I still miss him deeply. You were fortunate, 11yo is great for these wonderful companions. Despite what this woman is saying in the video, their average age is 7 years.

When circumstances permit be sure and get another (or two.) God bless.

  • You enjoyed her company for 11 nice years. The loss of a dog is always hard to take, but it always worths the trouble. I also have a beautiful berner , great breed, so nice with kids and everyone. Ánimo!! :)

  • if you think these are beasts look at newfoundland dogs, those are immense! but cool =P

  • i know a bernese and a siberian who are the best of friends.

  • these dogs are beasts!

  • my bernise just had 4 cute puppies and her husband is HUGE

  • hahahaha thats crap i have a bernies and he hates unwanted visitors hes a nutter

  • Every day mine dog is brushed -we wait until the mud etc is dry as most of it falls as dust all over the floor then a good groom and he is as good as new. Bath often as they like a good roll around. My dog is stll quite young (1 year) so he still has "crimped" locks around his ears and back. these gentle giants do like giving you a bat with the paw for attention and love sitting on your feet then having a good lean. Both my neighbours have berners so he is lucky enough to run around with 6 more

  • This woman is a prat, I have a Bernese, they shed loads. My floors are constantly covered in "drifts of fur" despite constant hoovering. They are fantastic dogs, super with children. The one she is showing seems to be a little "trimmed". I would never consider cutting all the locks of my Berners ears, or his tail thats what makes them look so good. I feel that if she is showing them she should read a bit more about the breed.

  • I soooo agree! mine sheds like crazy all year around!

  • Nice I think my family is getting one

  • Hi! Sorry if my Emglish is not good. I have some doubts. I am intrested to get a coumple of berneses for a farm. I live in Ecuador and my farm is near the mountain (Andes). My cuestions are if this dog support well cold, if they are good guards (no if they attac but if they bark to extrangers) and also if they are good for shepard labor. Thanks for your answers cause i have cows and sheeps.

  • yah they like cold and they are good guard dogs they bark a lot though.. they are cute though too

  • The best dogs in the world. Mine is called Duke and he kicks ass.

  • The family I babysit for has a border collie and is on a waiting list for a Berner pup haha. It's funny that they're almost polar opposites. Gorgeous dogs, though!

  • Bath once or twice a year!!?? i have to brush my bernise cross with golden retriver once a week and he still gets VERY filthy

  • brush once a week!!! i have to brush my bernese 5 times a week at least, and he is bathed once every 2 weeks or so coz he gets filthy.

  • What a load of bollox! 10 to 15 years? She's living in cloud cuckoo-land!

  • They used to live as long as 10 to 15, recently due to cancer their average life spam got cut down to 7 to 8 years, 12 years at the most, though some do live longer.

  • I think the woman speaking in this video is gorgeous!

  • It's my favorite dig but my sisters is the ''faster'' Border Collie.

  • As a breeder and show handler of the breed, I would think she would know more. I have a Berner and he sheds a ton and its more than once a year. Plus, I have not heard of their average lifespan being 10-15 years! If you look anywhere, it says usually 7-9. The oldest I have heard is 13. I would like to know who has a Berner that is 15! Wow, not to impressed Kim. :(

  • Bernese should live to around 10/12 - but no longer do. They die average age 7 of cancer. This is because they are bred for looks regardless of health considerations.

Our wonderful boy Chewie had already had cancer and now at 8 has it again. We take every day as it comes and are grateful for every day this huge kindly presence is still with us.

I've never seen another dog with their gentle giant temprament. They deserve those years back...

  • Nice video, but very inaccurate information.

"They live to 10 and sometimes 15"??? The average lifespan for this breed is 7.5 years.

They shed LOTS and all year long.

They are a working breed dog and need a job to do. Many are not content to hang out all day long and do nothing.

They are not Border Collies, but they are smart and can excel at obedience, draft work, tracking and agility.

They are more than just a pretty face, please do your homework on this breed before buying.

  • WANT

  • My favorite breed. I am owned by one. ;)

  • I have my second one he is 2 years old and they are the most awesome breed. They love everyone and make a great family dog for people who have alot of visitors, there is no reason to fear them with strangers and children

  • "they're bred for carting to pull milk to the market..."

    random.

  • lol

  • Then give it to someone who loves them and shut up about it.

  • i just got my second one, he is seven months old and the cutest thing, what is she talking about 15 years mine only lived till 7 and my other one died of cancer at 4

  • I almost wanted one. I think I'll get a Newfoundland instead.

  • im so getting one of those i LOVE them and they're perfect family dogs~! :)
